Item #: SCP-3583

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Strict and absolute adherence to all of the below mentioned containment procedures is of the utmost priority as any sort of breach or unprotected exposure will result in full lock down of the containment block.

The object is to kept within a sealed and pressurized, cylindrically shaped capsule, the inner lining of which coated in a 20cm thick layer of Lead.

The larger cell in which the capsule resides, is also lined with a 1-meter thick layer of Lead and sealed with a reinforced steel vault door, secured by a biometric scanner and 6-digit code lock. The code is to be changed once every 2 weeks.

Due to the extreme radioactive nature of the object, maintenance and replacement of the storage capsule is required 4 times a month. During these operations, a team of NO MORE THAN TWO (2) D-Class hazardous material personnel must transfer the material into a new containment capsule. Careful handling of the object is also imperative. Maintence personnel are to be equipped with appropriate anti-radiation suits and Geiger meters.

Personnel are to not, at any point when the object is between capsules, look directly at it. Failure to adhere to this may result in permanent damage to the optic nerve.

If at any point during the transfer procedure does either meter peak the maximum value for a period longer than ten (10) seconds, both individuals are to immediately evacuate the cell and be replaced by another team of two to complete the process.

Additional and constant monitoring of background Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation level is required and should not exceed a reading of .16rem per day. After an increase of above .16rem, all personnel assigned to the object are to be evaluated and immediately transported to Site-133 for immediate termination. The entirety of the cell is to then be scrubbed and decontaminated before new staff is assigned.

Description:

The object, which will from this point simply be referred to as 3583, is a spherically shaped object of an unknown elemental composition. Research staff has determined that 3583 measures roughly 13-centimeters in circumference. Attempts to measure the weight of the object have not been successful. Previous attempts to weigh 3583 have resulted in the severe damage of the scales due to the intense radiation it produces.

SCP-3583 has been confirmed to composed of an unstable, highly radioactive material, peaking at over 15,000 Roentgens an hour. It is believed that the intense amount of Gamma radiation is also responsible for the low-intensity greenish glow that some maintenance personnel have reported observing.

3583 was discovered on 06/17/2018 within the primary reaction chamber of [REDACTED] Nuclear power plant. Investigative teams that were dispatched to the site pointed to 3583 possibly being the cause behind the [REDACTED] disaster on [REDACTED].
