Item #: SCP-4941
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4941 is to be kept in a triple-biometric security locker within a 5m x 5m x 5m lead-lined cell at Site-██. SCP-4941 is not to be handled by any Foundation personnel without approval from the Site Director. Foundation personnel are not to approach SCP-4941 within 10m without approval from the Site Director. Level 3 anti-cognitohazard protections and full radiation-protective gear are to be administered to any and all assigned personnel.
Standard positive-action defenses (explosive, chemical, radioactive, biological, and memetic) are to be in place at all times, according to standard operating procedure. Any unauthorized personnel who come into direct physical contact with SCP-4941 are to be immediately terminated either through the aforementioned defenses or by other on-site personnel. Exposing SCP-4941 to another SCP is strictly prohibited under any circumstances.
Description: SCP-4941 has the appearance of a 15th century Ottoman scimitar with a single cutting edge. The hilt is made of silver with a single amethyst encrusted on each side of the pommel. The blade is composed of a composite alloy of steel, nickel, titanium, and several unidentified metals, and is pitch black in appearance. All attempts to melt down or otherwise destroy SCP-4941 have failed. Radio carbon dating has estimated the age of the blade to be between 3,000 - 4,500 years older than historical 15th century Ottoman scimitars of a similar appearance, and it is notable that blacksmithing techniques advanced enough to produce such a sword should not have existed at the time it was created.
When a human is within 10m of SCP-4941, the blade will begin to emit a static hum. This hum is audible to personnel outside of 10m. Personnel who approach within 10m of the sword report also hearing either a single voice or several cacophonous voices whispering to them to pick up the sword, although personnel outside of the 10m range report no such occurrences and only hear the static hum. Personnel for whom English is not their native language have reported hearing a voice or several voices whispering in their native language. The static hum and voices are still audible even if SCP-4941 is within a containment unit or otherwise not directly visible. It is currently unknown if SCP-4941 is sentient or displays intelligence and any attempts to study it's potential intelligence are prohibited.
When a human comes into physical contact with SCP-4941 the blade begins to glow with a bright purple hue. Full spectral analysis has revealed that the blade emits extreme levels of ultraviolet radiation when in this state and any personnel within 5m experience the effects of a severe sunburn on any exposed skin, excluding the person wielding it. Any human wielding SCP-4941 demonstrates an immediate onset of severe bloodlust and attempts to kill anyone within their line of sight. Those killed by the blade emit a moderate level of electromagnetic radiation upon death which is then absorbed into SCP-4941. Attempts to destroy SCP-4941 revealed that it is capable of absorbing any type of radiation it is exposed to. Absorbing different types of radiation has no visible affect on SCP-4941's appearance or capabilities. When placed in an area already heavily irradiated while in this state the surrounding radiation will be gradually removed and absorbed by the blade. (Note: While it may be tempting to use this ability to clean up radiation in other Foundation-controlled areas, the volatile nature of SCP-4941 makes such an endeavor too dangerous and is therefore prohibited by the Site Director.)
SCP-4941 is capable of cutting through or burning most materials. Wounds made to the body with SCP-4941 are instantaneously cauterized. It is notable that the radiation emitted and absorbed by the blade cannot pass through lead and the blade has difficulty cutting through lead materials.
SCP-4941 was accidentally discovered by a regiment of the United States Marines in a cave near ███████, Iraq on May ██, ████. Upon discovery, Sgt. ██████████ came into contact with SCP-4941 and proceeded to wipe out the entire regiment. Anomalous radiation readings detected by Foundation personnel in the area around ███████, Iraq led to Foundation interference and the subsequent termination of Sgt. ██████████ and recovery of SCP-4941. After losing several D-Class and research personnel during initial testing, SCP-4941 was designated object class Euclid and contained at Site-██.
