A dormant instance of SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Mobile Task Force Digamma-7 ("Riders on the Storm") is tasked with removing instances of SCP-XXXX from affected areas. D-Class personnel are supplied with a vehicle and are tasked with baiting SCP-XXXX for capture and relocation. Foundation agents are tasked with the inspection of all rural roads in the midwestern United States for instances of SCP-XXXX. Any detection of SCP-XXXX instances in previously uninhabited areas are to be reported to MTF Digamma-7.

As of 08/09/07, at least ██ roads have been reported to be infested with SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a nocturnal species of arachnid predators, inhabiting rural roads of the Midwestern USA. These creatures live burrowed underground near the roads, and create a camouflaging disguise resembling a typical road sign.

Dormant at day, SCP-XXXX awakens at night, and stalks its prey, which consists of unsuspecting drivers and their vehicles. SCP-XXXX will stalk the vehicle until its movement is noticed by the driver, at which it will lunge at the vehicle, and start to attack it and the driver. It will continue until SCP-XXXX kills the driver and the vehicle crashes to a halt.

Once the driver and vehicle have been consumed, the vehicle escapes capture, or SCP-XXXX does not reach the vehicle quick enough, SCP-XXXX will bury itself into a new hole in a different location, usually near where the crash occurred. Sometimes, instances of SCP-XXXX will change their camouflage to fit their new location.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX was first brought to the attention of the Foundation after an influx of reports regarding the mysterious movement and/or relocation of traffic signs, along with "hissing noises from behind". Foundation agents responded to the situation upon receiving information regarding a missing persons incident taking place on a rural road. Foundation forensicists and agents were dispatched on the scene. Discovering a wrecked car off the main road, DNA analysis revealed DNA similar to that of members of the Latrodectus genus of spiders. Initially filed as an Extranormal Event, SCP status was granted upon a subsequent report of two teenagers being chased by a "monster spider" while attempting to steal one of the street signs. This report was accomponied with a "RECREATION OF ACCOUNT", depicting a giant spider-like creature with a road sign attached to it's back. All involved people were amnesticated, and the report was consficated by Foundation agents.
