Description: SCP-5858 is the collective designation for a series of stereo-format tapes produced by the Universal Consciousness Rejuvenation Committee from 1975 to 1984. All original cassettes are labelled "Healing Affirmations For Personal Growth" followed by a number between two and twenty-seven.
Tapes usually contain electronic ambient music, birdsong recordings originating from Mount Zion Demonstration State Forest, the sounds of waterfalls and rivers, binaural pure tones fluctuating between 0.5 and 2Hz (associated with delta waves, produced during deep stage 3 of NREM sleep), accompanied by a voice reading aloud statements twice over with ten second spaces for listeners to repeat these statements. Statements across all tapes are identical for the most part, with each tape spoken aloud by a different member of the UCRC.

Anomalous properties: From initial reporting, SCP-5858 instances are believed to constitute low-grade oneirohazards, affecting dreamed experiences. Statements contained within SCP-5858 lack anomalous properties in and of themselves, requiring the aural context of the tape in addition to voluntary repetition by the listener in order for anomalous effects to manifest, with unknown duration and onset.
No discernible compulsions appear to be induced via listening; subjects under controlled conditions typically become unsettled by the contents of SCP-5858 at the fifteen-minute mark when the entity 'Oomb' is first mentioned explicitly, and lose interest. Due to lowered possibility for widespread dissemination and comparable mildness of anomalous effects, SCP-5858 is considered to be a low-priority assignment of RMTF Araphel-1 of Site-64.
RMTF Araphel-1 have requisitioned eight additional D-class subjects for inclusion in a study aiming to observe SCP-5858's oneirohazardous properties in a controlled environment over an extended duration, with the termination of said study expected to occur by 31/12/1980. As a result, this document is transitory in nature and may be significantly altered following the conclusion of this study.

History: The Universal Consciousness Rejuvenation Committee is believed to be a sect formed as a result of an internal disagreement within an occult counterculture group, labelling themselves as the "Cascadian Forest Spirit Protectors". With first recorded activities in 1963, the CFSP remains a largely passive and politically-inactive group, concerned with the recreational access of botanical noospaces (designated Regions OB-00 to OJ-99) through transcranial direct-current stimulation in ritualistic combination with psychedelics and entheogens, notably synthesised analogues of DMT, a hallucinogenic tryptamine. These rituals are typically conducted in Clatsop State Forest.
CFSP members describe this process as "green-sleep" or "forest-dreaming" and variations thereof, with the aim being to passively observe what Clatsop State Forest is "dreaming" about. Usually this is experienced as abstract and disembodied sensations of sunlight, temperature changes, the absorption of water through roots, the opening and closing of flowers, and the movement of small animals residing in Clatsop State Forest. At higher doses, members report feelings of visceral re-embodiment into the forest itself, involuntary glossolalia, loss of motor control, and somnambulistic events, believed by the CFSP to be temporary possession by a "Gaian-type subspirit".
Foundation operatives specialising in noospatial navigation and negotiation with oneiric entities who infiltrated the CFSP from 1968-69 reported that this ritual was a crude, chemically and electromagnetically-induced reverse form of "naked-interfacing", a shamanic technique used during Project Panorama to assist psionic surveillance operations of Soviet missile-sites through the possession of flocks of subarctic sea-birds on a limited scale. Operatives believed, however, that the CFSP's activities were safe provided they continued to limit noospatial-viewing to Clatsop State Forest and botanical noospaces.
CFSP activities were informally tolerated by the FBI Unusual Incidents Unit and the Foundation as part of Operation Deadwood (1955-1968), which aimed to divert the radical Oregonian vegan-occult movement into undertakings less likely to interfere with the maintenance of consensus normality. As of 11/21/1979, the low-priority status of the CFSP is likely to be formally re-evaluated.
Tensions emerged in early 1974 when a small group of CFSP members accessed Region OM29, a territory believed at the time by the Foundation to be a perfect noospatial void. This group was formally ejected from the CFSP in late 1974, after claiming to have come into contact with an unknown entity named "Oomb".

