SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:* SCP-XXX is to remain turned on at all times. It is to be attached to the special base contained within it's containment area and connected to a generator onsite. Foundation staff are to monitor, via LDR Sensors located in the room, SCP-XXX for any instance in which it begins to dip beneath 1850k in color temperature. Should this occur Foundation staff monitoring SCP-XXX should notify site director Dr. Tru for authorization to replace SCP-XXX. SCP-XXX is responsible for the comfort AND containment of SCP-XXX-1 and should not be removed at any time unless authorized by Dr. Tru.
SCP-XXX and SCP-XXX-1 are to be housed in a 5 meter by 5 meter containment chamber located at site-21. The room should be furnished with the following items. A twin sized bed with a race car frame, a teddy bear, dresser, and a drawing table. SCP-XXX should be placed in the center of the field while all other items are to be placed outside of the radius of SCP-XXX's light.
The hallway leading up to SCP-XXX's containment chamber should be equipped with LDR sensors as well as Flood Lights spaced two meters of apart facing the door. In the event of a breach the flood lights can be used as a temporary deterrent until the arrival of MTF-Pi 472, Monsters under the Bed, arrive to contain SCP-XXX-1 using specially outfitted flashlights equipped with SCP-XXX
Under no circumstances should any other form of bulb be placed in SCP-XXX's base. Any violation of this protocol will lead to immediate termination and reassignment to lesser detail.
** Directors Note:** Use of MTF Pi 472 should be a last resort. The bulbs burn out terribly quick when outfitted into anything else and we do not have many left.
Description: SCP-XXX is a Edison Light bulb that dates back to 1881. While the light bulb has no anomalous properties it can last up to a year when fitted with a specialized base that was found along with the crate containing 25 other bulbs. Any other bulb fitted into SCP-XXX's specialized base will not only burn out immediately but has been shown to send SCP-XXX-1 in it's advanced stage. The reasons for this are unknown and no testing as to the reason is to be done per the orders of the site director.
SCP-XXX-1 is a 10 year old boy that appears to be made out of darkness. He gives off no heat, does not need to eat, and appears healthy. Blood work and DNA testing show the results typical for a boy of his age. X-rays reveal a skeletal structure that is in light with other 10 year olds. While SCP-XXX-1 is capable of interacting with other non-living items he is unable to interact with living organisms. Any organism touching SCP-XXX-1 begins to feel an immediate rush of adrenaline often associated with the fight or flight mechanic. Tests on those who have touched SCP-XXX-1 show elevated levels of glutamate, cortisol, and adrenaline often associated with severe panic or fear.
It is speculated, based on information found in the Edison bundle, that the boy may be suffering from a form of Photodermatitis. Testing, however, has been halted on this theory due to the violent reactions SCP-XXX-1's condition has had towards any light not given off by SCP-XXX.
Note from Site Director Tru: All Foundation staff are encouraged to interact with and play with SCP-XXX-1. His favorite game is peek-a-boo. -Dr.Tru
Interview
Interviewed: SCP-XXX-1, Oliver
Interviewer: Dr. Tru
<Begin Log>
Dr.Tru: Good morning Oliver. How are you today?
Oliver: I'm good.
Dr.Tru: I hope you like your room, I made sure they got it exactly right for you.
Oliver: I do. Can we play peak-a-boo again. I really like that game.
Dr.Tru: Can I ask you a few questions first. I want to help you but I need to know what happened to you.
Oliver: <sighing> Ok.
Dr.Tru: Do you remember what happened to make you like this?
Oliver: Yea.
Dr.Tru: Can you please tell me.
Oliver: Papa took me to see one of Mr. Tesla's experiments. It was super cool, he said with it that people who get light for free, forever! I always liked stuff like that. When Mr. Tesla turned it on I remember this huge flash of light, and lighting it was cool!
Dr.Tru: That does sound cool.
Oliver: Uh huh. I got to close, Papa warned me not too, and I got shocked. It hurt a whole bunch but I felt okay. It wasn't until I started getting super scared that Papa thought something was wrong.
