Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in a 1.0x0.5x0.5m plastic box with a reflective coating on the inside. The coating serves to ensure that the whole container is lit and so that no cracks exist from which SCP-XXXX can escape.
There are 4 spotlights at the top, directed towards SCP-XXXX at the bottom of the box. Each spotlight is hooked up to a separate generator, so that if a generator would fail; there is still 3 spotlights keeping the box lit.
At the top of the box there is also a surveillance camera observing SCP-XXXX at all times, and a secure 0.1x0.1x0.1m hatch used for carrying out experiments.
If an experiment is to involve a subject reaching into the box; they are to roll up their sleeve above the elbow as to not cast a shadow between the arm and the sleeve.
In case SCP-XXXX is to escape containment; emergency lighting is to be turned on throughout the facilities. Class C personnel and higher are to change into reflective clothing. Projectile weapons have no effect on SCP-XXXX; security personnel are therefore instructed to walk class D personnel infront of them with handheld spotlights directed on their backs to lure SCP-XXXX out of the shadows.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 2D black shadow blob with a non-existent mass. It can only move and change shape in a shadow. Approximations of its maximum size is less than ███m, although that is only based on the observations of the different shapes that SCP-XXXX has taken during containment.
The speed at which SCP-XXXX can move has been tested, but no number has been set. It always appears in the next place no matter how short the duration it spends in darkness.

When SCP-XXXX comes in contact with a human subject's shadow, or has a shadow covered path to one, it will appear to remove the subject's shadow by suction. This process makes no sound, except for the screams made by the subject as it clutches its head. The subject survives the process, but its shadow is gone and its dopamine center in the brain is destroyed. This often results in the subject attempting to take its own life within ██h of the event. Any dopamine supplied through artificial means seems to become toxic to the subject and it will die in pain within █h of administration.
If the subject is clincally depressed before exposure, then SCP-XXXX will not perform it's usual behaviour. This points to that the removing of the subject's shadow could be a side effect of the method SCP-XXXX uses to absorb the subject's dopamine. More testing is needed to ascertain the parameters of this behaviour.
