Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be allowed living quarters and given access to unclassified requested literature. It is to be provided with a medium pack of commercially bought fountain pen refills and the amount of paper not to exceed 1000 500 European standard A4 paper. In the case SCP-XXXX hands in a complete manuscript, it is to be sewn together and given to dedicated Level 2 personnel for editing and revision. SCP-XXXX's work is to be thoroughly checked for any mention of the Foundation or any concept or entity related to it. In such a case SCP-XXXX is to be asked by dedicated Level 2 personnel to rewrite the manuscript. In the case SCP-XXXX refuses the manuscript is to be incinerated on-site.
SCP-XXXX is to be allowed to publish finished work under the pseudonym of V. Hutmacher. SCP-XXXX's work cannot be published unless approved by the Site Director. The foreword of every literary work is to explicitly state for the readers that the author is not looking for any kind of public exposure.
SCP-XXXX is to be allowed a single set of formal wear of color matching the color of SCP-XXXX and a pair of black imitation-leather formal shoes.
SCP-XXXX-1 is to be checked every 2 (two) weeks for structural damage and is subject to mandatory replacement at least every 2 (two) years. The replacement mannequin must be resembling a male figure. It must not be heavier than 30 (thirty) kilograms and must be made entirely of plastic with no removable or rotatable limbs or extremities. The replacement mannequin must include a plain head with no facial features.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a black fedora of an unknown make and material that doesn't tear or burn and cannot be punctured. SCP-XXXX is highly intelligent and sentient, able to communicate verbally despite not seeming to have the means to do so. SCP-XXXX has shown fluency in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, Hindu, Portuguese, and Modern Celtic, although it prefers conversing in English with a slight Yankee accent with mellow overtones and deep baritone. SCP-XXXX is able to control any type of mannequin and some types of dolls. It has expressed many times that it considers controlling a female-type mannequin or a doll humiliating and indecent. The mannequin under the control of SCP-XXXX, designated SCP-XXXX-1, behaves in a human manner and gesture regardless of the material. SCP-XXXX does not seem to have any control over a human body when being worn and is largely helpless without an SCP-XXXX-1. In the rare cases SCP-XXXX somehow loses contact with SCP-XXXX-1, it has shown a very crude and rather ineffective way of locomotion by deforming its shape slightly in attempts to crawl or roll while groaning in a rather angry tone about being humiliated.
When there is no possible way for SCP-XXXX of acquiring an SCP-XXXX-1 by its own means, it will wait for the first human to come by and tries to talk them into picking it up and placing it on the nearest mannequin, although most subjects react with panic when hearing its voice in a seemingly empty room. SCP-XXXX expresses friendly behavior when being worn and tries to establish a friendship with the person wearing it. At some point in the conversation, SCP-XXXX will inevitably mention its need for a mannequin and will express its helplessness to its newly established acquaintance falsely stating that its life depends on this matter.
SCP-XXXX expresses a big interest in literature and spends most of its time reading or writing. It chooses primarily to write science fiction or detective novels. It has also shown interest in computer science, engineering, and futurism, stating that one day it will build itself a robotic body able of flight. SCP-XXXX has often expressed its willingness to help the Foundation personnel, actively asking to be of assistance.
Acquisition Log: SCP-XXXX has made contact with Field Agent ███████ at that time stationed in ███████, Maine, near Portland, Maine, in January ██, 193█. It expressed a vast knowledge of the Foundation and did not believe the cover story of Agent ███████, demanding the Agent help him in containing itself. It claimed it was being hunted by a criminal group operating from the Three Portlands and it demanded refuge with the Foundation. Agent ███████ contacted Site-██ and organized an extraction to the Site, where SCP-XXXX is contained today.
Addendum XXXX-a: Upon acquisition SCP-XXXX was interviewed by Agent █████.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX.
Interviewer: Agent █████.
Foreword: SCP-XXXX has just been placed in temporary containment but has not received SCP classification.

Agent █████: So… you're a mannequin?
SCP-XXXX: Nah, my friend. I'm the hat.
Agent █████: The hat. You're a fedora?
SCP-XXXX: Ayaeap.
Agent █████: Is that yes or no?
SCP-XXXX: Yes, that is. Now how about my containment, my friend?
Agent █████: That is in order of things. Meanwhile, I have several questions for you, mister…?
SCP-XXXX: Rick… Richard. I've been called many things but I guess this name will do for now.
Agent █████: Ok, Richard. May I ask why you decided to turn yourself in?
SCP-XXXX: As I said before to your undercover buddy, I have no idea how I got out of Three Portlands but it is certain that I would not survive this long if I didn't. I wasn't alone before. There were others, other… hats, if you will.
Agent █████: Other hats, hmm? Were they also capable of… of…?
SCP-XXXX: Controlling mannequins? Yes. And much more than that. We were professionals. We knew what to do and when to do it. When Three Portlands has delved into chaos and crime we decided… decided we've seen enough. We had a background in uhhm… Let's just
