SCP 071 [Fictional]
-DESCRIPTION OF SCP-071 [TAKEN POST ANALYSIS]-[1]
SCP-071 appears to be a hard maple wood box, roughly 10cm by 10cm in length and width, measuring 5cm in height. (500cm3) The lid is detachable, requiring less than 5N of force to pull it off and push it back into place.
The surface of SCP-071 is dishevelled and has the occasional bit of corrosion visible from it, signifying a partly natural material covering the exterior. Attempts to break or damage the object remain futile, high temperature and extreme pressure tests have been exerted, along with firearms, blunt force trauma, and other intensive forces. Conclusions reveal SCP-071 having been resistant to over 100,000 KELVIN and 200atm.
Electromagnetic waves are induced by the object when anything enters its vicinity within a measured distance of 5m in a radius around it. Photography peripherals and any physical documentation of the object is hindered by this, in most cases (tested with a range of electronic objects) causing them to shut down indefinitely or affecting the internals of the device, causing it to become unusable.
Upon opening of the lid, a mutated strain of Ophiocordyceps unilateralis (Cordyceps) which affects the cerebellum of the brain as its primary, is released into the nearby air. (Upon further analysis, it seems only to affect the victim who opened the box; however, the controlled host may act as a vector when scratching, biting, or eating other victims.
Upon opening; the box fills up with a crimson liquid, later identified as the blood of the host. Upon post-test autopsy, checking through the arteries, veins, and all primary capillaries, there have been less than 1% traces of haemoglobin and visible blood. In a form unknown as of late, the blood of the victim is transferred into the box as it is opened. Subsequently, as the cordyceps begin to take over the hosts mind, the victim after loss of blood entirely, remains in an erect posture and in a bipedal locomotion. Manual dexterity and sensory neurones seem to have slurred and detrimental effect on thought processes turn the host into a form of organism similar to that of SCP-049-2. Despite the entire loss of blood, muscle activity and ligaments seem to work as effective as before. The victim is now referred to as SCP-071-B.
-SCP-071-B-
SCP-071-B is the host after effects have taken over motor skills. The creature at this stage attempts to spread the epidemic to nearby human beings. As a vector, they pass on the cordyceps by biting of the cranium, through saliva. Other parts of the body may be bitten, but will take longer to become affected. Numerous Class D experiments have taken place to establish the extent of these “bites”. In the event that a catastrophic release of this sickness occurs, the scientific ward of Site ██ - ██ in ███, Russia has implemented a sort of “universal indicator” to ensure it is more easily identifiable. All traces of 071-B are to be terminated on sight and disposed of rapidly, preferably by cremation or acid bath. (Extremely high concentration of hydrochloric acid, with hydrofluoric in different amounts.)
NEW FINDINGS SUBSEQUENT TO INCIDENT 001-A
Traces of 071-B have been noted to retain most of its bodily structure without nourishment or hydration for up to 10 weeks. Resistance to high temperatures and humidity levels exceed regular human capabilities, having been seen functioning properly at excess of 100 degrees Celsius in room temperature.
After Incident 002-XX1 it was discovered that 7.62x39mm firearm bullets had a decreased effect on traces of 071-B as compared to humans. Testing information has been barred from public release by O5-██.
-SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES OF SCP-071-
SCP-071 is to be kept in a locked graphene container, interlocked with multiple metal alloys and lead-lined steel surrounding the outer casings. A single integer-number lock will be implemented onto the side of the container to open it for testing, which will be on a daily rota to change at 00:00 to a new random code. The only ones notified of the new codes are ███ and the █████. Staff are not permitted to enter its containment chamber at any time, unless for testing, which must be authorised by 2 thirds of the present O5 council. Staff or class D converted to 071-B are to be, in any case, terminated on the spot, regardless of their position in the foundation. Opening of the container is only to be permitted by class D for further analysis of the SCP’s methods. Once the final conclusions have been drawn, the specimen (SCP-071) will be cremated permanently.

RETRIEVAL
Dr ██ ███ was recovered from the incident with SCP-071.
The current state of Agent ██ is DECEASED. (5.56x39mm bullet shot to the head and left lung by RRT.)
Upon recovery of Dr ██ ███, subject was interviewed regarding the incident, with specimen 071 being quarantined until further information could be provided regarding it.
Attached is an audio log of the following interview, taken on the 7th of ████, 19█ at approximately 0900 hours.
[[Begin Log]]
Interviewee: Dr ██ ███
Interviewer: Dr. ████Dr ██ ███: How long will this take?
[Interviewer] Dr. ████: As long as it may need to, in order for us to get a concise understanding as to what happened the other day.
Dr ██ ███: I can tell you what I know, but…
A few seconds of silence occupies.
[Interviewer] Dr. ████: But…?
Dr ██ ███: Something’s wrong with that thing. The object.
Rustling through papers can be heard, the interviewer continues after several seconds.
[Interviewer] Dr. ████: I’d like you to run me through everything that occurred when you attempted to obtain the object in question.
