Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The area around SCP-XXXX is to be closed off with two (2) metres high barbed wire fence to deter civilian entry. Every ten metres a sign reading "DANGER: UNSTABLE GROUND" is to be mounted on the fence.
At least one (1) armed guard is to be posted at the entrance to Site XXXX and no fewer than two (2) armed personnel for every 500 m to patrol the perimeter. SCP-XXXX is not to be entered unless testing is in progress, for the safety of all personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a stretch of urban road with a 'kangaroo crossing' sign (referred to as the activation point). Once a manned vehicle fully crosses (back end of the vehicle over the line), the vehicle will hit what appears to be a hitchhiker, which is an apparition generated by SCP-XXXX (designated SCP-XXXX-1) observed to be between 20-34 years of age, who is attempting to cross the road. Currently, no known methods can avoid hitting SCP-XXXX-1. Once the SCP-XXXX-1 has been hit, the driver will have a strong urge to either leave it or help it (these feelings reflect the character of the person). No anomalous behaviour occurs when the activation point is crossed on foot, or with any non-motor vehicle, and the road will end in unfinished construction 1.5 kilometres from the activation point.
Upon helping SCP-XXX-1 will have at most 2 minor injuries, along with 1 major injury (usually a broken arm or leg) and will scream/vocalise pain. Once inside the vehicle, it will tell travellers in the vehicle that the road is a dead-end. It will request to be taken to the nearest hospital, which the Foundation has since taken over, to 'treat its wounds'. Once SCP-XXXX-1 cannot be seen by anyone, (going around corners, going to the bathroom, no-one present in the ward), SCP-XXXX-1 will vanish and reappears at the activation point, no means of preventing this shift has been found. The personnel in the vehicle normally report feeling righteous and claim to be a good person, it is unknown if these effects are anomalous or not. Once this has been completed, all personnel in the car at the time of meeting SCP-XXXX-1 will not be able to reenter SCP-XXXX. Any attempt to get the person to cross the activation point will be met with pleading to leave, preceding physical violence if the person is obstructed from leaving the vehicle before entering.
Upon leaving SCP-XXXX-1 on the road, the driver, any passengers and the vehicle will be displaced into a pocket dimension overlapping with the real-world equivalent, resembling the road where the displacement occurs. No visual change can be observed, but victims normally feel slightly nauseous following the displacement. Victims usually remain unaware of the displacement, until later or when informed. When the vehicle leaves a circle 10 m in diameter around SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX is now active. The pocket dimension road will have no reachable end, during its active state. The road will still experience a day-night cycle and normal weather patterns. Disabling SCP-XXXX’s active state is only possible when every current victim is expired or if SCP-XXXX deems the offending victim (whoever chose to leave SCP-XXXX-1) 'worthy'. The person must meet certain criteria to be deemed worthy; Remorse for leaving SCP-XXXX-1 to die, Sacrifice for the good of other victims or showing righteousness (putting others first, etc.).
Once the criteria have been met, the personnel will be displaced back to the activation point. Any attempts to exit the vehicle during the journey does not result in being displaced back into our reality. During the on-foot journey, multiple other vehicles will pass the person by, no means can get the 'driver's' attention (see Exploration Log XXXX-2). Personnel will also perceive containers of supplies they need (food, water, fuel, etc.), however, every instance of these containers will be empty/damaged beyond any use. Eventually, victims stuck along the road will succumb to starvation/dehydration or fear, often curling up into fetal position before death. Bodies of previously expired personnel can be located, however, area at different distances along the road to when they expired. Any items dropped by or previously interacted with said personnel can also be located and remain in the same state as they were left in, these items will also be at different distances along the road.
