Hands on Historical Learning

Item #: SCP-4XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be kept in a locked steel box in the anomalous object containment locker on Site ███. All handling of SCP-4XXX must be overseen by Level 2 personnel, and be done using standard protective laboratory equipment. All pages of SCP-4XXX must not be touched by any biological matter unless directed by researchers with Level 3 clearance. Due to the potential to alter history or expose dangerous government secrets any individual handling, transporting, or interacting with SCP-4XXX in any way must be monitored via GPS tracking. Outside of controlled and heavily monitored testing, SCP-4XXX is not to be handled under any circumstance.

Description: SCP-4XXX is a leather-bound, extremely comprehensive world history textbook with the title: Hands-on Historical Learning written in white ink. The textbook is immensely detailed, describing the smallest events of each day in any nation. The most easily visible anomalous property of SCP-4XXX is its ability to generate new pages with up-to-date historical events. The new pages generate at 11:59 PM at night, detailing every single event performed by any legitimate government, with events detailed ranging from the beginnings of major political revolutions (such as █████████████), nuclear codes, covert activities (including Foundation activities) to the passing of a simple budget plan in a small Nigerian city. As of yet, SCP-4XXX has not been able to generate pages detailing future events. Despite more pages being added to SCP-4XXX, the object does not gain any weight.

The less obvious, yet substantially more dangerous property of SCP-4XXX is its ability to transport an individual into the past if any part of their body remains on a specific page for a period of between five and twenty seconds, appearing to have vanish with absolutely no trace by observers. Individuals who are transported by SCP-4XXX are transported in the general vicinity of the event described on the page, and will remain in that time period. It is possible to return to the individual's home time period if they manage to find and touch a page of SCP-4XXX. Returning to the individual's "present" time does not require finding any specific page.

Containment History: SCP-4XXX was first recovered on █/██/20██ when Foundation agents embedded in local law enforcement were made aware of an elderly man vanishing in the ████ Public Library. Upon being made aware of the object's anomalous properties when Officer █████ vanished due to improper handling of SCP-4XXX, the object was brought into Foundation custody and Class-C amnestics were used. Upon the discovery of SCP-4XXX's time-travelling properties, numerous Mobile Task Forces were sent into the past to deliver SCP-4XXX into Foundation custody. So far, the earliest year SCP-4XXX has been delivered into Foundation custody is 19██.

Incident Log: On ██/██/20██, a Foundation agent later identified as ████ ██████, who had been deployed earlier that day with a Mobile Task Force to destroy a nest of SCP-███ specimens, killed nine level 4 personnel, and made their way towards SCP-4XXX, unlocking its containment locker despite the agents recorded lack of interaction with it. As he was surrounded by the on-site security, he said: "You'll thank me later" before touching a page of SCP-4XXX and vanishing. When the Mobile Task Force containing Agent ██████ was contacted, Agent ██████ was confirmed to still be with them. Foundation staff later found evidence that the nine level 4 personnel killed had planned to reactivate SCP-███ later in the month and cause widespread destruction across the Western Hemisphere