Dr.Tru: What do you mean?
Oliver: Well, Papa would blow out the candle and I would start getting worried, I used to not get scared of the dark, I wanted to be strong by Papa, but I'd see things. Hear things, like creepy growls and stuff. One night I couldn't see anymore. Papa helped though. Then he took me to Mr. Tesla.
Dr.Tru: Oh?
Oliver: Yep. Dr. Tesla said he'd fix me and Papa left me with him. From there he tried, he really did Dr. Tru, but he had to reach out to someone else. Then I went and lived with him and eventually he gave me my favorite night light and everything was better!
Dr.Tru: Thank you for that Oliver.
Oliver: Your welcome! Can we play now?
Dr.Tru: Of course Oliver.

Addendum: Below are letters that were found when a member of foundation staff dropped the crate carrying the Edison Bulbs. Fortunately none were broken but the crack did reveal a small wrapped bundles containing the items below.
- Three notes written between inventors Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison
- A somewhat tattered stuffed bear that SCP-XXX-1 was excited to have back
- A schematic for the base of SCP-XXX drawn by an unknown hand.
- A page from a log written by Edison
Thomas,
There has been an accident with my ongoing experiments into alternating current. During a demonstration meant to show the beauty of my work I have inadvertently brought harm onto a boy. He was brought to me weeks ago and despite my best efforts I have found no cure for his malady.
It is as if the light hates him. Any source of light brought before the boy is consumed by a darkness that goes beyond the fears our primitive ancestors had of the dark. It is the absence of light, the total and utter destruction of it. I have managed to stall the progress of the boys condition by degrees but, for the sake of the boy. I need your assistance. I have included the notes below of what I have discovered.
((unfortunately the paper appears to have suffered damage and the notes are missing))
Nikola,
Having reviewed what you have presented I am willing to offer my services. No boy should have to suffer from such malady. Bring him to Menlo Park and we will begin our work at once.
Log by Edison
January 12th
Through science and a fair bit of luck we have been able to slow the boys malady even further. It appears that the original light bulbs created by Swan and myself have a dulling effect on whatever is afflicting him. Despite the bulb being built to last several days they appear to be extinguishing in a matter of hours which leads to a darkness that I dare not seek to comprehend. I have heard the things that lurk in that darkness and I am reminded of the stories my father told me of men who traveled the dense jungles of Africa and the fear it brought to me as a child.
Nikola believes he may have a solution but he will not share it. He goes on about his desire to find a man who helped him once even as he struggles to build a better source of power for the base. Each step he takes brings him closer to success and, dare I say, madness. He mutters about distant worlds when he thinks I cannot hear him and I worry for his sanity.
February 15th
Nikola has done something that, by all rights, should not be possible. He has married the two currents into the base that we have utilized for the bulbs. This has extended the life of the bulb beyond a few hours into several days. It is not much, but it at least buys us time. I have ordered the factory to make me several hundred bulbs. While Nikola continues to work on perfecting the base I will at least provide the fuel to keep him safe.
For the sake of secrecy I have built a room hidden in the back of my laboratory to keep the boy comfortable. I have taken to teaching him, when time permits. When he first came to me he looked much like a normal boy but these days his skin as turn to ashen gray, like twilight, and he is cold to the touch.
March 20th
That damn fool Tesla. He did not tell me the boy had a father, he failed to mention that fact. What does he do when the father comes back. He tells the man his son is dead! Dead! What kind of crock is that. Does he realize what he has done? I could be ruined if this is ever linked back to me. I know the boy's safety is paramount but this is ridiculous. I will reach out to people I know in the local paper, I'll make sure the story doesn't get run, or if it is run that Telsa takes the full blame.
In the mean time the bulbs came, but the base has begun to fail again. I am not sure how much time we will have before the boys condition is beyond fixing. I can no longer touch him, my hands pass through his. He can, thankfully, interact with his favorite stuffed animal. It's a small miracle.
