Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in an on-site library in site 2.5. SCP-XXXX is only to be removed when requested by and class (1-5) personnel. SCP-XXXX must be returned to the librarian Mr. Ross after (5) days has passed. If the reader does not return SCP-XXXX to Mr. Ross by the (5) day mark, their library card will be terminated for (1) day.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a copy of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. This version of the copy is the original 1951 print. SCP-XXXX is in excellent condition; the spine is intact, there are no missing pages, and there are no stains, cuts, tears, or dog-ears on the pages.

SCP-XXXX shows a strange property when read by any sentient creature. When being read, the reader will show great interest and will form an affection for SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is described by all readers as being "a page turner" and "something I would read in a cozy blanket on a cold winter day in Michigan for fun" even though The Catcher in the Rye is actually a pretty boring book. On one occasion, D-Class 124 read SCP-XXXX for 11 hours, not even putting SCP-XXXX down to use the restroom, eat, or sleep.

SCP-XXXX shows no sign of intelligence or desire to protect or harm humans. SCP-XXXX has been declared non-sentient by Mr. Ross.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX was discovered when Mr. Ross was going through book records. Mr. Ross had found SCP-XXXX in the "literary classic" section. Mr. Ross had sent SCP-XXXX to Dr. [REDACTED] in fear of it being dangerous (Mr. Ross has a strange fascination for K-Class scenarios). Dr [REDACTED] had requested a D-Class to read SCP-XXXX in a 10 x 10m plexiglass room in fear of SCP-XXXX being similar to SCP-012.

**Test 1 - 12/13/17 **

Subject: D-Class 124
Procedure: D-Class 124 was placed in a 10 x 10m plexiglass room to test the effects of the recently discovered SCP-XXXX. Once D-Class 124 started to read SCP-XXXX, he continued to read SCP-XXXX for a total of 11 hours.
Results: D-Class 124 read SCP-XXXX for 11 hours.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX is harmless and will be classified safe and non-sentient by Mr. Ross.

**Test 2 - 12/13/17 **

Subject: "Radio" the Gorilla
Procedure: SCP-XXXX was handed to Radio the Gorilla to test if SCP-XXXX affected other sentient creatures. Radio read SCP-XXXX for 5 hours, ate a banana, and then fell asleep immediately after.
Results: SCP-XXXX has been shown to affect other sentient and intelligent creatures.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX is completely safe.
