A downscaled image of SCP-8024.

Item #: SCP-8024

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8024 is contained inside an airtight 1m x 1m x 1m steel cube located in Site-48. Video surveillance devices are strictly prohibited inside SCP-8024's containment unit. Subjects exposed to SCP-8024 must undergo heavy psychological counseling. Class-B amnestics will be applied as a second resort. Any high definition video footage and photography of SCP-8024's physical appearance is to be immediately incinerated. SCP-8024 is not to be taken out for testing unless permission is granted from Level 3 Clearance or above.

Description: SCP-8024 consists of two anomalies, SCP-8024-1 and SCP-8024-2. SCP-8024-1 is a 40 cm x 30 cm x 5 cm rectangular cardboard box. All of its surfaces are covered in printed imagery. Inside it are SCP-8024-2. Which are exactly twenty-five blank CD discs. The content of the discs have not been revealed yet due to a few problems (See Addendum-8024A). There also appears to be a yellow sticky note taped on the back of SCP-8024-1 (See Addendum-8024D). The imagery on SCP-8024-1 depicts crudely drawn cartoon characters, and text which reads "Battle For Dream Island" and "Official". The meaning behind these findings are still being investigated.

SCP-8024's anomalous properties begin to manifest when an individual is visually exposed to SCP-8024-01's physical appearence (SCP-8024-2 doesn't occupy this strange property). This effect only seems to occur when subjects view it directly and not through a display or photograph (With the execption of real video footage and images which exceed 1080p resolution). When viewed, the human subject will sense an uncontrollable urge to obtain the object. This causes the subject to act violent towards anyone who attempts to distract them from this goal. In instances where multiple subjects view it, they will try to fight each other until one remaining person is able to acquire SCP-8024. Due to this, it is labeled as a severe cognitohazard. Subjects initially exposed to SCP-8024 take a long period of time to regain their passive behaviors through treatment, which is not guaranteed to work.

Discovery: SCP-8024 was first discovered on a hillside in Southern Canada. A group of hikers is believed to have first approached the object, which caused them to brutally murder other members of the group in order to earn it for themselves. Upon the news of a few people going missing in this region, The Foundation took notice. When the crew first entered the scene, all the hikers were laying dead, with one of them unconciously holding SCP-8024 in his right hand. Foundation agents then immediately took hold of the object for further examination. All personnel involved in the discovery of SCP-8024 were later administered Class-B amnestics to prevent their unpredictable actions.

Addendum-8024A: If any instances of SCP-8024-2 are to be removed from SCP-8024-1, the individual holding said instance of SCP-8024-2 will feel obligied to place it back as soon as possible. The Foundation is unable to research the discs because of this phenomenon.

Addendum-8024B: SCP-8024 seems to be virtually indestructable. While the compound which makes it up is chemically identified to be cardboard and plastic, several attempts to damage it have backfired. SCP-8024 is extremely durable and the cardboard or its plastic discs do not bend/rip apart when an outside force is implied. Regardless of this, the texture of these surfaces feel identical to their respectful materials.

Addendum-8024C: Tests conducted on various animals have shown that SCP-8024 does not affect non-sapient life forms in any way.

Addendum-8024D: Below is the text written on the sticky note found alongside SCP-8024's discovery. Fortunately, the note does not appear to exhibit SCP-8024's anomalous effects so it can be read safely.

There's nothing left I could've done. We are running out of time. They don't desire it anymore. All they want now is for us to be banished from here. We have done so much irreversible damage to this planet. X, if you're reading this, I want you to take the BFDI and secure it somewhere. A place where no one will ever find it. If it ever gets in the wrong hands, we will be in huge trouble. I'm sorry to leave you all by yourself, but in order to save our people, I must sacrifice myself. Hope you understand.

Researchers trying to decode this message have proven unsuccessful.

Addendum-8024E: A test was conducted on a D-Class personnel known as D-6548. After exposed and superficially treated for SCP-8024's hazardous effects, subject was interviewed by Dr. ████. The interview has been documented as follows,

Dr. ████: Could you please explain the first emotion you felt with your sighting of SCP-8024?

D-6548: Just sheer anger, and grief. Almost as if my thought process ceased, and all I wanted was the box.

Dr. ████: Here on the report it says that you've attempted violence towards two security personnel who were restraining you during the test. Have you felt hesitant to do such a thing at first, or was it impulse?

D-6548: Definitely impulse. I still can't believe how it was me who did that. When I first saw that goddamn thing, whispers in my head began to form and-

Dr. ████: *interrupts* Could you make out what they were saying?

D-6548: Not with all of them. I could hear "Don't you want it?", "You have to compete." and "You wouldn't want to be eliminated, would you?" but the rest was close to gibberish…

Dr. ████: Alright, that seems to be it. Thank you for-

D-6548: *begins shaking subtly and interrupts* I could feel the dread, all those lies and fears. Ever since this happened I-

Dr. ████: That's enough. *shouts at the interview team* Cut!

*D-6548 breaks through the belts connecting him to the seat and quickly blasts through the door, rushing down the hallway.*

D-6548 was later found hiding inside the janitor closet of Site-48. Subject was mumbling meaningless phrases to himself and was taken for psychological examination shortly afterwards. Class-B amnestics were applied due to the failure of his psychological treatment.
