Item #: SCP-XXXX
Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be monitored at all times with security cameras and drones from site██. From within the site a series of timers must be monitored at all times by at least two personnel. Any malfunction in the timers is to be reported immediately to maintenance personnel. The timers are automatically reset after every pulse. The time between each pulse is to be logged. After every pulse, a team is to walk the perimeter and measure the pulse’s new radius. Absolutely no organic material is allowed within the radius of SCP-XXXX without authorization from the site director. Following Incident XXXX-Beta any attempt to damage SCP-XXXX is strictly forbidden. Any personnel who conspire to damage SCP-XXXX no matter how minor the damage or how high up the chain of command will be demoted to D-Class.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a tower approximately [REDACTED] kilometers from the town of [REDACTED]. The tower is 61 meters high and resembles a telephone tower. However, the actual composition of the tower is unknown. SCP-XXXX’s primary anomalous property is the blood red pulse it sends out at ever decreasing intervals and increasing distances. The pulses SCP-XXXX generates vaporizes all organic matter including plant life. The pulses vaporize the organic matter instantly and leaves no trace behind.
Discovery: On ██/██/████ three agents of the Foundation embedded in the FBI assigned themselves to a mass missing persons case in [REDACTED]. The town’s chief of police called the FBI for assistance when thirteen teenagers and three young adults went missing while hiking in the nearby woods. The missing persons rate was too high for the area, so the Foundation agents, equipped with body cameras, joined the search. Agent [EXPUNGED], a police officer, and five rescue volunteers found the clothing and personal possessions of the missing teenagers and young adults in a dead field. Three of the volunteers made comments of interest before the clothing was discovered. One said she did not think the dead field should exist because the woods go on for miles. The second picked up a handful of dirt and said the soil seemed off. The third pointed out a telephone tower that he did not remember being there. When the clothing and personal items of the missing were discovered, the police officer began work to ensure the preservation of the crime scene. Agent [EXPUNGED] called his fellow agents instead of the police dispatcher. Before the two agents arrived, Agent [EXPUNGED], the police officer, and the volunteers were vaporized in what would become known as an SCP-XXXX pulse. After reviewing the body camera footage, the Foundation sent a team to the town. Through a combination of amnestics and falsified documents, the twenty-two civilian victims of SCP-XXXX appeared to have died of non-anomalous means, accepted out of town jobs, ran away, or went to college in another state. The team then established site██ and began testing of SCP-XXXX.
Test XXXX-01: Animal testing. The animals listed below were placed in the radius of SCP-XXXX. In every animal test the animal was completely vaporized down to the molecular level. Note: non-organic material such as cages, leashes, and collars are not affected. Animals tested: cow, horse, deer, pig, boar, orangutan, dog, cat, rabbit, raccoon, mice. See attached document for details on animal testing.
Incident XXXX-Alpha: approximately [EXPUNGED] after containment Agent [EXPUNGED] was on patrol around the perimeter of SCP-XXXX’s radius. Before the incident a chain-link fence was erected around the radius. The agent stopped for a smoke break and leaned against a post. At that time a pulse emitted. The pulse vaporized Agent [EXPUNGED]’s back and the back of his head, killing him instantly. It was then discovered that the radius of SCP-XXXX was slowly increasing as the time between pulses diminished. The containment procedures were updated after the incident. After the incident, the population of [REDACTED] was evacuated under the illusion of a forest fire destroying the town. The incident also acted as the first unofficial human test (dubbed Test XXXX-02-0) as it determined that the pulses could vaporize organic material only partially if only part of them was within the radius.
Test XXXX-02: Human Testing A-D. Eight D-class personnel were selected for human testing on SCP-XXXX.
D-XXXX-02-A was instructed to stand 3 meters inside the radius of SCP-XXXX three minutes before a pulse. After D-XXXX-02-A was vaporized, his clothing and glasses fell to the ground, unaffected.
D-XXXX-02-B was instructed to walk toward the tower while chain smoking. After five minutes the pulse vaporized her mid-puff. The cigarette, like her clothes, was unaffected. Note: the smoke in her mouth and lungs were also affected.
D-XXXX-02-C was instructed to chug a drink of his choice while standing one meter inside the radius. D-XXXX-02-C chose an energy drink. Before he was halfway finished the pulse vaporized him. The can and remaining drink were unaffected, but the liquid in his mouth, throat, and stomach was vaporized. Note: The leading theory from this and the previous test is that ingested material is considered to be part of the body and is therefore vaporized along with the organic material.
