Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a glass case secured to a pedestal. Level 2 Security Clearance is required to access SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an unbranded glass jar containing strawberry jam. It has a tin lid and a crude label stuck to the side that reads 'Mama's Homemade Jam'.
SCP-XXXX has two anomalous properties and is otherwise a regular jar of jam. Firstly, SCP-XXXX has the ability to refill itself. It is not yet known whether this process is instantaneous or if it takes place over a set amount of time, as it only refills while not being observed. The lid must also be screwed on for this process to take place, and if left off, will not refill.
SCP-XXXX’s second anomalous property belongs to the jam inside, which will be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. When SCP-XXXX-1 is spread across any surface other than the jar, a swarm of common household flies measuring roughly 3m3 in size, which will be referred to as SCP-XXXX-2, will materialise out of sight. When materialising, SCP-XXXX-2 will pick the nearest non-monitored space, and if multiple valid spaces exist, will pick one at random. SCP-XXXX-2 will navigate as a collective towards the exposed SCP-XXXX-1 and attempt to land on it, effectively covering the surface in flies. Any flies that are unable to contact the surface before being fully covered will cease to have any interest in the substance, becoming non-anomalous. SCP-XXXX-2 will always contain enough flies to fully cover the coated surface, with additional flies materialising from within the swarm if necessary.
Flies from SCP-XXXX-2 will stay stuck to the surface for as long as the substance remains, and each fly will also cease to be anomalous once attached. If the substance is not removed from the surface, the flies will stay stuck to the surface indefinitely and will die given enough time. SCP-XXXX-1 also exhibits unnaturally sticky properties, even for jam, making it exceptionally hard to remove along with the flies from a surface or subject. If a particularly large amount of SCP-XXXX-1 is used, removal by incineration is the only option.
Testing of SCP-XXXX-2 shows that it has a collective intelligence and is capable of navigating through mazes in order to reach the coated surface. If SCP-XXXX-2 materialises in a location where it is impossible to access SCP-XXXX-1, such as inside of a sealed room, the flies will immediately become non-anomalous and lose interest. No more swarms will materialise for the coated surface, although additional SCP-XXXX-1 can be applied in order to create another swarm. Testing also shows that SCP-XXXX-1 only attracts flies from SCP-XXXX-2, with non-anomalous flies and other insects showing no interest in the substance.
