Item #: SCP-4956
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4956 is to be held within an object locker. Access to the locker and SCP-4956 must be approved by the O-5 council.
Description: SCP-4956 is a cubic device painted white. The device is one cubic meter in size with one face of the cube housing an interface and an electronically operated door and another face with a USA (Type B) outlet, a USB port, and a thick cable that ends with three metal prongs. The interface is composed of a small electronic screen, a button that says "open", a button that says "close-lock", and a button that says "analyze".
When SCP-4956 is powered with 300 watts the screen will light up with a message saying "wait". After 10-30 seconds of idle time, the screen will say "ready" and the "open" button will light up. If the "open" button is pressed then the door shall open revealing that the inside of the device is hallowed leaving an eight cubic decimeter space. The walls of the interior of SCP-4956 are lined with [DATA EXPUNGED] these are believed to be the mechanisms for disassembling objects. The device's door can be closed at any time with a press of the "close-lock" button.
When an item is placed into SCP-4956 and the "close-lock" button is pressed, the door closes, an audible click is heard, and the screen says "Please wait…". After a bit of time, the amount of time is determined by the complexity of the object, the interface returns a message saying that the "analysis" requires an amount of power. This amount is either reference in watts or "SE". It is currently unknown to the foundation what "SE" means.
The "analyze" button will light up if the device has access to the required power amount. If the "analyze" button is pressed with the required power the screen will say "Analyzing.." and a soft hum will emanate from the device. After a long amount of time, the amount of time is determined by the complexity of the object, a ding will be heard and the screen will blink "Download ready". If a USB cord has been connected to SCP-4956 and a data recording device a large amount of data will be loaded onto the data recording device.
The data received from SCP-4956 must be received in one download. If the download connection is terminated or there is no room left for the data then all data will be corrupted or lost. This includes information that was already downloaded from SCP-4956. The information received from SCP-4956 will be any information about the whole object that was analyzed inside of SCP-4956. This information ranges from pictures of the object, information recorded on the object, the history of the object, and many other details. What determines the level of detail and type of information provided from these analyses seem to come from the information wanted by any sentient creatures in the room at the time of analysis.
Current testing is being done to determine the capabilities of SCP-4956 and what applications the object can be used for. Research is also ongoing to see if the device can be recreated.
Addendum 4956 Retrieval Logs: SCP-4956 was retrieved at ████ ████████ on ██/██/ ████. The location is a small house in an enclosed forest area. After reports of people being found near the wooded area with a large chunk of their memories wiped the foundation launched an investigation on the area. Agents quickly found the house in the woods and prepared for an investigation. Agents entered the house and initially found nothing on the base floor. After the sweep of the base floor, a descending staircase was found. Agents descended and continued onto lower floors. On the fourth floor of the building, SCP-4956 was found. The device was found in a cardboard box with the box labeled "Jason Dunkin". Expeditions are continuously being conducted. Each expedition brings more anomalous things and information. Current expeditions have reached floor 28.
Addendum 4956 Test Logs:
Test log 1:
Object tested - None
Power provided - 300 Watts
Test Details: While an initial investigation of the SCP-4956 interface the analyze button was pressed and the device went off. After SCP-4956 was finished with its analysis a small txt. file was downloaded from the device. The txt. file was a brief message saying "I don't know who you are. You are not ██████ █ ███████. It doesn't matter. Put something inside me for some info. Its all I do anymore."
Test log 2:
Object tested - A small scrap of paper with the word "Hello" written in pen.
Power provided - 320 Watts
Test Details: The scrap of paper was inserted into the device. It took 5 minutes for the machine to give a power estimate. After the proper power was supplied and the "analyzed' button was pressed SCP-4956 took 45 minutes before it was ready to perform a data upload. The file uploaded came with multiple pictures of the scrap of paper under multiple filters. Multiple text files holding information like the history of the paper, the atomic composition of the paper, the text written on the paper, etc.
Test log 3:
Object tested - A small amount of liquid from SCP-████
Power provided - N/A
Test Details: The sample of liquid from SCP-████ was placed into the device. It took 40 minutes for the machine to give a power estimate. Power estimate 30 SE. Unable to continue test due to not enough power being able to be provided to SCP-4956.
Test log 4:
Object tested - A bottle of soda pop
Power provided - 445 Watts
Test Details: The bottle of liquid was placed into the SCP-4956. It took 12 minutes for the machine to give a power estimate. The analysis process started. After 1 hour 45 minutes the analysis was complete. The data upload was started however part way through the upload the USB cord failed. All data was lost. Note: Before each upload of data from SCP-4956 a new USB cord to be installed.
Addendum 4956 Testing Progress: The O-5 council has approved for more tests to be complete on SCP-4956. A sample from the three-pronged cable has been taken for testing. Current research has been focused on figuring out what "SE" means as well as a way to provide this power. As ordered by the O-5 council no SCP terminations are to be performed using SCP-4965.
