Item #: SCP-5202
also known as: Wood rot bird
Object Class: Safe / Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: 5202 must be muzzled and have their face wrapped if going to be in contact with humans, due to highly toxic saliva.
-If not allowed to be around humans they do not need to have a protective face cover. Instead, they must be kept in a large chained area when non permitted to roam freely. they like being able to walk, if one tries to take away the space they have, they will attack in flocks.
Description: a large boney, featherless avian species with an upright 8ft humanoid posture.
They often has loose skin on their throats, wings, and thighs. Everything not covered in skin are littered opaque scales that often show the muscle under the being. (skin and scales come in a verity of interesting colors. )
The species has a (wooden) skull like head, supported by a long neck that arches over their ribcage. The skull connects to the "wings" of the avian, to form a strange jaw that contains the toxic liquid tongue (similar to a kimono dragons saliva) inside.
Woodrot birds grow a soft thick layer of feathers in the winter, or when living in places that snow or freeze over alot.
If a human enters an enclosure containing a flock, the flock will disperse around the human and study them closely. If deemed friendly by the woodrot birds, the human will be permitted to view nests and touch younglings. If deemed aggressive they'll drive the human away or even harm them, if human attempts to harm egg or hatchling the flock will gather and kill the human with their toxic saliva or by slash / blunt damage using their wing arms
The woodrot birds abilities include > toxic acidic saliva, toxic webs from saliva- cameras cannot take a photo of a woodrot because of toxic saliva (?) humanlike intelligence
Addendum 1: first flock discovered in 2005 swimming in crater Lake (oregon) with unknown intentions.
addendum 2: wood rot birds were contained due to the sometimes aggressive behavior. While also the less than reputable appearance scaring people to their deaths occasionally.
