Containment Procedures

Object is to be stored in a typical garage, with on-site access to a certified mechanic who is outside of SCP-4257's anomalous influence. The keys belonging to the object, SCP-4257-a, are to be kept in a locked safe. All instances of SCP-4257-b are to be incinerated unless used for testing. All males of age ranging from 16 years to 25 years should be kept away from SCP-4257, SCP-4257-a, or SCP-4257-b, except during testing by D-class personel. An oval shaped track is located near the storage site, to be used while testing SCP-4257.

Description

SCP-4257 appears as 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI sedan, painted in the "World Rally Blue Pearl" color with golden rally wheels, and nothing to differentiate it from non-anomalous Subaru Imprezas from 2004. Mechanically, SCP-4257 is equipped with a twin-turbo 2.5 L (152.5 in³) horizontally-opposed 4 cylinder motor, mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. SCP-4257 slightly differs from a stock Impreza WRX STI, as this one is equipped with a slightly larger intercooler, less restrictive cold air intake, and a free flowing exhaust system. No brand names have been located on any of these modified components. At the time of acquisition by the Foundation, SCP-4257 was registered in New Hampshire, with plate number ███ ████, the expiration tag dated ██/20██. SCP-4257 was acquired at the Auto Auction of ███ ███████, for $████. Sales records at the auction have proven that SCP-4257 had been in auction 5 seperate times, in 200█, 201█, 201█, 201█ and 201█, at the time of its recovery.

The first anomalous property of SCP-4257 is that its VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is constantly reshuffling. The reshuffling occurs every month, on the █th day of the month, which eventually coincides with the previous owner's birthday, ██/██/19██. Attempts to search SCP-4257's VIN through VIN databases such as CarFax have succeeded, and despite the reshuffling, the VIN numbers always link to SCP-4257. SCP-4257 had █ owners, and was purchased new in a dealership in ██████, Massachussets. The third owner was the first owner to register the car in New Hampshire. All owners appear to be deceased from vehicular accidents involving SCP-4257.

The second anomalous property relates to SCP-4257's bodywork. There is a small dent on the front-left quarter panel, and the headlights are fogged, due to exposure to natural UV radiation in the past. Defogging the headlights via polishing has proved to be successful. Attempts to fix the front-left quarter panel by conventional means to reshape the panel results in the panel gradually reforming the dent on its own approximately 10 to 30 minutes later. Attempts to remove the panel are successful. Attempts to re-install a new, different quarter panel are successful, however the new panel will recreate the original panel's dent, and will also change color to match the rest of the body if needed.

The third anomalous property relates to the creation of instances of SCP-4257-b. These instances will randomly spawn inside of SCP-4257's glovebox and/or center storage. SCP-4257-b itself can be 4 different items, listed in decreasing order of chance:

• A 28 g (1 US oz.) bag of chips, of █████ brand
• A 33 mL can of ████████ ███ soda
• A ████████ chocolate bar
• 0.37 g of marijuana in an airtight plastic bag

All items are completely normal. Subjects who consume these items claim they taste like their non-anomalous counterparts. Subjects who smoke the anomalous marijuana report feeling high, and claim that the marijuana isn't special. Only after 5 to 15 minutes after consumption does SCP-4257-b's anomalous properties emerge. Any subject who has consumed SCP-4257-b will have an urge to drive SCP-4257. They will become agressive. To date, 2 D-class personel had to be terminated due to their aggression after consuming SCP-4257-b. This enraged state subsides once the enraged subject sits down in SCP-4257's driver's seat.

SCP-4257's most potent anomaly occurs when any subject sits in the driver's seat. The strength of the anomaly's effect depends on the profile of the subject. The most strongely affected subjects are males between the ages of 16 to 25. The subject effected by SCP-4257 will show abnormaly high skill in operating a motor vehicle while driving SCP-4257. This includes subjects who have never driven a car, and subjects who are unfamiliar with the operating of a manual transmission (which SCP-4257 is equipped with). Extensive monitoring of the test subject shows that they have heightened adrenalin and testosterone levels while driving, as well as heightened brain activity in the ██████████ region. While driving, the car will begin to gradually increase in power and decrease in controlability. The longest any test subject has been able to drive the vehicle without crashing was █ hours and ██ minutes. The vehicle seemed to produce ████ horsepower (████ kW) after █ hours, which is physically impossible for the engine and transmission to handle, and well in excess of power figures reached during all dynamometer test (███ hp/███ kW at ████ RPM). At some point, all subjects will lose control of SCP-4257. This point depends on previous driving experience of the test subject. Losing control of SCP-4257 will always result in a fatal crash, due to the excessive speeds (in excess of ███ km/h). All passengers riding along while SCP-4257 is being driven will be in a state of exhiliration and happiness, and will make no attempts to stop or slow down the driver.