D-XXXX-02-D was instructed to eat a granola bar just inside the radius. Before eating the granola bar, D-XXXX-02-D was instructed to swallow a locker key. When he was vaporized, the key was found, but the granola bar was vaporized. Note: An update to the theory is that the ingested material has to be something that would normally be taken in by the test subject.
Authorization for more D-Class to test other ingested materials such as alcohol, medication, and narcotics pending approval.
Test XXXX-02: Human Testing E-H. The remaining four D-Class were used to test SCP-XXXX directly.
D-XXXX-02-E was instructed to walk toward the tower with [REDACTED] time before the next pulse. He was fitted with a camera and radio. Nothing of note for the hike to the tower until the 91 meter mark. After D-XXXX-02-E stepped within 91 meters, a pulse emitted from the tower, leaving behind his clothes, camera, and radio after he was vaporized. The next pulse was not scheduled to go off for [REDACTED]. The pulse also only reached the 91 meter mark. The pulse within 91 meter mark will here on be referred to as the secondary pulse.
D-XXXX-02-F was instructed to move toward the tower; she approached from the east to avoid her coming into contact with the clothes and equipment from D-XXXX-02-E south of the anomaly. She was fitted with a camera and radio. She carried with her a cage full of mice. Nothing of note for the hike to the tower. Just before the 91 meter mark, D-XXXX-02-F was instructed to throw the cage full of mice into the 91 meter perimeter. A secondary pulse vaporized the mice like the previous D-class, but did not affect D-XXXX-02-F standing just outside 91 meters. The D-class was then instructed to run toward the tower. After assurances of her safety and a slew of obscene language on her part, she ran into the perimeter. D-XXXX-02-F was vaporized by the secondary pulse despite the secondary pulse having just activated to vaporize the mice.
D-XXXX-02-G was assigned for this test due to his experience as a pilot. The helicopter he was instructed to pilot was armed with a kill switch to prevent any attempted escape. D-XXXX-02-G was instructed to fly directly toward SCP-XXXX and to maintain an altitude above that of the tower at all times. When the helicopter passed the 91 meter mark, despite being above the pulse, a secondary pulse still emitted from SCP-XXXX, vaporizing D-XXXX-02-G. The helicopter crashed within 91 meters of the tower and was therefore ordered abandoned by the site director.
D-XXXX-02-H skydived toward SCP-XXXX to test how high the tower would emit a secondary pulse. After activating his parachute, D-XXXX-02-H attempted to land directly on top of the tower. However, after passing within 91 meters above the tower, SCP-XXXX emitted a pulse to vaporize him. His clothes and parachute were unaffected.
Entry from the personal log of Director [EXPUNGED] found after Incident XXXX-Beta regarding human testing post D-XXXX-02-H: Further attempts to reach SCP-XXXX with D-Class are terminated. We need to try something else. I may be in for it from my superiors after this, but I think I will take a page out of the Global Occult Coalition’s playbook.
Incident XXXX-Beta (formerly Test XXXX-03: Damage Trials): Six security personnel were ordered to set up just outside the 91 meter barrier by Director [EXPUNGED]. They were armed with a mortar, 2 RPGs, a .50 caliber machine gun, and .50 caliber sniper rifle. The Director ordered the weapons fired upon SCP-XXXX in order to test its durability and to possibly destroy what he called “the most dangerous Keter anomaly I have knowledge of.” The arms fire did not have any effect on SCP-XXXX even though the combined firepower should have been more than enough to destroy the anomaly. Director [EXPUNGED] ordered a second volley to be fired on the tower. Before the second volley could be fired a special pulse emitted from SCP-XXXX. The special pulse wiped out the team even though they were past the secondary pulse line and another pulse wasn’t scheduled to emit. The special pulse also kept going past the known radius of SCP-XXXX. The special pulse hit site██, vaporizing over half the personnel on site. It did not vaporize all organic material or all personnel. It only vaporized those personnel who were involved with Test XXXX-03. Director [EXPUNGED] was among those vaporized. The possibility of SCP-XXXX sentience is now being reviewed.
Following Incident XXXX-Beta, the new director updated the containment procedures and suspended testing on SCP-XXXX until further notice. All surviving personnel were transferred due to existential dread, survivor’s guilt, and trauma.
From the new Site Director [EXPUNGED] to 05 Command: Going through the files from the previous staff, my staff discovered a list of theories as to the origin of SCP-XXXX and what will happen when the pulses are constant. The authors of the theories died in Incident XXXX-Beta; if SCP-XXXX is sentient, one of those theories could be true. I request investigations be opened for the most likely and countermeasures be created for each.
From 05 Command to Site Director [EXPUNGED]: Request pending approval.