Following the group's consideration of objections lodged by Her Eternal Torpor, Dewan Lapsuloida Unslae-Borghanorum Opulquick della Qici, whose cooperation in Foundation dreamspace operations is most highly-valued, and the testimony of Mr. ████ █████, Dep. H.Com. Dr. ██████ ████████ presented to those convened an outline of OM29's potential suitability as a primary disposal site for all Project ███████ operations. RMTF Araphel-1 Dream Log Of Subjects Exposed to SCP-5858

Dreamed experiences of subjects for the first five nights following exposure to SCP-5858 did not deviate significantly from a baseline established two months prior to the commencement of testing. However, on the sixth night of observation, all subjects reported substantially anomalous dreams.
Subject 1 (D-3044), a 25-year-old man, no personal or family history of mental illness, former body-builder. Subject 1 dreamt about being at his family farm as a child, a recurring situation. He noticed: "lumps that looked like eggs" under his skin, growing larger and larger the longer he looked at them. Subject 1 believed them to be cancerous nodules. He observed the nodules were tender to his touch, describing them as "making [him] stronger". Subject 1 recalled the remainder of his family, including a pit-bull puppy he owned as a child, also developing lumps. As the lumps grew heavier over time, he recalled finding it more difficult to move since he was "growing exponentially". Before the dream concluded, he found himself looking down at the farm from far above.
Subject 2 (D-3076), a 45-year old woman, no personal or family history of mental illness, former electrician. Subject 2 dreamt about being in her "old house in Brooklyn", also believing herself to be a child in the dream. Subject 2 recalled being in her bed when she heard a "pulsing" sound originating from behind the walls. She peeled open the walls using her fingernails to find they were "thin as paint". Behind the walls were a mass of wires and flesh, which she believed to be responsible for the pulsing sound. Subject 2 furthermore recalls using a knife to carve out "chunks" of her flesh as an "offering", which she pressed into the walls until she had regressed to the size of an infant, at which point the walls "took [her] in".
Subject 3 (D-3109), a 25-year-old person, no personal or family history of mental illness, student of botany. Subject 3 remembered themselves lying on top of a table at an elementary school, a recurring setting. Their "favourite" teacher was conducting surgery on them. Subject 3 recalls that their skin had been "opened up", with raw wounds being visible. The teacher was "connecting" a kudzu vine into these wounds, allowing it to "slide" into their veins. Subject 3 recalls being calm while this was occurring, and asked their teacher why the operation was taking place. The teacher replied in in an unfamiliar, "deep" voice laden with echoing. To the best of their recollection, the reply was "you are in tune with nature".
Subject 4 (D-2894), a 76-year-old woman, no personal or family history of mental illness, retiree at time of acquisition. Subject 4 dreamt of sailing a dinghy out into the ocean, a recurring situation. In the middle of the ocean was an entity, described by her as "something between a mandala, a flower, and a spider". She believes the entity was drinking from the ocean, in continuous gulps, heavily enough that she could feel the sea-level descending. Subject 4 attempted to verbally confront the entity
She was riding a dinghy out onto a lake, out into the ocean. In the middle of the ocean was a mandala-flower-spider thing. It was drinking from the ocean in continuous gulps, so heavily that she could feel the ocean descending. It said to her "you are on the verge of flourishing into something new". Her dinghy sank and she ended up in the ocean, and she started eating fish, becoming bigger and bigger until her dinghy was tiny and she was deep down inside the ocean. Inside the ocean she saw a tiny glowing fish. She tried to eat it but it turned out to be a giant anglerfish, which ate her.
He was having a meeting at his work. He heard shallow breathing, nobody else could hear it. It came from a wardrobe he had as a child. His boss said, "why don't you take a look inside?". He went inside to find the wardrobe was much larger, an enormous dark void with shallow, slow breathing. He walked further in with his hands outstretched until he touched warm fur. He asked it why it was in the wardrobe, and it said that it was ugly and needed to hide until it was beautiful.