Once SCP-4257 is "totalled", it will remained in its destroyed state until it is placed in storage, away from human sight. At this point it will begin reconstitution, which lasts from 24 to 48 hours. Reconstitution will continue if a camera is present and recording the process however. During the car's reconstitution event, all lost pieces will instantly transport themselves into SCP-4257's vicinity, and re-attach themselves where needed. Only fluids such as coolant, oil and gasoline will not be reconstituted and must be supplied by someone.

SCP-4257-a is the car's key. It appears as a typical Subaru key from the early 2000's. SCP-4257-a causes a sentiment of excitement when held in a subject's hand or pockets. This excitement gives the subject an urge to drive SCP-4257. Once the keys are taken from the subject, the sentiment is gone. However, males between ages 16 to 25 will show rage at not being able to drive SCP-4257, similar to the effects of consuming SCP-4257-b. This rage will subside once the subject sits in the driver's seat of SCP-4257, or once the subject is rendered unconscious. Any key produced from SCP-4257-a becomes another instance of SCP-4257-a. Once destroyed by melting down, these instances lose all anomalous properties.

Testing

Test 4257α - Date: ██/██/20██

Subject: SCP-4257
Procedure: SCP-4257's two left wheels were removed, the hubs were attached to a hub dynamometer. SCP-4257 was put through its paces.
Results: SCP-4257 produces ███ hp (███ kW) at ████ RPM. This result is consistant with lightly modified examples of SCP-4257's non-anomalous counterparts.
Analysis: Anomalous capabilities cannot be measured through such means. SCP-4257's anomalous capabilities only manifest in certain conditions.

Test 4257β - Date: ██/██/20██

Subject: SCP-4257a, D-1159 (a 22 year old male)
Procedure: D-1159 was given SCP-4257a
Results: D-1159 began showing excitement. D-1159 was looking forward to driving SCP-4257. D-1159 was asked to return SCP-4257a. He began to show resistance. Eventually, an armed guard wrestled SCP-4257a from D-1159, who entered into a state of rage. D-1159 was rendered unconscious from a blow by the armed guard's baton. D-1159 was restrained. Once D-1159 regained unconscious, he expressed no anger or desire to drive SCP-4257.
Analysis: SCP-4257a has memetic properties that influence the minds of those in possession of it, wanting its user to drive SCP-4257.

Test 4257γ - Date: ██/██/20██

Subject: SCP-4257b, D-1369 (a 44 year old male)
Procedure: D-1369 was given an instance of SCP-4257b, a chocolate bar.
Results: As D-1369 chewed on the chocolate bar, the D-class observed the chocolate bar tasted nice. D-1369 then asked if his task was complete, to which Dr.██████ replied no. D-1369 asked what was so special about the chocolate, Dr.██████ told D-1369 to stop asking questions. D-1369 complied. After 7 minutes, D-1369 began asking about SCP-4257, referring it as "my car". Dr,██████ informed D-1369 that SCP-4257 is not "your car". D-1369 reacted with rage, attempting to smash through the observation station. D-1369 began physically assaulting the armed guards that entered the testing chamber, biting one of the guards' left ear off. D-1369 was terminated via gunshot to the stomach.
Analysis: SCP-4257b also shows memetic properties that influence the minds of those in possession of it, wanting its user to drive SCP-4257. However, rather than being excited at the percieved opportunity to drive SCP-4257, subjects will become enraged at being denied the chance of driving SCP-4257. The only means of calming afflicted subjects is by letting them drive SCP-4257 or by terminating the subject.

Test 4257δ - Date: ██/██/20██

Subject: SCP-4257, D-1287 (a 19 year old male), D-1806 (a 28 year old female)
Procedure: D-1287 was allowed to drive SCP-4257 in the designated track.
Summary: D-1287 sat in the driver's seat of SCP-4257. D-1806 sat next to him. D-1287 was instructed to drive SCP-4257 in any way he'd like. It is worth noting D-1287 did not have much experience driving, as he lost his license 7 months after acquiring it. His limited driving experience did not include any vehicle with a manual transmission. Despite that, as D-1287 drove, he was observed performing various powerslides, drifts and shifting with precision rivaling that of computer controlled dual-clutch systems in modern performance vehicles. D-1806 was shouting of excitement and encouraged D-1287 to do more reckless driving. The car's speed only kept increasing, as the percieved power output of the car increased. After ██ minutes, the car attained 230 km/h, before D-1287 lost control. The resulting crash terminated both D-class personnel.
Results: SCP-4257 "inspires" its driver with high levels of driving skill. However, SCP-4257 also gradually makes itself harder to control, to a point where the driver, even with his heightened skill, cannot control to car. The higher skill level depends on the driver's previous experiences with cars. SCP-4257's source of additional power is yet to be determined, however, it should be noted that mechanical components such as the engine, transmission, differentials and driveshafts on SCP-4257 have regularly been seen surpassing their stress threshold while SCP-4257 is driving. Testing may be done in the future to find out the true limits of these components.
