Item #: SCP-####
Object Class: Euclid Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
In the case of any subjects of SCP-#### escaping, personnel assigned to specified subjects must be on sight and call out subjects of SCP-#### in different tones of authority. Scolding and verbal reprimanding are highly recommended to help deter future attempts at any and all escapes. If deemed necessary then selected personnel may use means of persuasion or coaxing to lure SCP-3908 back in containment.
In the measures of a subject disobeying protocol or instructions given by Dr. ██████, Dr. ███████, and/or Dr. Rosenberg then the subject should be immediately detained to a holding cell, accompanied with mirrored walls, with no recreational activities. Until subject is less aggravated, less hyper, less uncooperative, and very clearly shows remorse for its actions-only then can subject return back to its previous holding cell with designated limitations on recreational uses.
Under no circumstances are armed retrieval teams allowed to use physical force to obtain SCP-####. MTF must use the same precautionary measures as stated above. Any and all attempts could result in being put in a state of comatose. If physical attempts are made and acting personal don’t have a sudden loss of consciousness then they are to be immediately escorted for medical evaluation.
Walls in SCP-#### living quarters are to be made out of a silver glass mirror material in order to physically prevent subjects from leaving the inside of containment. Observations must be done within the confines of the containment cell with preferred paper and pen due to equipment giving inconclusive results or breaking under SCP-#### subjects' current emotional state. Because of such, subjects of SCP-#### have to be grouped up two (2) to three (3) per cell. SCP is to be interacted with and is allowed a number of ‘toys’ to keep occupied in a primary containment unit. Researchers that require SCP-#### to move for observational purposes must move the subjects to a room that require the same wall material standards.
Description:
SCP-#### is a species of entities in the form of children, most commonly referred to as "Sleep Spirits", or "Argentum frumenti Liberi" (which is Latin for Silver Grain/Wheat/ Children). This is the correct term due to these myths being most popularized in illustrations with local lore. Argentum frumenti Liberi have shown to have the ability of sleep inducement, consciousness renewal, and causing severe cases of vertigo when in distress through fists of screaming/crying. Subjects -A and -B both share these common characteristics, assumed to be shared traits among the majority of Argentum frumenti Liberi:
- Major bruising
- Glowing aspects of eyes/specs in hair
- Holes roughly the size of a fist penetrated through the chest
- Unidenifable smoky substance produced out of the chest cavity
- Pale and/or discoloration of the skin
Subject SCP-####-A is a young female of Argentum frumenti Liberi between the ages of six (6) to eight (8). The subject retains a permanent bruise in the form of a noose around its neck. -A is easily distracted and naturally curious to touch personnel with little to no regard for personal space. However, -A doesn't seem to be as aggressive as -B but is more emotionally sensitive towards reactions.
SCP-####-B is a young male of Argentum frumenti Liberi between the ages of seven (7) and ten (10). The male subject shows constant signs of perspiration out of sudoriferous glands and produces identical liquid from the hair as well. Water produced is enough to form puddles around -B's feet. Research has concluded that known liquids are freshwater most likely from a lake or river. The subject had been recognized to have a sheen of water or some type of liquid on its skin at all times. Thus, requiring daily containment cleaning.
The subjects were found during the investigation due to reports in ███████████ abnormally frequent reports of individuals suffering from comatose-like states. The increase of comatose patients started to rise at an alarming rate, followed by most victims being reported as depressed or anxious before falling unconscious. The youngest reported victim of this ‘sleeping illness’ was Manny Gonzalez, age eighteen. He was reported to have died thirty years later on account of medical staff pulling the plug. Manny Gonzalez was accordingly still asleep even up to that point. Other cases of this ‘sleeping illness’ report nearly the same circumstances of death.
Further evidence revealed that upon searching, reports of local civilians talking about Argentum frumenti Liberi had dramatically increased as well. Argentum frumenti Liberi is known as folklore that used to be told to others to calm their anxieties about nightmares. The story always seems to be told differently but entails of benevolent children spirits who come to aid man in their journey of sleep. Other similar stories tell of Argentum frumenti Liberi reportedly blessing small areas of evil spirits that cause said nightmares, curing the sleepless of insomnia, playing tricks to make others oversleep and miss important events, or making loved ones wake or fall asleep in sickness. Locals used the story of Argentum frumenti Liberi as an explanation or excuse for mistakes regarding sleep incidents not involved with actual Argentum frumenti Liberi .
