Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A 100 meter radius of non-entry is to be kept around SCP-XXXX at all times by Mobile Task Force Beta-1 ("Lord's Chosen") only (See Addendum XXXX-1), maintained with regular patrols, security checkpoints, and barbed wire fence. Only certain Foundation staff (See Addendum XXXX-1) are permitted to enter SCP-XXXX's containment, with authorization required by a member of Foundation Administrative Personnel with Security Clearance Level 4 or higher. Researchers studying SCP-XXXX must be accompanied by at least 2 MTFOs from MTF Beta-1 at all times, and may not enter SCP-XXXX under any circumstances. The use of lethal force against any and all natives to the area who approach within 5 meters of the fence or checkpoints (distance is marked with red tape around fence) is authorized. Any instance of SCP-XXXX-2 to emerge from or leave SCP-XXXX is to be met with lethal force, and reported to Dr. R█████. Every 260 days, MTF Beta-1 is to closely survey SCP-XXXX, and attempt to terminate any instance of SCP-XXXX-2 that surfaces, until it expires or is driven away.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a pool of stagnant water approximately 16 meters long and 7 meters wide. It is located 3 kilometers east from the village of ██████ in █████████, Brazil. Chemical analysis of the water reveals a salinity of over 645 ppt., higher than any body of water in the known world. What causes this overabundance of sodium chloride is as of date, unknown.

Discovered by the Foundation on July 12th, 1991 through local tales and rumors, SCP-XXXX was initially thought relatively non-anomalous, and thus the foundation's focus was centered on keeping the locals from approaching it, due to the inhabitants of ██████'s activities with the pool (See Addendum XXXX-2). This was initially left to local law enforcement to conduct, however on March 6, 1992, the memetic effect of SCP-XXXX was discovered (see Incident Report XXXX-1)

Occurring every 260 days (believed to be following the Tzolkin Calendar), an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 surfaces, and begins its memetic effect.

SCP-XXXX-2 are creatures that presumably live in the caves beneath SCP-XXXX, and surface SCP-XXXX to enact its memetic effect. Biologically, SCP-XXXX-2 resemble and are a near-exact genetic match with Dasyprocta leporina, except for a number of key differences. Autopsy of SCP-XXXX-2 has revealed expanded lung capacity (assumedly to traverse the underwater caverns), webs between the toes (to assist in underwater locomotion), and a lack of visible fur on the body.

When it surfaces, an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 begins a low vocal bellow at frequencies between 13-14 Hz. When within approximately 5km of SCP-XXXX, a chosen male humanoid (See Addendum XXXX-1) will feel compelled to approach SCP-XXXX, and [REDACTED]. It is as of date unknown how the SCP-XXXX-2 instance creates this vocalization, as well as how it produces a memetic effect. An instance of SCP-XXXX will then [REDACTED], and submerge once again. After this, another instance of SCP-XXXX-2 will (usually) not resurface for another 260 days. An instance of SCP-XXXX-2 will on occasion however, emerge from the pool before 260 days have passed since the last emergence, and begin its memetic effect. This has occurred on 2 separate occasions (See Incident Reports XXXX-3 and XXXX-4). It is due to this fact that constant surveillance is to be kept on SCP-XXXX.

The cave system within SCP-XXXX runs beneath the pool approximately 418 meters, with several cave entrances below the water leading to these underground tunnels.

Exploration of these tunnels farther than approximately 39 meters in the cave is as of date, impossible, due to an effect causing all electronic devices to stop functioning, and radio frequencies from reaching the surface. It is speculated that this is due to electrostatic discharge formed by the density of sodium chloride within the caverns, the friction of the molecules creating a natural ESD that shorts out electrical equipment and restricts the passage of radio waves. (See results of Exploration in Addendum XXXX-4).

Addendum XXXX-1:
Due to SCP-XXXX's memetic effect only affecting male humanoids, Foundation personnel entering SCP-XXXX's containment for any reason, must be of female sex (XX chromosomes only.). The only exception to this is in the case of testing, in which case all necessary precautions must be taken to ensure whatever male present in SCP-XXXX's containment cannot [REDACTED].

Mobile Task Force Beta-1 ("Lord's Chosen') must consist entirely of women, transgender men, or non-binary individuals born as female.

When selecting a male humanoid to be subjected to SCP-XXXX's memetic effect, there are certain traits that make the subject more likely to be selected. These include:

  • Being between 16-40 years of age
  • Having a BMI of 18-25
  • Having combat experience (military, martial arts, etc.)
  • Having killed another human being
  • Displaying sociopathic or psychotic tendencies

All male Foundation personnel and test subjects must be given an extensive background check and psychological screening before being allowed to enter SCP-XXXX's containment.

Addendum XXXX-3:

Addendum XXXX-4:

Director's Note: SCP-XXXX

The earlier days of modern foundation protocol were marked with numerous mistakes and mishandling of containment procedures. This was one of them.

Never should a board of staff be permitted to authorize such a large number of preventable casualties. The object itself withstanding, and simultaneously being relatively simple to contain, the natives of ██████ were acting in accordance to their traditions and values, regardless of how disturbing or upsetting they are. Relocation was a completely logical option, however the researchers allowed their moral judgement to cloud their perception of how these people were handled.

When you joined the Foundation, you all knew that your morality would have to be set aside for the sake of researching, protecting, and containing questionable anomalies. The staff at Site-█ knew this, however chose to ignore it for the sake of eliminating what they saw as 'evil' and 'unrighteous'. They placed their immediate sense of just behavior above the protocol the Foundation must follow to continue functioning.

This kind of gross incompetence is inexcusable, and will not be tolerated in this Foundation.

Let this be a lesson.

Verne S██████
Site Director
