| Floor plan of the Malinta Tunnel, circa 1932. Notice the omission of the southwestern entrance. |
|---|
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The southwestern entrance leading to SCP-XXXX has been obscured from public view with a tarp and cautionary signs dissuading trespassers. Two guards have been stationed in front of this entrance to apprehend and amnesticize any unauthorized personnel.
Embedded agents are to omit all references to SCP-XXXX from local historical documents and store the actual, unedited copies in Site-237 archives. Samples of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be collected in vials and stored within iceboxes for transport en-route to Research Site 12-A Site-237. The vials are to be secured on cooling racks in a thermally adjustable chamber, set at -40℃.
SCP-XXXX is to remain sealed in its current state.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a hidden subterranean tunnel connected to its southern lateral counterparts as part of the Malinta Tunnel1 network. The entrance to SCP-XXXX is a 3-meter high concave entrance, supported by 12 wooden beams with a sign attached above, reading: "HQ-9-49MU".
Entry into SCP-XXXX is currently impossible due to an overwhelming quantity of household items, wooden planks and metallic scraps — most of which are seemingly remnants of several houses and automobiles. Manual removal was ineffective — the resultant mass remained unchanged, and detritus consisting of steel beams and rebar were wedged between the entrance, impeding further explorations into its interior.
On this barrier, SCP-XXXX-1 and human viscera coat the surface. SCP-XXXX-1 is a viscous, light-red liquid that stains the surface of the blockage. Analysis of this substance reveals a mixture of human blood and [REDACTED].
In 1942, American forces evacuated the tunnels in anticipation of a Japanese takeover. Shortly after its capture, Japanese soldiers discovered an abandoned opening2 located at the southwestern fringe of the tunnel network. The following was a series of reports by an unnamed general of the Imperial Japanese Army, describing an unusual circumstance.
Official Observation Report of the Fourteenth Area Army, Southern Expeditionary Army Group, Imperial Japanese Army
1942.05.07
To His Highness,
I come forth to you with pleasant news: the Fourteenth Area Army, under my command, has acquired an Allied base on the hills of Corregidor — a major victory for the Empire, as well as grave humiliation for the Americans and its allies. We have had minimal casualties — only 16 men required medical assistance, while hundreds of American bodies litter the shores, as we speak. With the Allies crippled, my men expect to complete the Southern Expedition before the stipulated dates.
As of today, at 0500 hours, 5 additional divisions have arrived to reinforce tunnel and shoreline defenses. Preparations to convert this tunnel network into our own are underway — medical supplies and military munitions will not be a major concern, in part due to the Americans' cowardice.
However, one of our men has made a curious discovery at the southeastern entrance: the lateral tunnel in this section was completely filled with waste. Itzuko told our men to focus on the task, but later, he reported back to me about a strange goo covering this landfill. I have had Sakato, Oji and Moyokoshi take a sample and analyze it at one of the makeshift labs we have set up in the southern wing of the tunnels.
On another note, we have heard several voices — probably civilians — coming from the landfill. We have attempted to excavate the tunnel, but it is currently difficult to get through the steel beams wedged deep into the ground.
With the consensus of Itzuko, Yawazaki and I, we are concerned that continued excavations may cause the deterioration of the tunnel's structural integrity, as well as present a logistical inconvenience for us all.
We await your decision on this matter.

To His Highness,
I am eternally grateful for your rapid response. We shall carry out your orders immediately.
Official Observation Report of the Fourteenth Area Army, Southern Expeditionary Army Group, Imperial Japanese Army
1942.05.14
To Lieutenant-General Masaharu Homma3,
I do not understand.
It has been days since we have stopped excavating. Yet, the cries and scratching do not seem to be stopping.
At this rate, we risk degradation of troop morale, especially at this crucial time.
We sincerely request advice on the matter.
Initial reports by Allied forces during the re-taking of the tunnel in 1945 indicated no prior knowledge of the existence of a southwestern entrance4, and claimed to have heard distant, muffled voices behind the barricade.
Congress refused to release an official statement on the matter, and increased US military presence in the Philippines. Sensing covert anomalous involvement, Foundation quick reaction units embedded in state judicial organs transitioned control to Site-237 in 1987, allowing extended investigations into the anomaly.
