heading level 1
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP is to be stored in the confines of Sector-B of Site-98, and it is not to be directly held by any personnel while outside of a secure container, except when conducting research related to SCP. Although SCP has not displayed any sorts of behaviors that would suggest it is capable of escaping containment on its own, its nature makes it extremely desirable to any group or organization that might find out about its existence and nature. For that same reason, knowledge of SCP's existence and nature leaving Site-98 in any form should be considered an alpha-level priority security breach, prompting mobile task forces to be dispatched immediately for the purpose of swiftly and utterly eliminating all forms of documentation and human knowledge of SCP. Lethal force against humans with such knowledge should only be used as a last resort, if amnesiacs cannot be administered without risking further security breaches.
SCP-1 is to be housed in a standard humanoid containment cell under minimal security and observation in Sector-B2 of Site-98. Food, water, clean clothes, and any other necessities are to be provided to SCP-1 without exception. Due to SCP-1's complete lack of resistance upon detainment, it is to be provided with any creature comforts that it may request, within reason. This may include books, writing material, art supplies, a desktop computer not connected to the internet, movies, or any other suppliers upon site approval. A minimum of one staff member is to be appointed for the purposes of providing printed copies of any information requested by SCP-1 which can only be found, within a reasonable amount of time, through the internet. This privilege is only to be provided while SCP-1 remains compliant with all requests from on-site researchers.
Access to SCP for the purposes of research and implementation of its effects must be submitted to and approved by the acting Asst. Director of Research of Site-98. Any personnel using SCP must possess level 3 security clearance or higher and be accompanied by three or more other personnel with equal or greater clearance level.
Description: SCP is a spherical mass of a yet unidentified material, measuring exactly 10 cm in diameter and weighing approximately 9 kg, making it nearly as dense as tungsten. Its surface is dark grey and smooth to the touch, with researchers noting it has a texture similar to fine satin or silk. It has also been noted that holding SCP in one’s bare hands tends to produce mild feelings of calm and contentment, resulting in a desire to continue holding SCP. It is uncertain if this effect is directly produced by SCP or if the reaction is simply due to human nature.
While a human holds SCP in their bare hands, they become able to see what is believed to be an alternate dimension while their eyes are closed. At any point during which their eyes are open, their perception of their environment is unchanged, only seeing our reality. Subjects report the experience as being as if their eyelids become windows to somewhere other than where they are standing, or as if they are wearing a virtual reality headset. The supposed alternate dimension, here referred to as SCP-2, is always described as being composed of flat, featureless terrain of the exact same color as SCP, with a bright, magenta-colored sky. Researchers have learned, through the cooperation of SCP-1, that focusing on a desire to be somewhere other than where you currently are will activate SCP, instantly teleporting its user to the exact point in SCP-2 perceived while their eyes were closed. Similarly, while holding SCP within SCP-2, its user will perceive our world while their eyes are closed, with researchers noting our world appearing to be frozen in time.
Any object on the user's person will be teleported along with the user. This effect extends to any objects which the user is touching with their free hand and "willing" to take with them to SCP-2, with their other hand still holding SCP. The limits to the size of such objects has been noted to be roughly 1000 cubic meters, again being confirmed by SCP-1. Any other humans in direct contact with the user upon activation of SCP will be teleported along with them so long as said user focuses on an intent to permit them into SCP-2. All previously noted effects and restrictions apply towards return to our reality from SCP-2,
requiring concentration on a desire to return “home” to teleport the user back to our world.
One of the most significant aspects of SCP-2 is its staggering time dilation effect with respect to our reality. Researchers have measured the ratio of the rate of the progression of time in our reality to that of SCP-2 to be 1 to 1024, meaning that 60 seconds in our reality equates to over 17 hours within SCP-2. This explains why our world appears to be "frozen in time" from within SCP-2. Furthermore, traveling any distance in SCP-2 in a straight line, and then reappearing in our reality, will cause the user to materialize 8 times that distance away from the location at which they initially left our reality. This has led researchers to theorize every point on the surface of SCP-2 correlates to a coordinate on earth, with SCP-2 being a 1:8 scale of Earth in size. This theory was later confirmed by SCP-1 when asked.
SCP-1 is a relatively typical human male with an apparent age of around 12 year as of the time of his detainment. His exact age cannot be easily quantified due the effects of his regular use of SCP over the course of more than a year, prior to his detainment. The most notable characteristic of SCP-1 is his effective age, having spent a minimum of 8 hours per day, relative to our reality, in SCP-2, typically while his parents thought he was sleeping. According to SCP-1’s account, he has experienced over 400 years of life since he started regularly visiting SCP-2, making SCP-1 one of the oldest living humans on the planet.
Upon questioning, SCP-1 confirmed he did not age while within SCP-2, although his need for food, water, and sleep remained unchanged. Researchers visiting SCP-2 have yet to show any signs of this anti-aging effect. This has been attributed to the limited amount of time individual researchers have spent in SCP-2.
Discoverry: The discovery of SCP's existence began as a result of investigations into unusual occurrences in the town of -, Washington. Assessment of local police reports showed a sudden spike in reported thefts, beginning -/-/-, occuring on a daily basis, with the vast majority of thefts seeming to take place at night. These reports also indicate a complete lack of any signs of forced entry, damage to property, or any other typical signs of trespassing and robbery. Further investigation of police reports in neighboring towns showed similar spikes in theft around the same time, all of which leaving virtually no trace of the supposed robber.
Field agents disguised as U.S. federal agents entered the city of - soon after the Foundation was made aware of the situation. Unfortunately, due to the rural nature of the town and the mostly analogue means of record-keeping used by local law enforcement, field agents were not deployed until nearly 8 months following the first reported anonymous theft. Upon arrival, questioning of local law enforcement led to the discovery that the reported theft had returned to normal levels nearly 5 months prior, with the local investigation into the anomalous thefts having ended due to the lack of leads and evidence.