Dr ██ ███: The armed guy I was with, part of MTF, he went haywire, started getting quite aggressive too, saw it in his body language. Even so, I could still see him behind his blank expression. He was struggling to fight back against whatever the hell took control of him.Interviewee takes a few seconds to breathe deeply before carrying on.
Dr ██ ███: He opened what we were trying to take, some sort of light or something emitted from it, I saw this weird liquid, like blood. Look.
He hands the interviewer a cassette tape of the bodycam. The interviewer writes a few times.
Interviewee is showed bodycam footage of the MTF agent, signifying the box was filled with a dark crimson liquid, fairly viscous, upon opening.
Interviewee attempts to speak, but is cut off.[Interviewer] Dr. ████: We have it in the lab at the moment, it’s being worked upon. We have what we need, interview concluded.
[[End Log]]
Upon further exploration into the molecular structure of said object, various anomalous properties were detected, out of range of normal laws of structure.
The following is a timeline of chemical breakdown of SCP-071.

Incident 001-A
SENSITIVE INFORMATION AS FOLLOWS, AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
The following was articulated by Dr. ██████
On March ██, 19██- Dr. ████ had entered the containment chamber of SCP-071 premature to testing procedures with Class D.
Upon conversion to 071-B, the doctor was not found until approximately 35 minutes later, in which security department trainee ███ ██ was entering the chamber for routine checks.
Dr. ████ was put in restraints and confined within a restricted area, monitored regularly.
A preemptive decision was made by O5-█ to install 500 lumen lightbars on various corners of the room.
TESTING PROCEDURE 01 - 19██
Dr. ████, approximately 5 weeks into state as 071-B was released from solitary confinement after more than a month without nourishment or hydration. Observations are as follows:
- Subject had minor rashes to the face and palms, evidently having scratched or damaged them voluntarily.
- Eyes were less moistened than previously, severe bags underneath with no signs of feces or waste product anywhere in the chamber.
- Severe lacerations to the back, unknown source but most likely self inflicted.
- Highly malnourished and dehydrated, despite showing slowed signs of body weight loss and decay.
- Behaviour seemed calmer than previously, having come to terms with his position.
A debate originating from the ethics committee was in favour of immediately concluding testing, however, outcome was overruled by O5-█ and O5-█, followed by the present O5-X.
Dr. ████ was placed back into solitary confinement soon after.
TESTING PROCEDURE 02 - 19██
Dr. ████, approximately 16 weeks into state as 071-B was released from solitary confinement. Observations are as follows:
- Light scratch marks on the left upper wrist, each limb distinctly thinner and flesh had become slightly more dry.
- 071-B displayed severe sensitivity to personnel around him, and had a stunted ability to speak incoherent words, mostly whispers.
- Clothes appear ripped voluntarily by the lower abdomen and legs.
Noted that the specimen produced multiple english words during its time in containment, varying from angered swearing to pleads.
During post-analysis preparation for re-entering solitary confinement, the subject determined increased aggression and swiped at Jr. Researcher Dr. ███.
This scratched him numerous times on the face, resulting in another heated objection from the ethics committee.
Dr. ███ was inserted into solitary confinement into the same chamber as Dr. ████ to prevent any further damage to the foundation, and further preparations were ruled too dangerous to carry out without protective gearing.
TESTING PROCEDURE 03 - 20██
Both specimens, approximately ██ weeks into solitary confinement. Upon opening of the chamber doors, Dr. ████ was seen lying face-up in the centre of the room.
Further analysis of the flesh appeared to have high traces of dead cells- a dry, flaky material to the human eye.
Minimal sounds were produced by Dr. ████ except for pained groans.
Noted that Dr. ███ had produced an excruciatingly loud, garbled screech, which persisted for up to 15 minutes at a time in short bursts.
TESTING CONCLUDED AFTER ETHICS COMMITTEE MAJORITY VOTE.
Both specimen were expired after testing, having been unable to continue with environmental experiments, they were ██████████.
Post-termination, one of the scientists that partook in the experiment were questioned by the ethics committee regarding the events.
For anonymity purposes, the scientist's identity has been redacted.
███: I have no words for that occurred, I had to keep a brave face on through it all.
A few seconds of silence.
███: We tortured those people, for what? We knew they were conscious, but decided to go through with it. I stared them in the face as they withered slowly away.
███ can be heard shuffling in the background, audibly uncomfortable.
███: There is no excuse for what happened, it was inhumane.
███: He spoke words to me. I saw nothing but pain in his eyes.
The scientist pauses for a moment, regaining composure.███: Death is not what I fear, it's the method of death.
A click sound is heard in the background.
POST-EXPERIMENT ANALYSIS
Despite the monotone conclusion to the experiment, the deaths of those two gentlemen were not in vain. We've recovered numerous findings upon this, how we can delay and gradually prevent this epidemic from ever becoming lethal again. I'd like to thank those who took part greatly, their services were invaluable to what we've obtained. - Dr. ██.
