Item # SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Foundation web crawlers are to monitor potential sites for evidence of SCP-XXXX-B. If such activity is found, Foundation web crawlers will remove all traces of SCP-XXXX-B and quarantine the site for a period of no less than two (2) hours until all traces of SCP-XXXX-B have been removed. Personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are to be screened on a weekly basis for evidence of SCP-XXXX infection. In the event of SCP-XXXX infection, affected personnel are to be given class C amnestics in order to negatate SCP-XXXX’s effects. Affected personnel are not to come within 10 meters of a doorway exceeding 5 meters in height (See Test XXXX-27. Foundation computers containing recorded content from SCP-XXXX-B are to remain undisturbed until analysis of SCP-XXXX is necessary. Viewing of SCP-XXXX-B or any of its recorded content must be approved by at least two (2) level 3 personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a memetic effect causing affected individuals to perceive doorways as animal mouths, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-A instances. The type of animal can change depending on the type of doorway1, ranging from smallest observed appearance (0.3 meters) to largest appearance observed to date (25 meters). Individuals infected by SCP-XXXX will display extreme aversion to doorways of any kind. It is important to note that SCP-XXXX-A instanced will only manifest behind doors that were previously closed before the affected individual entered the room. Unaffected individuals will be able to pass through affected doorways without being impeded, however affected individuals attempting to do the same will be eaten by the SCP-XXXX-A instance, regardless of whether the SCP-XXXX-A instance belongs to a carnivore or herbivore. All SCP-XXXX-A instances recorded have been shown to be anatomically correct, including a fully functional trachea as recorded by affected personnel. Personnel viewing the subject upon entering a SCP-XXXX-A instance will report the subject entering the doorway, then “dissolving” as they cross through the doorway. Class C amnestics have been shown to be sufficient in negating SCP-XXXX’s effects. SCP-XXXX can be transmitted by viewing a live feed titled “Mouth.wav”, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-B. Attempts to trace this feed’s location place it in various locations across the former Soviet Union, and its location has varied since its discovery. SCP-XXXX-B can manifest on any website capable of transmitting audio and visual feed, however appear to prefer popular sites such as Youtube, Twitch, Mixer, etc. In this feed several still images of the inside of various animal’s mouths, which viewers regard as “mildly disturbing”, even when they otherwise wouldn’t. Affected individuals will only begin to attempt to transfer SCP-XXXX once they enter stage 2 of infection. This output has not changed since its time in Foundation containment, however due to the danger this anomaly presents if it were to get out, jamming of the feed should be considered alpha priority. In the event a CK class end of the world scenario occurs due to an affected individual exposing SCP-XXXX to a “critical mass” of people, protocol Lamda-XXXX-B2, and all SCP-XXXX-B instances are to be jammed permanently. is to be enacted. Onset occurs in 4 stages3, listed below.
Stage 1: Initial exposure, subject begins noticing mouths out of the corner of their eye, however, often does not alert affected individuals as they brush it off as hallucinations. As hallucinations become more common, subjects invariably show signs of paranoia and schizophrenia, however, are not affected by these hallucinations directly and SCP-XXXX-A instances do not manifest at this point.
Stage 2: Occurs after 24 hours of exposure. Individuals begin to attempt to expose others to SCP-XXXX. Affected individuals do not feel this is as a “need”, more so it feels right to them. If asked, 97% of individuals were able to resist this compulsion at this stage. Beginning at this stage, the main effects of SCP-XXXX begin taking place, with a 37% likelihood that an SCP-XXXX-A instance will occur behind a closed door. Paranoia increases to the point individuals will fail to enter doorways unless under orders of termination. Schizophrenia-like effects cease at this phase, with little to no hallucinations reported in individuals affected.
Stage 3: Occurs after 72 hours since initial exposure. Individuals will begin feeling a near-uncontrollable urge to expose SCP-XXXX to others, with 95% of individuals tested showing an inability to resist exposing unaffected individuals. The likelihood of an SCP-XXXX-A instance manifesting behind a shut door increases to 85% in observed tests. Affected individuals will not enter a doorway, affected or unaffected, even under threat of termination, necessitating the use of force to enter any doorway.
