"The Distortion Hammer"

Item #: ****

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-**** is to be kept within a locked crate with a padded interior and stored in a storage room that requires at least level 3 clearance to access. SCP-** is not to be kept where any Class-D personal can easily stumble upon it. The object should be treated as a weapon.

Description: SCP-**** is a gray head of a sledgehammer that appears to be indestructible and because of this, we are unable to identify what material it is made of, although the density and weight suggests simple stone, but the outer appearance resembles steel. The object is 8in x 5in x 5in.

SCP-**** carries its anomalous properties regardless of being on or off of an actual sledgehammer handle. When slammed against any surface, the surface appears to temporarily distort and rebound like a trampoline regardless of what material the surface is made of, and does not seem to cause any sort of permanent damage upon inspecting the surface after it is finished vibrating. Dropping the head of the hammer alone could lead to difficulty retrieving it, as the object will be bouncing off the ground until it is grabbed or runs out of momentum. A number of tests have been conducted and will be referenced on this page as soon as possible.

Discovery: SCP-**** was found at an abandoned construction site in ████████, Oregon on September ██, 2019. The SCP itself was attached to a rotting wooden sledgehammer handle. The site appears to have had little to no actual construction done on it, presumably because of the SCP's effects being deemed useless by the construction crew. The logo printed on the side is a simple 'Indie Flower' font acronym of "SWE." It is unknown what exactly this stands for but it is theorized by most staff that it does not involve the country of Sweden. The logo appears to be simple gold paint.

SCP-xxxx TEST LOG

Test 1 - October ██, 2019
Target: Testing Chamber Floor
Results: Surface rebounds and distorts like a trampoline. No damage is done. Momentum stops after about 45 seconds.
Comments: None

Test 2 - October ██, 2019
Target: 3ft x 3ft x 2cm glass window.
Results: Similar to Test 1, no damage done.
Comments: The fragility and thickness of the target seems to affect how much the surface vibrates.

Test 3 - October ██, 2019
Target: 3ft x 3ft x 6in stone wall with glass window placed directly behind it.
Results: Stone wall acts as expected, glass shatters instantly as the bounce from the wall collides with it.
Comments: It appears that only the exact object struck with the hammer is affected by its anomalous properties, the glass was broken by the stone wall hitting it while bouncing.

Test 4 - November ██, 2019
Target: SCP-173.
Comments: Test cancelled. "Too risky. Who knows what could happen."

Test 5 - December █, 2019
Target: Middle-aged D-Class male.
Results: Target distorts and rebounds as expected, but then immediately began vomiting blood and [DATA EXPUNGED.] Target died in a matter of seconds.
Comments: Testing on live people or animals will no longer be permitted without Level 4 clearance or above. The target's vital organs and bones were destroyed as if he had been crushed by a building.

Test 6 - December, ██, 2019
Target: 3ft x 3ft x 1/4in sheet of diamond.
Results: Surface rebounds as expected, but with very little momentum.
Comments: Until further notice, it is currently concluded that harder substances are more resistant to the effects.

Conclusion
It appears that the hammer's effects only work on the first thing it hits and any connected nearby matter of the same kind. When directed at a person, the skin is unaffected, but all innards are treated like the skin collapsing in on it had immense pressure, like a trash compactor. More tests on other SCPs will come when authorized. Testing the effects of SCP-914 on SCP-**** will not be permitted, as it could risk losing the anomalous properties, or making it more dangerous. Staff seen playing with SCP-**** will be terminated.
