The bookshelf which housed SCP-3352 prior to containment.

Item #: SCP-3352

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3352 is to be contained at Lunar Area-32 within a polyurethane sealed glass display case inside of containment room 984. A lever operated book lock apparatus is to be used for the purpose of fastening SCP-3352 into a fixed position within the low gravity lunar environment at all times unless in use. There is to be at least one (1) color-sensitive camera aimed at SCP-3352 at all times set to alert Foundation personnel should it detect an orange glow emanating from SCP-3352. Access to SCP-3352 is restricted to all Foundation personnel with security clearance level 2 or lower unless given written permission from security clearance level 3 or higher personnel or in the event of a review of an instance of SCP-3352-A which affected them.

Due to the potential of cognitohazardous effects from SCP-3352, any Foundation personnel affected by its anomalous properties during an instance of SCP-3352-A will be taken to medical facility █████ █████ and returned to duty following a psychiatric evaluation.

Should SCP-3352 be in the process of an instance of SCP-3352-1, all C-Class and higher personnel will be restricted from entering a proximity within 15 meters of SCP-3352 with the usage of force if necessary. Distributed Task Force Sigma-6 (“Puddlejumpers”) will be dispatched and divided into two teams in order to locate, detain, and relocate those affected by SCP-3352-A to medical facility █████ █████ as well as secure the area leading to SCP-3352’s containment facility. Any Foundation personnel of security clearance level 2 and above affected by SCP-3352-1 will be informed of the nature of the conversation they had prior. Should any Foundation personnel affected by SCP-3352-1 be of security clearance level 4 and above, a personnel member with security clearance level 4 will be required to inform them of the contents of their conversation.

Due to the mind-affecting properties originating from prolonged exposure to SCP-3352 (SEE EXPERIMENT 3352-Alpha), all staff coming into direct contact with SCP-3352 in any form will be required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before returning to usual duties.

Description: SCP-3352 is a leather hardcover book approximately 9 by 12 inches (22.86 by 30.48 cm) in size in the style of a mid-1800’s Victorian era tome with the title “Conversations in Literature” spelled out in bold text on the center of its front cover. SCP-3352 contains approximately four hundred ninety-seven (497) pages referred to as SCP-3352-2. Page one (1) of SCP-3352 is reserved as a dedication page stating the following:

For Baxter Smith and all those who suffered at the hands of Mister [ILLEGIBLE].

All attempts to locate information regarding "Baxter Smith" have been inconclusive.

SCP-3352’s anomalous properties physically manifest in the form of pages filled with conversations that are taken from active discussions had at any location within the immediate gravitational field of whatever cosmic body SCP-3352 is currently bound by. Any event of SCP-3352 in the process of filling its pages with the contents of a conversation which has concluded is referred to as an instance of SCP-3352-1.

SCP-3352-1 is an anomalous event wherein no more than two (2) instances of SCP-3352-A and a potentially varying number of instances of SCP-3352-B will take place. Some notable changes in SCP-3352’s properties during an instance of SCP-3352-1 are an orange glow approximately fifty-five (55) lumens in intensity and a constant hissing noise at a volume of exactly twenty (20) dB not unlike the sound given off by a leaking gas pipe. There is no apparent pattern to instances of SCP-3352-1, however, no instances have been observed to take place within six (6) months of each other.

SCP-3352-A refers to any conversation affected during an instance of SCP-3352-1. SCP-3352-1 appears to exhibit a preference for discussions based around literature-related topics. Instances of SCP-3352-A are detectable only after the conversation affected has concluded.

SCP-3352-B is the result of any attempt to read SCP-3352 during an SCP-3352-1 instance. Anyone attempting to do so expires instantaneously. Analysis conducted during autopsies reveals that the brains of those who expire as a result of this suffered severe hemorrhaging due to the sudden disappearance of the Broca area as well as the angular gyrus. It is currently unknown as to where these areas of the brain disappear to.

Discovery: SCP-3352 was located at the Brotherton Library in Leeds, England on 4/9/2012 after SCP field agents █████████ █████████ and ██████ “Shroud” ███████ were alerted to a potentially anomalous event at ████████ ████████ at 7:30PM approximately eight hundred meters away from Brotherton Library in which two adolescent males began convulsing simultaneously immediately after a conversation they had been having concluded. It is at this same time that an instance of SCP-3352-1 initiated which was noticed by a library staff member who then attempted to open SCP-3352, resulting in the first recorded instance of SCP-3352-B. Following this, Mobile Task Force Pi-1 (“City Slickers”) mobilized and captured SCP-3352 for containment purposes and potential witnesses to the anomalous events were administered doses of a Class A amnestic as necessary. Both individuals involved in this specific instance of SCP-3352-A were given necessary medical treatment and recovered fully, and they were each provided with Cover Story-97 “Gas leak Induced Hallucination”. The body of the deceased library staff member was destroyed and ███ family was informed that ███ had gone missing. A cold investigation was launched and closed after approximately two years.

Addendum.1: SCP-3352 is thought to have originated from ██████ & █████’s, a textile factory which used to be located in Lancashire, England until it ceased operations in ████. This particular factory is notable due to its extensive use of child labor in manufacturing operations as well as the particularly harsh treatment of said child workers. After interview 3352-Rho-██████, it has been determined that there may be some connection between SCP-3352 and the former child workers of ██████ & █████’s. An investigation into the full inventorial records of the former facility yielded no information about SCP-3352.

Addendum.2: Due to the outcome of Interview 3352-Rho-██████, all experiments involving SCP-3352 must be conducted with level one (1) cognitohazardous failsafes in effect for their entire duration unless otherwise specified. Subjects within close proximity of SCP-3352 for timespans exceeding fifty (50) hours begin to experience hallucinations in the form of the sounds of factory machinery as well as intense heat (SEE EXPERIMENT LOG FOR HOUR 50 OF 3352-Alpha). Subjects also report unexplainable feelings of yearning desire. Subjects within close proximity of SCP-3352 for timespans exceeding one hundred (100) hours begin to exhibit signs of paranoia. Further investigation reveals in these subjects an intense fear of not receiving necessary sustenance as well as of physical harm from Foundation personnel (SEE EXPERIMENT LOG FOR HOUR 100 OF 3352-Alpha).
