Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5640 is located in northeast of Brazil, near the city of [DATA EXPUNGED]. It is situated in an isolated and abandoned ranch, with an underground military base that connects to a man made pit where SCP-5640 resides.
Due to SCP-5640 size, containment has been enacted on-site. The surrounding land has been purchased, and at least thirty members of the task force are to be stationed alongside the perimeter undercovered to keep people out of the area. Small seismic activities detected in the region are to be blamed on tectonic plates by infiltrated agents. Tests with cattle are to be interrupted to avoid further growth of SCP-5640. No personnel are to be allowed inside the house and any civilians found near the ranch are to be captured and released upon application of Class-B Amnestics.
Description: The entity came to the attention of the Foundation after sensors discovered a tremor of 4.6 at Richter’s scale on 19/09/1997. Tracking it to the epicenter revealed an isolated ranch with only one house at the coordinates of [DATA EXPUNGED]. A mobile task force discovered SCP-5640 underneath the construction, inside a pit.
Upon entering the underground tunnel electrical light sources stop working and subjects reported human voices calling them inside the walls. Audio recordings do not confirm the vocalizations. Lights outside the visible spectrum, such as infrared-based night vision googles works well. Very few subjects passed out and later reported dreaming with SCP-5640.
The entity has 110 meters of length, 75 meters of width and approximately 40 meters of height, occupying almost all space of the pit of 50 meters. SCP-5640 is a mass of dark-green flesh, which emanates a smell like rotten meat. It produces specialized contractions upon twice per week that are the cause of the small tremors of the region. Tests with cattle revealed that upon contact with any living organism it will proceed to consume it completely and grown in size. It is them able to create SCP-5640-01, masses of flesh made of binded human and animal limbs, linked to SCP-5640 via an umbilical cord, to move freely in the underground.
It was discovered that the site was used during the authoritarian military regime in Brazil (1964-1985), but due to the burn of the archives by the dictatorship little to no information was found about the entity. It is speculated that it was used by the Death Squadrons of DOPS (brazilian repressive police) to vanish with those who oppose the regime, since it was found partly destroyed documents about students, syndical leaders, deserters, communists and other people that were captured and lead by the military to the site.
It is also speculated that it was once human, or at least it had a humanoid overweight male form since a note that was left at the site with the documents reads (translated from portuguese):
“What we are doing here is a blasphemy! We are feeding that man in the pit with innocent people, and its growing larger and larger. And after all that, everything that he heard, echoing, trembling the walls, is its stomach, demanding more.”
Researcher Chagas was elected to oversee the initial experiments to better understand the growth of SCP-5640, and if poses a threat to humanity. Upon tests with cattle the entity mutated, undergoing radical changes to it physicality. Three yellow limbs made from human arms stretched out to the cow dragging it to a lateral opening with human teeth that proceed to dismember and disembowel the animal. After 6-8 hours SCP-5640 is back to its slumber state, with parts of the animal still alive and in great distress popping out from its surface. During the period of one week it slowly assimilated its flesh, and them it proceeded to grown in size relatively to the mass consumed.
It is unknown why SCP-5640 keeps its victim alive during all the assimilation process. But it is speculated that it was used by the authoritarian regime to interrogate the victim. That reinforce the possibility that it may have been created by the dictatorship to torture political prisoners.
After three tests with cattle, SCP-5640 created four yellow limbs in the lateral of its body from his own flesh and tried to exit the pit. After failing five times due to its size, it went back to its slumber state. After the period of one month without contact with any living organism, it started its contractions again, causing small tremors of 2.5 to 3.0 at the Richter’s scale in the region.
A neutralization attempt was approved and team B-55 “Smoking Snake” was mobilized. Upon termination attempt with fire, SCP-5640 contractions reached a peak of 4.8 at Richter’s Scale, with the entity recovering soon after.
Team B-55 was them ambushed by two SCP-5640-01, a mass of flesh formed by human and animal limbs linked to SCP-5640 via an umbilical cord. The creatures dig into the walls and attacked the team when they were distracted with the tremors, leading to the death of B-55-01. Cutting the cord revealed an efficient way to kill SCP-5640-01, that just collapse in place. Unfortunately the team was not able to recover the bodys of B-55-01 and SCP-5640-01 and retreated immediately.
3 hours after the earthquake stopped a drone was sent underground and found a blood trail leading to the end of the corridor where SCP-5640 resides. It is speculated that the surviving SCP-5640-01 took the two body’s to the entity. Audio recordings registered human screams. Upon arriving in the pit SCP-5640 was found assimilating both the two SCP-5640-01 and B-55-01 that was in great distress.
Another drone was sent underground to watch any sudden change in the slumber state of SCP-5640 while a research team was mobilized to collect samples. They were told to avoid confrontation and approach of SCP-5640 at all costs. Medical data revealed an abnormal growth of mucous, parietal and chief cells in SCP-5640. Those are the same epithelial cells in a human stomach. Blood samples and pieces of meat were analyzed, revealing animal and human DNA. Some were identified relating to 3 missing persons in 1969, 1972 and 1974. It is believed that this information correlates directly with the Years of the Lead (1968-1974) during the dictatorship that increased the repression and the disappearances.
Other neutralizations attempts are to be suspended to avoid further big earthquakes.
It is confirmed that without contact with living organisms to assimilate, SCP-5640 will avoid the loss of mass. It will not manipulate its flesh nor create others SCP-5640-01 and its reach will significantly decrease, unless it is in danger. The entity will keep making contractions twice per week, causing small tremors.
SCP-5640 is to be declared SAFE as long as it remains inside the pit.