Nikola left last night. I will continue my work.
September 5th
I received a letter from Tesla today along with blueprints for a design that has no right to exist in this world but we are burning through bulbs faster than my factories can create them. The way this base marries the DC and AC current is unfathomable. No laws of electricity should allow for such a thing and yet with it I see the way forward. What price did Tesla have to pay to make this work?
The boy seems content to have the light and I have promised him a cure but I fear that it is beyond my knowledge. I spoke with a doctor I trust, one Jefferson Tru, to see if he had any ideas about the boys condition. He has theories and little else and I am afraid neither medicine, nor science is advanced enough to save this boys life.
Each day, I fear for the boys safety and my own. I will begin the construction of the base tonight. May God grant us this small victory.
Thomas,
Thank you for looking after the boy. I know that I left abruptly but I knew he was in good hands. It has taken me quite sometime to complete the works necessary to ensure the boys safety. Sadly, despite having the good fortune to run into a man who helped me with one of my works, I could not find a cure for the child. Together however, our great minds have created what will be the boys fail safe. I have included it here with this letter. The designs are perfect, you will find no flaw in them and with it the boy will have all the time he needs for you to cure him.
Tell Oliver I said goodbye. I have greater works I must now tend to and he is in good hands.
Dr. Tru with Dr.[redacted] assisting
Note: Test was carried out prior to the discovery of the Edison Bundle. A flashlight is placed in the containment room with SCP-XXX-1, cameras with night vision and LDR sensors are recording.
Research staff remove SCP-XXX from it's base and Research staff leaves the room. SCP-XXX-1 immediately begins to ask for the light back. Dr. Tru assures SCP-XXX-1 that the flashlight will keep him safe. SCP-XXX-1 remains on his bed and attempts to argue with the doctor who tries to reassure him.
Sensors in the room report light levels as low as 800k and cameras within the room switch over to night vision five minutes later. SCP-XXX-1 grows more distressed during this time. He begins to scream, and claims the monsters are coming. The room containing SCP-XXX-1 begins to darken rapidly and audio from the room begins to pick up what sounds like growls. SCP-XXX-1 can be heard screaming. The flashlight's light is immediately swallowed by darkness expanding from SCP-XXX-1
Dr. Tru orders and end to the experiment and a research staff manages to affix SCP-XXX into the base before it's containment chamber is completely consumed.
Addendum: We must come up with a way to contain SCP-XXX-1 should SCP-XXX fail. -Dr [redacted]
Test XXX 1.5
Dr.[Redacted] with Researcher [Redacted] assisting
Purpose: Determine what occurs when SCP-XXX-1 enters it's advanced stages. D-class personnel equipped with audio recording equipment as well as monitors designed to measure levels of cortisol, adrenaline and glutamate.
Foundation staff remove SCP-XXX from it's base and D-class personnel is told to enter the containment area. SCP-XXX-1 greats the D-Class and asks if they are bringing back the light. D-class responds to the negative. SCP-XXX-1 begins to grow agitated. He looks towards the camera and begs for the light back. Request denied. SCP-XXX-1 begins to cry and enters his first stage. D-Class personnel is visibly upset by the scene but is assured that it's perfectly normal and no harm will come to them.
D-Class personnel asks to leave the room. Request denied. Dr.[redacted] asks D-class what they are feeling at the moment. D-Class responds saying they feel afraid. Minor spikes in all three levels of chemicals are noted by they are in safe ranges. Ten minutes later SCP-XXX-1 enters it's Advanced stage.
Recording equipment picks up the sound of SCP-XXX-1 screaming and D-Class personnel immediately begins running. Transcription of Audio Log below
<Transcription of Audio Log>
D-Class: Come on man, get me our of here!
Doctor: You will be fine, nothing can harm you.
D-Class: Where's the [expletive] door. It was right here! Where is it! What are you doing to me?
Doctor: What do you mean? The door should be no more than a meter behind you.
D-class personnel can be heard breathing heavy and running.
