Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Previous Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in the Custodian's Storage Closet at Research Facility-921.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked storage facility at Research Facility-921. Said storage facility is to be kept free of liquids at all times, and no liquids should be transported via the adjacent rooms and passages. Should SCP-XXXX ever be removed from containment it is imperative that it be kept away from all liquids. In addition to containment SCP-XXXX is to have its Item # clearly written on both sides in permanent marker, with the accompanying warning of "DO NOT STEP ON THE SPILLAGE" also written in permanent marker. Should the warnings ever to be removed they are to be replaced as soon as reasonably possible while SCP-XXXX is safely contained in a room free of all liquids. Under no circumstances are elemental Mercury, or any other material which exists as a liquid at standard temperature and pressure and is hazardous as a gas, to be introduced to Research Facility-921.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a standard-issue English-language "Wet Floor Sign." The placement of any mass which exceeds 0.001kg, is in its liquid state, and is within 200m of SCP-XXXX, on a surface which could reasonably be identified as a "floor" will cause SCP-XXXX to animate and attempt to move itself toward the liquid sample, coming to a rest once it is directly over the sample’s centre of mass. Once SCP-XXXX has ceased animation the liquid sample is to be designated SCP-XXXX-1. Any attempt to walk over or through SCP-XXXX-1 will result in the walker tripping and sustaining a fatal injury. Attempts to clean or remove instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will also result in fatal injury, however all observed instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have evaporated within three hours, regardless of boiling point. Once SCP-XXXX-1 has evaporated it can be safely removed with the use of standard HVAC equipment. SCP-XXXX-1 will revert to the expected state of matter once it has been removed from the immediate vicinity of SCP-XXXX, and will no longer require designation.
Addendum 1: Exchange between Containment Engineer [REDACTED] and support staff [REDACTED] (transcribed from audio): What the fuck do you mean "Containment"!? It's a wet floor sign! Just stick it in the Janitor's closet and get back to work.
Addendum 2: Following the investigation initiated after the deaths of six custodians over eight months, and the nineteen fatalities in the male WC facilities on [REDACTED], SCP-XXXX is to be kept in permanent containment. Warnings against SCP-XXXX's use are to be clearly displayed and maintained.