Throughout Foundation investigations, a total of six5 distinct voices (listed as Voice 1-6) were detected, which began to decrease from 12/03/1987. As of 08/11/1989, only two voices (Voice 5, 6) can be detected. The following is a series of notable events that occurred from its discovery to 08/11/1989.
| Identity | Event |
|---|---|
| Voice 1 | Identified as "Josephino Arliquez", 23-year-old female. Maintained a relatively cheery and optimistic personality throughout its lifespan. Favorite topics of conversation involved future career prospects, ambitious corporate projects, material wealth. On 12/03/1987, Voice 1 became silent. Its current status is unknown. |
| Voice 2 | Identified as "Arletto Buenez", 68-year-old male. Former palm oil processing worker in an unnamed company, forced to resign due to respiratory health issues stemming from prolonged exposure to unsanitary working conditions. Apart from its disclosure of the aforementioned information, Voice 2 politely refuses to partake in conversations, citing no clear reason for doing so. Rarely, Voice 2 has been heard to solemnly recite prayers to itself; its contents, upon translation from Tagalog, have been discerned to be repeated pleas for forgiveness to an unstated individual. On 12/23/1987, outside of its usual regimen of producing violent coughs from time to time, Voice 2 began to retch uncontrollably, soliciting concerns from the other voices. As of that day, no response was recorded from Voice 2. |
| Voice 3 | Identified as "Yusof", 42-year-old male. Maintained a calm, optimistic personality throughout its lifespan. Former imam of an Islamic mosque based in the southern Philippines. Frequently partakes in conversations discussing religious topics, especially Islam. Voice 3 often provides life advice, citing examples of text from the Quran, promising "enlightenment, even in the most uphill of uphill battles". Voice 3 is heard to converse with Voice 2 — most of the time, Voice 2 begins the conversation with a request for advice on familial issues and clarification of whether its former life should be viewed as "a condemnation". Voice 3 remains calm and inviting during all sessions, and replies that Voice 2 need not be "plagued with concern". On 05/23/1988, Voice 3 began to express signs of discomfort, complaining of chills and body aches. Hours later, Voice 3 emitted a chuckle and commented that "it was cold", before proceeding to pant rapidly for two minutes. No audio was detected from Voice 3 thereafter. |
| Voice 4 | Identified as "Mani", age unknown, female. Appears to have a familial or marital relation to Voice 5. Rarely partakes in conversations and exhibits general hostility towards others who express an explicit desire to converse, citing its "right to keep private matters to [itself]". Currently maintains communication with Voice 5. |
| Voice 5 | Identified as "Byoko Suarez", 37-year-old male. Unclear background. Enthusiastically interacted with others; favors conversations discussing infant care, social and familial issues. Currently maintains communication with Voice 4. |
| Voice 6 | Identified as "Trazino Marquez", 13-year-old male. Being the youngest of the group, Voice 6 seldom participates in conversations. Voices 4 and 5 tend to strike up conversations with Voice 6, discussing comedic situations during family gatherings and on other occasions, while also providing words of comfort during its episodic bouts of distress, claiming a foreign object was piercing into its perceived chest. On 08/11/1989, Voice 6 complained of chills. On the next day, it muttered "Mom?" before losing communication. |
The following audio involves Voices 4 and 5 conversing with each other on 12/04/1990 at 01:23 EST. This was the last recorded audio from Voice 4, leaving Voice 5 as the sole surviving entity from SCP-XXXX.
<Begin Log>
<Scratching sounds.>
Voice 5: Mani, you there?
<Silence.>
Voice 5: If- if you need some time to yourself, it's- it's okay. I can wait.
<12 minutes pass. Rattling, followed by several clangs.>
Voice 4: …what did the kid do to deserve this?
<Silence.>
Voice 5: He didn't do anything — we were all just- just trapped here in the first place. You knew that from day one, didn't you?
Voice 4: I do. Can't believe how we all started — started screaming like wild animals. <chuckles> Next few days, we formed a fucking community. Christ, are we actually going to just… die? Like the rest.
