Humane Torture Device:
A virtual reality headset that simulates a wearer’s absolute worst nightmare/ pain/ scenario possible. Unlike our VR tech, this headset influences not just sight and sound but all other senses, including pain. When the device is worn and strapped with the convenient safety buckle to the victim’s head and switched on, it anomalously takes the wearer’s worst fears from somewhere in their minds (they might not even have known themselves that this would be the thing to scare/ hurt them the most) and simulates it.
The victim will always get the full sensory experience, regardless of if they are deaf, blind, numb etc. This effect will go as soon as the headset is switched off or taken off. Basically, the device is something that affects the mind/ brain rather than the wearer’s senses directly.
It’s a wireless device with a standard Micro-USB B charging port (so this gear isn’t necessarily from the future).
The VR headset is intentionally made the way it is and it’s a manufactured product. There is a company logo and name (might not actually give it a name though or have it redacted or something cuz naming it’ll just complicate things further with background stuff and dammit this is my first idea for my first skip and I don’t wanna be too ambitious unless a GoI will be compatible (The Factory?) but then that’s going to complicate things too. Will come to that, when I come it.) on the headset and it comes in a case with that same logo and name, alongside a handy dandy instruction manual. The case, headset and manual all call the headset the “The Humane Torture Device”. The manual is creepily casual about the whole ‘torture’ thing, giving instructions and diagrams on how to set up and use the product as well as tips on how to effectively use it for interrogation. It also advises the use of amnestics (from the same company brand) after interrogation as even though the wearer isn’t /physically/ harmed, they definitely aren’t going be mentally sane. There are advertisements for other products, including an amnestics subscription plan. It might also be cool (pretty loose interpretation there, but whatever) if there are a few pages going on about how ethical the company is- giving their workers a good wage, no sweatshops, always using fully recycled/ recyclable materials, all- organic ingredients in the amnestics etc. Irony and stuff.
The product will be targeted towards and sold to governments, organisations- that sort of thing- presumably in another universe seeing as let’s be real, the foundation would probably have been all over this thing as soon as it hit the shelves. However, I have a feeling that a product like that would end up on the black market at some point, which is probably where the foundation will find it.
Might be a bit cliche with the whole ‘WoRsT nIgHtMaRe EvEr!’ thing going on but I’ll let the forum be the judge of that, I suppose.
