Images of SCP-4XXX do not exhibit the same anomalous behavior as SCP-4XXX.
Item #: SCP-4XXX
Object Class: Euclid Safe
Special Containment Procedure: SCP-4XXX is to be kept in a 1/2m. x 1/2m. locked combination safe in a 3m. x 3m. room, with a different combination lock than the one used on the safe. One combination is to be kept by Dr. █████ and the other is to be kept by Dr. ████████. All tests regarding SCP-4XXX require permission from both Dr. █████ and Dr. ████████, and all personnel must wear some form of blindfold when accessing SCP-4XXX. Any persons who read SCP-4XXX’s inscription are to be immediately terminated, unless viewing was intentional for testing purposes. A 5m. 5m. room containing at least one horse should be located directly next to SCP-4XXX’s containment cell at all times. This room should have a combination lock as well, and the combination should only be given to Level 3 or higher personnel cleared by Dr. █████ to handle the horse. Any person who attempts to break into the room with the horse should be immediately terminated.
Description: SCP-4XXX is a wooden plaque measuring approximately 22 x 13 centimeters. SCP-4XXX is inscribed with the words “Stimulating the economy one horse at a time.” Any person who reads SCP-4XXX does not notice any immediate anomalous effects. However, approximately one (1) month after viewing, affected persons begin to grow a fondness of horses. Two (2) months post-exposure, affected persons begin to want to buy a horse. This feeling strengthens over time, and after four (4) months becomes an obsession. Persons afflicted with this obsession are unaware of any anomalous aspects of their obsession. After six (6) months, the affected person will do anything in their power to obtain a horse, going as far as committing serious crimes to amass the funds required to purchase and care for a horse, or even breaking out of containment. [See Incident 4XXX-A for details].
SCP-4XXX was discovered after a large crime spike in the town of █████, ███████, in July of 20██. All criminals charged with theft stated during interviews that they “Just wanted to buy a horse,” and often experienced emotional breakdowns when not in a 10m proximity of a horse. This repetitive unusual behavior was picked up by an embedded Foundation agent, and searches were ordered to recover SCP-4XXX. SCP-4XXX was discovered after four months of searching, on 12/4/20██, due to the delayed effects of the object. The town was monitored until horse-related crime ceased. In this time, approximately ██ citizens of █████, ███████ purchased horses, █ committed crimes in order to purchase horses, and one 1█ year old girl stabbed her parents to death due to their refusal to purchase a horse for her.
Incident 4XXX-A: 1██ Foundation personnel were exposed to SCP-4XXX prior to it’s anomalous properties being fully observed. Six (6) months post-containment, all personnel exposed to SCP-4XXX collectively incited a containment breach at Site-██. Participants used lethal force and caused ██ casualties, along with containment breaches of █ SCP items, including SCP-███, SCP-████, and SCP-████. Re-containment was successful after presenting affected personnel with thirty horses. All personnel affected by SCP-4XXX were terminated shortly after.
Addendum 4XXX-A: Due to the lack of SCP-4XXX-related incidents in the past year, SCP-4XXX has been reclassified as safe.