Voice 5: I- I don't know. Maybe. It's just the two of us, isn't it? Wait, uh, let me- <several clangs and groans> …goddamn this… fuck. <sounds of exertion, followed by a sigh> …okay. <loudly> Hello! Is anyone-
Voice 4: Christ, Suarez, this isn't funny. You know it.
Voice 5: Mani.
Voice 4: What the fuck's been going on with everyone else? I've been trying, all this time, to get us out of here, or hell, at least call for help. The rest of you weren't doing anything. What have you been doing, huh? Enjoying your own fantasies in your head? Trying to fuck with other women? Or what, don't fucking tell me you enjoy being trapped here.
Voice 5: Look, Mani. The world's gone to shit, at least, for us it seems. And I know — deep in my heart — that you're tired. I know. But- but what have we achieved during the first few days? I've- we have been-
Voice 4: -oh don't get me started on that-
Voice 5: -been, no, Mani, please stop interrupting-
Voice 4: -yeah, suck it up, Suarez. You're hopeless. You even lost the will-
Voice 5: Mani, please!
<Silence.>
Voice 5: This- this is why we didn't bring this topic up. Everyone's broken deep inside — we all are. But in this scenario, we- we had to just make the best out of this. You know it, don't you? To increase our prospects of getting out here — alive — we need to have the will. To have that will, we form the bonds together, strengthen them, and we support each other. Yusof, the kid, Racquez, Jonathan, Fredrick… they're all gone, and yeah, maybe we are next on the line. But at least, at- at least, we try.
<Scratching sounds.>
Voice 4: The thing is: we tried. Remember we heard something out there? Footsteps, and I swore I heard someone talking out there. Whoever's out there, they just left us to rot. Or I don't know, some sick game… I… don't… I don't know. <sobs>
<Scratching sounds.>
Voice 4: <sobs> I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for being like this.
Voice 5: I- I wish I could hold you right now. I really do. But… <chuckles sadly> till I get this… whatever it is that's fucking my ribs out…
<Several clangs.>
Voice 4: <sobs> God… it hurts.
<Voice 4 begins to pant heavily. A yelp.>
Voice 5: Mani?!
Voice 4: Shit… shit… <sobs, panting heavily> …it's still wet. S- still flowing out.
Voice 5: Wait, it's still bleeding? I thought- I thought you patched it up-
Voice 4: I… I don't know. I think I brought my leg up to a nail, or something. Something sharp.
<Rustling, and several clangs. Voice 4 coughs uncontrollably.>
Voice 4: I can't find anything. I… think my luck ran out this time.
Voice 5: Try to find something. Just… just something.
<Silence.>
Voice 4: I don't think I can.
<Scratching sounds.>
Voice 4: What is- no. No. No. I can feel it.
Voice 5: Wh- what do you mean?
Voice 4: (whimpers) I can feel it. The cold. It's… it's going up from my fingernails, my toes. No…
Voice 5: No, wait! Please!
Voice 4: <hyperventilating> It's- it's staring at me.
<Heavy pants. Several clangs.>
Voice 4: No… I- <unintelligible>
<Sounds of retching, followed by moans. Voice 4 speaks incoherently for 14 seconds.>
Voice 4: <unintelligible> -here.
<End Log>
After the conclusion of the aforementioned event, Voice 5 expressed mental distress and was unable to formulate any coherent speech for the next eight minutes. Subsequently, Voice 5 has become silent.

Foundation quick reaction forces were deployed to find the main wing of Research Site 12-A collapsed. Cover story "SIPHON" ('Design Fault') was enacted, while recovery efforts began. Most staff members assigned to SCP-XXXX-1 and a number of unrelated personnel were found under the rubble after 13 hours, deceased from massive blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.
Internal investigations began. Unusually, interrogations of surviving personnel revealed that a portion of detritus buried in the remnants of Research Site 12-A was of foreign source: similar to SCP-XXXX, an overwhelming quantity of wooden planks and household items were discovered among the wreckage, despite the site's concrete construct and the absence of any residential houses nearby.
Human viscera and a light red liquid (containing blood and SCP-XXXX-1) belonging to D-Alpha have been found on the wreckage. His body remains missing.