All variations of lore detail finding these creatures in patches of silver Triticum (wheat). Such vegetation has been noted to grow around [REDACTED] parts. Species of Triticum (wheat) that are found in a silver coloring have no explanation for such occurrences. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of comatose victim's housing have evidence that small bundles of this silver wheat have been left in a decorative state somewhere in the vicinity. Argentum frumenti Liberi is commonly reported, in lore, as gifting small decorative bundles representing polite ‘thank you’ gestures or a sign that these entities will be visiting more often than not. Cases 5A-10 through 7A-5 have even performed this ritual themselves by placing a homemade bundle in a place of important possession, effectively making contact one-third (1/3) of the time.
Cases 6B-F claimed to capture beings of Argentum frumenti Liberi with mirrors, instigated by the belief that Argentum frumenti Liberi cannot travel back the spirit world, and therefore, can’t use mirrors to use as portals, being the only material they can’t faze their corporeal forms through. All accounts have resulted in all participants getting severe cases of vertigo though.
On 2/07/██ researchers had found a newly grown patch of silver wheat on drone footage just five miles (5.m) away from a cottage located in █████████████, █████████, Sweden. Researchers had then set up a hidden surveillance sight (Base ‘Quiet Finch’ )to observe any possible anomaly activities. Francis Nilsson was, a resident of the property, was unknowingly being recorded during this time. However, any and all recording devices gave inconclusive results due to abnormal amounts of distortion and static relaid to base ‘Quiet Finch’.
3/02/██ Francis Nilsson, age sixty-eight (68) at the time, was found in an unconscious in his living room during a checkup after Base ‘Quiet Finch’ had reported that Mr. Nilsson hadn’t left his house in over two weeks.
What looked to be a small naked female child, lay in the circle asleep with more bundles in hand. The female, now known as subject SCP-####-A was promptly captured with caution and ease. Subject showed no resistance against MTF team 'Bravo Finch' in obtaining it. SCP-#### subjects also appeared to be under a heavy sleep at the time as well, helping task force members with an easy 'get and go' mission. At the end of the couch was yet another sleeping child who is now registered as subject SCP-####-B.
Later on, new data observations of SCP-#### subjects' heavy and long sleep habits were recognized as a physical recovery from heavy energy uses.
Both subjects woke up once situated in their own cells at the site [REDACTED] in [REDACTED] upon arrival. An area breach of SCP-3908 occurred but MTF forces found both subjects in one cell, holding each other and refusing to separate. Mobile Task Forces officially had their first aggressive encounter with SCP-####-A and -B when trying to separate the two. Subject A began screaming once MTF members began physically tearing the two from their hold resulting in all MTF members falling to the ground either from massive ███████, vomiting, or ████████████████ that put several members in permanent comatose states.
Further measurements have been taken to prevent this.
Upon further research of SCP-####, subjects displayed natural of electromagnetic fields. Data displays that subjects in distress or more actively expressing high effort activities have a higher increase in the charge of their electromagnetic field. Proving that any and all SCP-#### entities can be tracked and contained if in the nearby area.
Neither subject seems to be able to communicate in any known language. Any words or sounds come out sounds like wind whistling or faint incomprehensible speech. The only recognized noise from subject’s mouth is evident laughter, shrieking, crying, and very rarely screams. An attempt to teach both subjects American Sign Language are being made but so far both seem uncooperative to the idea.
Subject: SCP-####-A/SCP-####-B
Procedure: Give SCP-#### instructions to induce D-class subjects into a comatose state for observation and try to get SCP-#### to reverse the effects as well.
Results: Varied
Dr. Rosenberg has extensively worked hands-on with SCP-####-A and SCP-####-B enough to the point where the subjects are now openly making efforts to follow Dr.Rosenberg’s directions. Both subjects seem to take pleasure in appraisal and rewards for following directions.
During tests, subjects become very cooperative if Dr. Rosenberg is involved directly in instructions or the test itself. In tests that require observation of SCP-#### putting D-class personnel permanently in a state of slumber have showed exacted, pleasing, results.
When instructed to do so the subjects calmly put D-class test subjects to sleep with no hesitation by placing SCP-#### subject's hands-on D-class subjects until a trance was apparent on D-class personnel. Results varied from an hour to five minutes of induced paralysis depending on the test subjects. When asked to wake the test subjects then the previous non-acting SCP-#### would wake up a test subject by what was noted as “affectionately stroking subject until awake”.
When both SCP-####-A and -B were asked to put a test subject to sleep the process repeated itself until researchers asked to wake them up again. Both subjects shook their heads and didn’t try to wake said test subject up.
