Work In Progress… For now
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: To be contained; requires a pitch-black containment chamber of small size (walk-in closet size) of complete darkness room with a desk in the middle equipped with adequate lighting as to produce the shadow of the desk. Special area between containment chamber and rest of the site in order to prevent any breaches/halt SCP-X breaches from outside the special area- which is well-lit and no shadows are present (omnidirectional lighting) so SCP-X may not exit special area due to complete lack of shadows/darkness whatsoever. In order to determine whether or not one's shadow has been assumed by SCP-X, just shine so many lights at person from various angles as to eliminate one's shadow- if a shadow remains despite the intense omnidirectional lighting, that is SCP-X and not your shadow. What is containment chamber like? A small white room (dimensions similar to a small personal office) with omnidirectional lighting. In middle of room is a solid rectangle positioned so its smaller facets (opposite sides of this special desk)
SCP-XXXX is to remain in a 3 x 4-meter room on sublevel 3 within Area-39. The canvas of SCP-XXXX is to be completely covered to prevent the cognitohazardous effects SCP-XXXX from occurring. No Foundation Staff are to view SCP-XXXX with the canvas exposed. Personnel exposed to SCP-XXXX are to be immediately escorted to the on-site infirmary where they will be kept in quarantine and undergo psychological evaluations on a daily basis. If the symptoms of an affected patient deteriorate, termination is advised.
Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be kept within Area-39 at all times. Under no circumstances should Area-39 personnel be permitted through CONTINUE WHERE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED, AND HALF OF AREA-39 IS UNDER INDEFINITE QUARANTINE // ALSO SCP-XXXX IS THE SHADOW OF A PAINTING NOW AND OVER TIME THE PICTURE ON THE CANVAS WILL FADE AND THE SHADOW WILL BE RELEASED- REPAINTING THE PICTURE PROVES EFFECTIVE CONTAINING SCP-XXXX (SCP-XXXX embodies the madness and insanity depicted by the painting)
Description: Shadow-like entity, dwells in darkness, not able to enter areas with lighting (except areas with any shadows whatsoever), travels like a shadow and on the walls/ceiling/any surface- either able to possess humans or possess their shadow; latter sounds better now. SCP-X may assume anything's shadow, whether or not animate. SCP-X may assume this shadow for years without personnel realizing SCP-X has breached containment. SCP-X is animate, at least in shadow form. Should it be lethal or somewhat harmful? To answer this, SCP-X has the ability to slowly turn a living thing into a shadow1, can also turn inanimate objects into shadows too- shadowing their former physical location i.e chair turned into shadow would become its own shadow with the physical chair disappearing cannot turn things into shadows, can only mimic the shadow of a physical entity with the only physical effect on the entity being that the entity no longer has a shadow (light has no effect on it/them)- not so say there are no psychological symptoms which can be found in addendum. *perhaps write report on patient suffering from SCP-X syndrome.?*2
Addendum: Symptoms of animate subjects who have had their shadow possessed by SCP-X no longer have a shadow after SCP-X has left the host. SCP-X can only possess the shadow of living things and may only leave a host following the death of said host, at this time SCP-X will assimilate the closest shadow of inanimate or animate entities. When SCP-X is assimilating an inanimate entities shadow, it will most definitely leave its current inanimate host for an animate one if the latters shadow visibly overlaps SCP-Xs current hosts shadow. SCP-X will not exit a living thing's shadow until it has died, to which it will re-appear to the nearest shadow, animate or inanimate.
Cool concept if after taking over human host, the shadow is the one controlling the body, like a puppet on strings- and instead of the human controlling its shadow, the shadow controls the human host. well well well, how the turn tables… :l
TO DO
1. Delete the 'original' containment procedures and instead compose an incident report from an MTFs point of view detailing the situation
2. Make it clear that 2 doctors of the former 24-strong research team survived the incident- the rest tore each other apart like cannibals as they devolved (last insane researcher tore himself apart).
3. The matter that exits SCP-XXXX (assuming the physical form of shadows of humanoid beings), once it has manifested a human's shadow, will cause that human's behavior to be the polar opposite of their normal behavior- consider charlie Gordon as an example (dumb -> smart & modest -> arrogant)
4. in the description, when the painting is being described, have a number signifying the number of silhouettes in the painting- which is crossed out, followed by a number one place higher to signify someone 'entered' the painting. (technically they were dragged in by the shadow people.)
So basically, obscure artist paints that becomes his masterpiece, but he inexplicably, never revealing his art.
