Interviewed: SCP-4395
Interviewer: Dr. Inchgarth
Foreword: Entity is questioned of its origin and purpose. SCP-4395 is co-operative but cannot explain what power sustains itself, insisting that it is a 'gift of Hephaestus.'
Interview Start – 14:29pm
Dr. Inchgarth: Good morning 4395.
SCP-4395: Excuse me? My name is-
Dr. Inchgarth: Your name matters naught to the Foundation, you are an anomaly and I am here to figure out what you are. While you are under my care and that of the Foundation you will be refereed to 4395 and respond to my questions and any orders given understood?
SCP-4395: Bah, you doctors are all far too curt and to the point. Very well I'll comply with your studies though I assure you the powers I possess are purely a blessing from Hephaestus.
Dr. Inchgarth: Hephaestus? You mean to tell me you came to be from the God of Smithing of the Greek Pantheon?
SCP-4395: The one and only good doctor. For rescinding my flesh Hepheastus granted me the chance to learn all I could of my craft. To forge without rest, without fear of mortality impeding my learning and to travel the world to master metallurgy as best I could and pass on my knowledge for the generations to come.
Dr. Inchgarth: Rescind your flesh? Was that by a means of sacrifice, or a ritual perhaps?
SCP-4395: Both I suppose, the creation of this vessel was done in a time of duress. To defend my people from the Persian threat you see. I was a worshiper of the Cult of Hephaestus in my city. As the Achaemenid Dynasty grew in strength and made its way westwards towards us we believed war would come so I volunteered to the ritual.
Dr. Inchgarth: What happened?
SCP-4395: I was encased in bronze plates with leather placed to act a joints to allow mobility. Then the priests engraved words onto each plate to determine its function so as my body decomposed over time my consciousness could be transferred to the vessel and allow me to act as if I was in a human body. For instance the symbol over my mouth simply says "Mouth" so I can project my voice.
Dr. Inchgarth: So the symbols allow you to retain your senses and mind?
SCP-4395: Spot on doctor!
Dr. Inchgarth: Earlier you stated that you were made to combat invaders. What role did you play in this task?
SCP-4395: My purpose was not to combat the Persians directly but instead forge as many weapons and sets of armour as I could before the enemy arrived at our gates. As I did not need food nor sleep I could work continuously while my fellow blacksmiths could rest and eat. However when the Persians finally came the city council surrendered the city in order to prevent bloodshed and the possible razing of our beloved city.
Dr. Inchgarth: So you sacrificed your humanity to protect your city, only for that sacrifice to be nullified.
SCP-4395: Nay it was not in vain doctor while yes my original purpose was made redundant I took it upon myself to make the most of this gift and travel the world and learn all I could as I said before.
Dr. Inchgarth: A noble goal I must say. Nonetheless can you explain how your consciousness was able to be transferred by the symbols? Was it a chant? Blood perhaps?
SCP-4395: Only the Gods could answer that I'm afraid. As it is my belief that the will of Hephaestus is what powers my vessel through these symbols and allows me eternal servitude to master my craft.
Dr. Inchgarth: A shame. I believe I've got enough to make a start on unraveling this anomaly so I conclude this interview. Thank you for your co-operation 4395.
SCP-4395: Glad to see some manners at last doctor. While you have no wish to learn my name may I at least know yours.
Dr. Inchgarth: Inchgarth. Graham Inchgarth.
SCP-4395: Huzzah some informality at last Graham! I look forward to unraveling this mystery together.
Dr. Inchgarth: Please refer to me as Dr. Inchgarth for the time being 4395, there must be a level of professionalism maintained. Though I admit you have intrigued me. Farewell.