Analysis: Research teams predict if a subject/s of SCP-#### induced sleep on person A then person A cannot wake up unless a different subject of SCP-####, that previously had no part of sleep inducement, wakes them up. ]
[NOTE#1-A:9/26/██
Dr. Rosenberg has received a tiny bundle of silver wheat from each subject each day he’s come in for daily routines, from each subject. Researchers that observe Subjects -A and -B can’t identify how both subjects are obtaining wheat without leaving containment.
NOTE#1-B:1/4/██
On staff personnel directly involved with SCP-####-A and SCP-####-Bs' case have reprimanded and chastised subjects, saying quote- “ Stop trying to get out and run in the halls just so you two can have a better range for tag. If it doesn’t stop now then I’ll personally make sure none of you get Goldfish Crackers with your lunch from now on.”-Dr .Rosenberg.
Subjects haven’t made any more attempts to break out of their designated cell, nor run in the halls.
NOTE#2-A: 2/15/██
SCP-#### is allowed free roam of permitted areas [REDACTED] under the permission of Dr. Sharpel, Dr. ████████, and/or Dr. Rosenberg. Only researchers/staff who have been in close proximity of SCP-3908 during daily activities and testing and have proved to have authority over SCP-#### may be allowed to escort SCP-#### during its free roam under specific requirements achieved. One (1) or more under these qualifications must be present around SCP-#### at all times during its permitted free roam areas.
NOTE#3: 5/14/██:
Dr. Rosenberg reported being able to understand what subjects -A and -B are saying. When reporting this to other researchers and bringing the SCP for observation no other staff could understand what the SCP subjects were saying. He and the subjects agreed to an interview. Dr. Rosenberg agreed to write down what he was hearing as they spoke while one researcher asked the questions. It was made clear to them that both were to stay professional when interviewing SCP-####-A and SCP-####-B but purposefully but moderately maternal due to substantial results progressing from given attitudes.]
Interviewer: Dr. Cameron
Interviewed: SCP-####-A
Foreword: This is the first conducted interview with SCP-####-A, written down word for word by Dr.Rosenberg. Another researcher added observed actions or movement in text format through notes taken on in the interview room as well. This is a script comprised of both writer’s words.
INTERVIEW-1-A 5/14/██
<Begin Log>
Dr. Cameron: “Hello, it’s nice to finally get to talk to you. May I ask you a few questions?”
SCP-####-A: [SCP nods while its fingers play with the hem of its shirt.]
Dr. Cameron: “There’s nothing to worry about, you're not in trouble we promise.”
SCP-####-A: [Looks in Dr. Rosenberg's direction for what can be interpreted as confirmation.]
Dr. Roosenberg: “It’s okay. He’s only going to be asking questions. Try and act like I’m not here in the meantime, okay?”
SCP-####-A: [Steadily Nods] “Okay”
Dr. Cameron: “Where did you come from?”
SCP-####-A: “ I-I don’t remember. I don’t know what you mean.”
Dr. Cameron: [Leans over to study Dr. Rosenberg's written dialog.] “ Ah, well- Where were you born?”
SCP-####-A: “Germany I think, I don’t know where but the others say I have a an accent.”
Dr. Cameron: “You keep saying you don’t remember, were you always like this-meaning did you always look like this?”
SCP-####-A: [Shakes head] “I don’t know. One day I woke up in a field of light plants-the itchy kind. Everyone does that. They told me. They told me they do that, the others. It’s just how we are?
Dr. Cameron: “Ended, you mean how you died?”
SCP-####-A: [Looks down and shifts in the chair].
Dr. Cameron: [Coughs] “We won’t call it that. Um,-A is there any chance that you're ending-”
SCP-####-A: [Speaks interrupting Dr.Cameron]
Dr. Cameron: [Turns to Dr.Rosenberg.] “What did -A say?”
Dr. Rosenberg: “ She said, Erica. I think that’s her name.”
Dr. Cameron: [Nods then focuses back on the subject] “Ah-Okay Erica, is there any chance that your ending involved a noose or being hanged?”
SCP-####-A: [Softly grabs neck where noose mark is and lightly rubs injury. Subject nods] “Hayden, my friend, he was put in water by someone bad. He said the person didn't let him breath.”
Dr. Cameron: “I see. Erica, why did you and your friend put Francis Nilsson to sleep…for good.”
SCP-####-A: [Subject perks up in the seat] “I wanted to help-he wanted my help. He was so sad. His heart was hurting-his chest-he even cried. I-I didn’t like it…when grown-ups cry. We helped him not because he asked but because it was better. He would have asked though. I know so. He was too sad too. He wanted to die instead though.”
Dr. Cameron: “Better? Better than what Erica?”
