Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the anomalous behavior exhibited by item SCP-XXXX and the public nature of the location, it was decided to allow SCP-XXXX to remain in it's original containment. Item SCP-XXXX shall remain disguised as the third furthest right-hand support post on ██████████ ███, a historical landmark located on the coast near ████████, ████████.

Devices and observation personnel have been placed in positions that allow them to monitor SCP-XXXX. All reports on public interactions with SCP-XXXX will be recorded and reviewed on a bi-monthly basis. However, no anomalous behavior is expected to be present unless SCP-XXXX is once again removed from it's position.

Description SCP-XXXX is an eight-meter long spike that is fifty-eight centimeters in diameter at it's top and tapers down to a point. SCP-XXXX exhibits adaptive camouflaging behavior, effectively duplicating the texture, color, and consistency of surrounding materials after remaining near to them for approximately six minutes. The adaptive abilities of SCP-XXXX can persist for over 120 years if local historical records and photographs are to be taken as fact.

Removal of SCP-XXXX can only be maintained for 783.603 seconds, after which the item moves itself back into its initial position through unknown means. Initially, the term 'teleport' was used to describe its movement, but evidence obtained in Test XXXX-c seems to disprove that classification, and as a result the term 'relocate' is now preferred when describing the movement characteristics of SCP-XXXX's return ability.

Addendum XXXX-a After quarantining the beach, removing the structure that surrounded SCP-XXXX, and confirming that there were no public observers, Dr. ███████ ████████ and agents ██████ and █████ began extraction and experimentation on the object. Due to SCP-XXXX's behavior, the initial extraction is now listed as Test XXXX-a.

Test XXXX-a: SCP-XXXX was removed using an IC-200 lifting crane. Upon removal from the beach, its weight changed drastically, overcoming the fifteen-ton lift capacity of the IC-200 and damaging the machine. SCP-XXXX proceeded to fall back into it's initial location. Dr. ████████ subsequently requested the use of a ████████████████ device for further extraction attempts.

Test XXXX-b: SCP-XXXX was successfully removed using the requisitioned ████████████████ device. SCP-XXXX exhibited massive fluctuations of mass while maintaining the same volume during extraction. The changes were anticipated and adjusted for so that extraction could continue. SCP-XXXX was loaded onto a flatbed truck and was in the process of being secured when it relocated back to it's initial position on the beach. No observable movement was detected or experienced, however the straps that had been used to secure it to the truck were found to be statically charged. No other damage was sustained to equipment or personal during this test.

Test XXXX-c: SCP-XXXX was removed again and placed on its side on the nearby beach. Dr. ████████ and Agent ██████ moved closer in order to examine its material composition, as it had changed from the white-painted wood of the pier post to something closer to the natural rock formations in the area. Agent █████ stood by, directly in line between SCP-XXXX's new position and SCP-XXXX's initial position.

Samples of SCP-XXXX's material could not be collected by standard collection means one through seven.

Upon reaching the 783.603 second limit, SCP-XXXX relocated back to it's initial position. Agent █████'s body became immediately charged with large amounts of static electricity, attracting vast amounts of sand and debris. The charge lasted for approximately eight minutes, and was only relieved once Agent █████ removed his protective foot gear and socks and placed them in the sand, effectively grounding himself.

Important Note: The █████ facility in ███████, █████ is reported to have measured earth's planetary mass decreasing by an estimated 0.001566% each time SCP-XXXX was removed from it's original location, prompting a cessation of further testing until the planetary mass loss is proven to be unrelated to SCP-XXXX.
