Item #: SCP-4XXX
Object Class: Euclid [Add Reclass and event later!!!]
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be surrounded by a 15m high barbed wire fence all around it’s perimeter. All roads to SCP-4XXX are to be demolished and rerouted. GPS and Satellite imaging around SCP-4XXX are to show a fabricated image of a military base. Every month 3 D-class personnel are to be sent into SCP-4XXX for testing purposes Personnel are forbidden to enter SCP-4XXX unless terminally ill or scheduled for execution. Any personnel with a background in theology are forbidden to visit SCP-4XXX, the 3 anomalous objects related to SCP-4XXX, or to read this file. 5 guards are to be posted around the perimeter of SCP-4XXX and tasked with preventing anyone from entering it. Any personnel exiting SCP-4XXX are to be terminated unless part of a testing group. Any objects found near SCP-4XXX are to be relocated to [site location]. Guards are to be switched out weekly, and any who have come into contact with objects near SCP-4XXX are to be terminated. During the event of a containment breach Nitrogen Dioxide gas weapons are to be utilized in neutralizing any hostile entities.
Description: SCP-4XXX is a chapel in the Southern United States. The chapel is approximately 70 years old, and was constructed with a combination of lumber and bricks. The chapel has 8 stained-glass windows -two on each side-, and the entrance is blocked by two 25x5m doors constructed from oak wood and brass. The chapel's exact size is impossible to accurately quantify, as the building shrinks and expands during regular intervals, but the estimated average size is 400m squared. SCP-4XXX was discovered after reports of an entire town vanishing reached foundation operatives in [REDACTED]. All the buildings were incinerated with the exception of SCP-4XXX. The police force sent to search for survivors went missing, and the local military squadron went missing shortly after as well. SCP-4XXX was successfully contained in [REDACTED] with cooperation from the Global Occult Coalition, United States Government, and the SCP Foundation.
SCP-4XXX consists of three instances, hereby referred to as SCP-4XXX-1, SCP-4XXX-2, and SCP-4XXX-3. SCP-4XXX-1 is an anomalous group of 80-120 people who are believed to be constantly present in SCP-4XXX. Attempts to confirm this have failed, as all recording information malfunctions unless a non-anomalous subject is currently inside SCP-4XXX. SCP-4XXX-1 will enter an active state when a non-anomalous subject is introduced. While in an active state, SCP-4XXX-1 will participate in a mass that has no exact replica in real-world religions, although sharing many similarities with christian and fifthist [add footnote or link here] theology.
SCP-4XXX-2 is a preacher that leads SCP-4XXX-1 in a "mass" during it's active state. SCP-4XXX-2 is a caucasian male around 50-60 years old. As of [Event], SCP-4XXX-2 is currently [PoI from Event]. SCP-4XXX-2 wears purple vestments that although described as "vaguely christian in appearance", have not been traced to an exact source or manufacturer. SCP-4XXX-2 and SCP-4XXX-1 are impossible to kill through traditional means, and will respond aggressively to anybody "sinning" in SCP-4XXX. Its exact definition of "sin" is currently unknown, but is believed to be loosely based off of the 10 commandments. Anyone "sinning" in SCP-4XXX will be mauled to death by SCP-4XXX-1 and SCP-4XXX-2, with the exception of extreme circumstances. [Add footnote here].
SCP-4XXX-3 refers to a seemingly unlimited quantity of eucharist wafers and wine that are used in the "mass" by SCP-4XXX-1 and SCP-4XXX-2.
In light of [Event] SCP-4XXX-3 has been declared non-anomalous, although ingestion of SCP-4XXX-3-NA is still strongly discouraged. [Foreshadowing ;)]
Some instances of SCP-4XXX-1 will only appear at certain times, despite the fact that no instance of SCP-4XXX-1 has ever been seen entering or leaving SCP-4XXX.
Non-anomalous subjects entering SCP-4XXX will be instructed by SCP-4XXX-2, referred to colloquially as "Reverend", to sit in one of the 35 wooden pews in the chapel. SCP-4XXX-2 will then begin a "mass". SCP-4XXX-1 will participate flawlessly in the "mass", and are reported to be "like puppets". All outside stimuli are indecipherable from within SCP-4XXX. Although some electronic devices work within SCP-4XXX, they will almost always trigger a rage state, and are not advised. Handheld watches, Glasses, Life-Support devices (such as a pacemaker), and electronic devices with the sole purpose of assisting worship are the only known devices to not trigger a rage state in SCP-4XXX. [Footnote: Watches cannot properly tell time while inside SCP-4XXX]
If a subject in SCP-4XXX performs a ritual incorrectly too many times, refuses to participate in the mass, or commits a "sin", all SCP-4XXX-1 instances will maul the subject to death and present the body to SCP-4XXX-2. [[Footnote: the exact criteria for termination by SCP-4XXX-1 is believed to be subjective]] SCP-4XXX-2 will proceed to drag the carcass to a room behind the altar, where it is unknown exactly what happens to it.
In light of [Event] all personnel leaving SCP-4XXX are to be administered a class-A amnestic. Information on [Event] is to be classified for all personnel without level 5 clearance.
If a subject in SCP-4XXX completes the "mass" without "sinning" and is fully cooperative, SCP-4XXX-2 will dismiss them from the chapel. Upon leaving SCP-4XXX the subject will be cured of all ailments, mental and physical. This phenomenon can even reverse the effects of various SCPs.
If a subject in SCP-4XXX completes the "mass" without "sinning", is fully cooperative, and is deemed "pious" by SCP-4XXX, [footnote about what pious means to SCP-4XXX] SCP-4XXX-2 will call the subject up to the altar and commend them on their piety. The subject will then be prayed over by the congregation and "inducted" into the church. Following this event, the subject will become an instance of SCP-4XXX-1. Within several days of the subject joining SCP-4XXX-1, an anomalous object will be left on the church's doorstep. The exact reason this is done is currently unknown, but foundation staff have postulated that it may be a "gift" for the subject's family. Currently 3 anomalous objects are held in foundation custody, but level 5 clearance is required to access them they are forbidden for all foundation personnel exempting extreme circumstances as they pose a severe cogitohazardous risk. Written below are the objects currently in foundation custody.
AO-1: A eucharist that restores a person's memories
AO-2: A bible that always shows you what you need to know
AO-3: A crucifix that counteracts negative mental effects from cognitohazardous SCPs (with the exception of SCP-4XXX)
If a subject with religious authority who is deemed “pious” and is a practicing Christian or Fifthist enters SCP-4XXX, SCP-4XXX-2 will attempt to engage the subject in a debate about which of the two individuals is “the truth”. If SCP-4XXX-2 “wins”, SCP-4XXX-1 instances will maul the subject to death as a “blasphemer”. If SCP-4XXX-2 loses, SCP-4XXX-1 instances will maul SCP-4XXX-2 to death. The subject will then become the next SCP-4XXX-2 instance. For unknown reasons, no subject has ever refused this offer, despite at least one preacher expressing disdain for it. It is also unknown how a subject “wins” or “loses”, as once the debate begins both the subject and SCP-4XXX-2 speak incoherently. Furthermore, the new SCP-4XXX-2 instance has no memory of the debate.
Addendum: Investigative journeys to SCP-4XXX will require O-5 council permission following [event]. Also, anyone who uses AOs related to SCP-4XXX without O-5 permission will be terminated. Anyone who enters SCP-4XXX and doesn’t return after 2 hours is to be declared MIA. AO-3 is to be relocated to a more secure site following [event] and the discovery of [document].
