Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe (Cognitohazard)
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a storage container at Site-70. SCP-XXXX is susceptible to high temperatures and fire. Open flame should be kept from SCP-XXXX outside of testing environment. Failure to comply can lead to a possible containment breach.
The testing environment is to be an air tight chamber. Oxygen is to be removed and replaced from the room 40 minutes from start of test. Other than the test subject (s) being in the environment no other personnel are to be present during testing. Audio and visual recording devices are to be placed in the environment. Means of communication from researchers to subjects should be from electronic or wireless means.
Addendum 1.1: Oxygen is to be taken from the room into containment for further research.
Description: SCP-XXXX are a collection of candles in a box. One dozen (12) candles make up SCP-XXXX. The objects come packaged in a grey wooden box measuring 23 cm x 15 cm x 5 cm. No markings identify the origins of SCP-XXXX, but writing on the box describes SCP-XXXX as “Emotionally Scented”.
Contained in the box are twelve candles varying in color and scent. Each candle has been designated SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-12. Each candle is individually labelled. Contained inside are two sheets of paper, designated SCP-XXXX-L1 and SCP-XXXX-I1. SCP-XXXX-L1 is an information leaflet describing the product.
Acquiring more candles is achieved by simply filling out an order form and leaving it in the box, empty. Once the box is closed with the form inside, through unknown means, the box fills the order. Attempts at examining the box during this event have resulted in failure. SCP-XXXX will fulfill the order only if the order form is the only object in the box. Order forms are any piece of paper with writing on it with requests for more of SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX-I1 is a list of each candle. This list contains the color, scent and the label of each one. (See attachment-1.)
SCP-XXXX does not show anomalous properties when not lit. Subjects can hold, see, taste, and smell the object without experiencing any anomalous effects. Once a candle is lit and its aroma has time to occupy the space, subjects will start to experience mild to severe audio and visual hallucinations. The duration of the hallucinations average 25-30 minutes. Shorter and longer durations have been recorded.
The hallucinations are dependent upon which designation of SCP-XXXX is lit. Testing has revealed that the hallucinations are of the subjects own memories, or if they cannot recall any, fake memories are supplanted.
Subjects have described SCP-XXXX effects from enjoyable to “torture”. As each subject experiences a unique response to SCP-XXXX, consistent results are difficult to record and analyze.