Stage 43: Occurs after 96 hours of exposure. SCP-XXXX-A instances are no longer restricted to doorways, and can manifest when potential surfaces4 are not in a direct line of sight. Unaffected personnel are affected by these SCP-XXXX-A instances despite never being exposed to SCP-XXXX itself, and reality begins to be affected by SCP-XXXX-A instances. Only 1 instance of stage 4 infection has been recorded by foundation staff to date. In the event an individual develops stage 4 infection, the individual is to be terminated as soon as possible, due to the possibility of a XK-Class Mass Extinction Event occurring. (See test XXXX-27)
Notable Tests Log XXXX
Test XXXX-1 - 4/10/2016
Subject: D-7365
Procedure: D-7365 is to be infected with SCP-XXXX and stand in front of a closed door. D-7365 is to report any feelings of unease to foundation staff.
Results: D-7365 reported feelings of paranoia and wished to move away from the adjacent doorway.
Analysis: It appears SCP-XXXX induces these effects, rather than them being non-anomalous.
Test XXXX-6 - 9/16/2016
Subject: D-7592
Procedure: Subject was allowed to progress to stage 2 of SCP-XXXX infection. Subject was to stand in front of a 2.13 meter tall by 0.6 meter wide closed door, and open it.
Results: D-7592 was uncooperative unless threatened with termination. At this point, D-7592 opened the door, before moving away from the door, while recommending us to watch SCP-XXXX’s live stream. When asked to comply with testing procedures, D-7592 complied and no further mention of Mouth.wav was heard again. When asked to describe what he saw, D-7592 responded “A big ass mouth in the door.” When asked to describe the mouth, he described various bovine characteristics
Analysis: It appears SCP-XXXX’s effects are not limited to carnivores, and SCP-XXXX-A instances can manifest as herbivores as well.
Test XXXX-12 - 9/18/2016
Subject: D-7592
Procedure: D-7592 was allowed to advance to stage 3 of infection. D-7592 is ordered to open a 4 meter tall by 1.5 meter wide door and report any results to on site research teams.
Results: D-7592 falls into the manifested SCP-XXXX-A instance, presumably from shock, and appears to vanish from Site-41 upon entering what appeared to be the other side of the door.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX-A instances confirmed to be dangerous and not hallucinations
Test XXXX-15 - 1/19/2017
Subject: D-7642
Procedure: Subject is allowed to advance to stage 3 infection, and is then forced into an SCP-XXXX-A instance by unaffected D-Class personnel.
Results: D-7642 was forced under threat of termination to open a 4 meter tall by 1.5 meter wide door, and upon doing so described “a massive mouth, like a whale or some shit”. Following this description, unaffected D-Class personnel were ordered to force her into the SCP-XXXX-A instance, upon entering which appeared to “fall” through the floor for approximately 2 feet before vanishing.
Analysis: It appears the animal SCP-XXXX-A instances manifest as is determined by how large the doorway is.
Test XXXX-27 - 6/27/20██
Subject: D-8625
Procedure: Subject is to be allowed to progress to hypothesized “stage 4” of the infection, and to open a 25 meter tall by 7 meter wide door and describe what they saw
Results: Door opened for a split second, before D-8625 was forcefully sucked into the adjacent door. During this event, a sound equivalent to 315 decibels was released, killing all personnel on site. The noise was heard at Site 19, approximately 2900 miles away from the testing site. This event was explained to the public as nuclear weapons testing.
Analysis: During cleanup, remains of D-8625 were found in a spaghettified fashion similar to what is theorized on the human body from a supermassive black hole. It is currently unknown if this means SCP-XXXX determines black holes to be living entities, or if they are living entities in themselves.
Note: Testing with SCP-XXXX is currently discontinued until further notice.