D-Class: Don't lie to me [expletive] what did you do did you take away the door! Oh Christ what is that!
Doctor: what are you seeing?
D-Class Th..there's something under the bed man! It's..no…no.. MOM! MOM! MOM!
<End Transcription>
At this point D-Class subject begins wailing incoherently for his mother and chemical levels spike to unsafe levels. SCP-XXX-1's darkness also expands beyond the range of it's containment area triggering a breach. Testing is ended and MTF Pi - 472 engages and contains the breach. D-Class subject was found dead upon containment and autopsy reveals that their heart suffered catastrophic failure. SCP-XXX-1 apologized, stating "I didn't want the monsters to get him!"
Note from Site Director Tru: Dr.[redacted] you god damned idiot. This is a boy, not some play thing. I have sent a request to the O5 council to have you knocked down to nothing more than a janitor. How dare you endanger my staff with such an unauthorized experiment.
No further testing is to be done on SCP-XXX-1 without me present. We are trying to save this boy not kill people in the pursuit of some higher science!
Addendum: Due to Test XXX and the resultant breach that occurred SCP-XXX has been upgraded from Safe to Euclid.
Note found on the desk of Site Director Tru dated November 6, 20[redacted]
I am afraid that we are running out of time. We only have 2 light bulbs left and we are no closer to finding a cure for SCP-XXX-1's condition. If the Foundation cannot come up with a method to cure this innocent boy I may have to seek help outside of Foundation boundaries. I have always been loyal, I hope it does not come to that.
Notes: Data pulled from Former Site Director Dr. Tru's hard drive is compiled below.
Experiment 1: 5ml Cetirizine Hydrochloride
Result: No Effect
Notes: Perhaps uping the dosage would help.
Experiment 4: 15ml Fexofenadine
Result: No Effect
Notes: Standard medicines have no effect on the boy, not surprising. I have reached out to my superiors for requests to utilize other methods in an effort to heal the child.
Experiment 210: SCP-[Redacted]
Result: No effect
Notes: Oliver giggled but SCP-[redacted] was unable to interact with him. I had hoped it might provide some insight but the kit is useless.
Experiment 415: SCP-[redacted]
Result: Minor Improvement, regressed within hours
Notes: I gave Oliver one dose of SCP-[redacted] and for a brief moment his skin lightened. He said he enjoyed the sound of the ocean and we were able to play slap jacks. Unfortunately he regressed within two hours. I will not subject him to further doses.
Experiment 720: SCP-[redacted]
Results: No effect
Notes: Oliver said it tasted delicious and reminded him of his mama. I'm starting to reach for straws here and I know some other members are growing concerned with my requests. But I can't just let the boy succumb to his fate.
Experiment 985: SCP-[redacted]
Results: None
Notes: SCP-[redacted] expressed sorrow for Oliver's condition but stated he could not offer any help. Received a message from another site director today. They are worried about my continued requests. According to him it's outside of protocol. I know that but Protocol be damned this is a boys life we are talking about.
Experiment 1725: SCP-[redacted]
Results: Mild effect, but regression soon after.
Notes: Damn it. This was my last hope. I have worked with my fellow doctors and none of us can find a cure for Oliver's condition. While on the surface it appears to be an allergy it is clear that his Photodermatitis is anomalous in nature. What I don't know is if it actually is an allergy, or if this poor boy is the conduit to some….thing. I have no choice to but seek other avenues for help. I have reached out to Dr. [redacted] as she is sympathetic to Oliver's cause.
I know you will search my hard drive, I know that the Foundation will assume the worst but you must understand. I did this for him. Our duty is to Secure, Contain, and Protect. Protect. How can I let the boy succumb to this malady when I have the chance to save him. He is a child and even more so he is not a dangerous child. Not like the succubi, not like SCP-[redacted], or the results of SCP-[Redacted]; this is a damned child.
That bulb will last a year. I'll find him a cure and then I will be willing to subject myself to whatever punishment the Foundation has in store for me.