SCP-####-A: “-Better than being too sad to be alive. He was better as soon as we put him to sleep. He dreamed of his mama. He wasn't sad- the dream was better and sleeping is better than being here most of the time. You do what you want and can see who you want. Most of the time people think it’s real so it makes everyone happy. We made sure he didn’t have any nightmares either. It was like that until we came here though. We can’t make the nightmares go away if we’re not there. We can't help him anymore.”
Dr. Cameron: [Pauses for an approximate minute] “You didn’t give him a choice. He's sleeping in a nightmare for the rest of his life. You can’t do that to people. You might as well start killing them with your bare hands. It’s wrong and really, really, bad.”
SCP-####-A: [Ceases to respond for about a minute, now looking down] “I thought I wasn’t in trouble.”
Dr. Cameron: “You’re not in trouble! You-I-” [Exhales from nose] “You just can’t do that. What if people took away your ability to see just because they thought it’d be better not to see the scary things. What if they held you down forever because-because you might trip and fall? They'll be preventing you from getting hurt. Do you understand?”
SCP-####-A: “I’m not trying to make anyone mad. We’re not trying to hurt anyone. We’re here to help and-and help everyone including us too.”
Dr. Cameron: “How are you helping yourselves, the others?”
SCP-####-A: “By helping you, by being close to you, getting thank you’s and hellos- even the special times when you give us hugs and stay until we fall asleep- we’re here because of that. It’s our food… It makes us closer to you-to those types of people, but we can help more and we can help our new persons. Everyone can be happy…not even with sleep but being awake too.”
Dr. Cameron: [Looks over to Dr.Rosenberg then back to the subject] “Erica…is the reason Dr. Rosenberg is able to understand you and your friend because of how much time you three have been spending together?”
SCP-####-A: [Subject nods]
Dr. Cameron: “Is Dr. Rosenberg your person now?”
SCP-####-A: [Subject nods]
Dr. Cameron: “Are you going to try and put him to sleep to ‘help’ him?”
SCP-####-A: [Pauses looking between the two] “Well, I was but now I think I’ll get yelled at if I do.”
Dr. Rosenberg: [Jumps out of his seat] “Damn right you will!”
Dr. Cameron: [Takes the paper from Rosenberg] “Sit down, if you can’t have a level head then you can’t be a part of this.”
Dr. Rosenberg: [Slowly sits down and takes back the paper to write on]
SCP-####-A: “I’m sorry. I just wanted you to feel even better. I don’t want you to get sad. I wanted to take you to a better place than real life… I know you weren’t sad but I just wanted to feel great. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Dr. Cameron: “You know not to try on him though right? Or on anyone.”
SCP-####-A: “I guess…yes?”[decreased in speaking volume]
Dr. Cameron: “You guess? You guess or you won’t try?”
SCP-####-A: “I won’t try. No more, no more.”
Dr. Cameron: “Good, We’ll continue another time. Make sure your friend knows not to try too…God knows how easy that'll be [sighs].”
<End Log>
Two weeks later Dr.Rosenberg was submitted to medical evaluation due to symptoms of slight vertigo and growing headaches. When confronting SCP-####-A and -B about this both reportedly refused to speak in fear. After hours of consultation and trying to get answers Researcher M. ████████ was able to get a response from the first recorded written answer from SCP-####. It said-
“ We didn’t do anything. It was his fault. He wouldn’t be so sick if he didn’t do what he usually does.”
SCP-####-B then started telling Dr. Rosenberg something that wasn’t identified until an additional three hours later due to Dr. Rosenberg having a short mental break down. Later on, it was paraphrased that SCP-####-B had said that Dr.Rosenberg did what only special people do if they are 'the best'. 'They rely on our hugs like we do to them or they’ll end up dead without it.'
Weeks later Dr. Rosenberg cooperated with a series of test telling what happened to him. He exhibited varied signs of vertigo the farther he was away from Subject’s -A/-B and had only a few hours of sleep for each night consistently. When placed in the near vicinity or inside SCP-#### subject's chamber to sleep it was recorded that he had none of the previous state symptoms. Dr. Rosenberg stated "When I woke up it was like I slept on a cloud. Even though I feel better and not sick in the presence of the children, it doesn't make me feel any better about the circumstances in why I have to stay in here though."
Dr.Rosenberg isn’t designated as a subordinate of SCP-#### or a subject of SCP-#### but a now promoted head researcher of the SCP-#### anomalies in site (REDACTED) in (REDACTED). Since said SCP-#### incident Dr.Rosenberg hasn’t been able to leave the facility without being chronically ill. His current office is within walking distance of SCP-#### due to chronic illness otherwise. However, he has proved himself as a very beneficial researcher until further notice. He is to be used during any SCP-#### related events.
