Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in an approximately 50-gallon glass tank, with a wire-mesh removable top-cover, where there is easy airflow and approximately 35-50% humidity. Along the bottom of the aforementioned tank, there is to be 2-4 inches of Aspen/Coconut fiber, depending on the season around the facility. Within the tank, there should be adequate branches, or jagged-edged decorations that SCP-XXXX can get stuck shed off itself. The jagged-edges must not be sharp enough to pierce the scales on its body. It must be fed one mid-sized rat/mouse live, once every 1-1½ weeks by use of tongs 2 feet in length.
The tank holding SCP-XXXX should be kept on Floor 3 of Facility ██, within the now-cleared Janitorial closet on the Eastern side of the floor. This room is to remain locked at all times. All personnel are allowed to visit SCP-XXXX, however, no personnel are allowed, at any time, to enter the room holding its tank without an outfit that allows naked contact with it.2 Should anyone try to remove SCP-XXXX from its current habitat without proper permission, they should be considered a threat to the secrecy of the SCP Foundation, and neutralized as soon as possible.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, of approximately 4.7 ft. in length. It has solenoglyphous fangs attached to its maxillary bones of approximately 3.2 inches, which will swing out when attacking a victim, if extremely irritated or threatened. However, SCP-XXXX is completely incapable of excreting any venom through its veins, and because of this bites are less than that of a cat.
It has a reddish-brown/light gray pattern typical to the species, and a sun-bleached white rattle at the end of its tail, just after a white/black stripe. It also has a tongue that can extend out of its mouth around 1-1.63 inches in length, which it uses to smell its surroundings or express contentedness within its environment.
SCP-XXXX was discovered by Prof. John Dodger a month after his promotion to Researcher at Facility ██. He was taking what he called a "brisk walk" through the local community garden, about 1.2 miles from the facility when an emergency containment squad was called in, and the area was immediately evacuated. Prof. Dodger was recorded on audio stating "The creature had to be detained at once, due to its immense capabilities to harm the general public!" convincing Squadron C-7-██ to "detain it at once". After containment, the subject was immediately examined by Dr. ██████ Morris, who exclaimed upon close inspection "This is literally just a [EXPLETIVE] rattlesnake!"
SCP-XXXX Was then decommissioned, and released back to its previous habitat.3 SCP-XXXX was then recaptured due to showing signs of anomalous activity. After various tests, and outside experience, it has been found that SCP-XXXX causes anyone to come into physical contact with it will end up outside Facility ██ attempting to return it to the "Man who owns the cute noodle."4 Everyone who has experienced the symptoms will have knowledge of the SCP Foundation, and must have Amnestic Treatment, which they seem to understand completely.
After testing, and the incident classified [REDACTED], it has been found that those who have touched SCP-XXXX will seem to have subconscious knowledge that it has left the facility, and will also seem to know its general location. Subjects have shown a persisting urge to return it, should it escape. If multiple subjects are suffering from symptoms of physical contact with SCP-XXXX, they will act in a hivemind-like manner to try and recontain it.
Addendum 1 - SCP-XXXX was originally going to be classified as SCP-76253, but this was not allowed by Dr. Morris for obvious reasons
Addendum 2 - Prof. Dodger is currently the only designated personnel to touch SCP-XXXX freely, granted by Facility
Addendum 3 - SCP-XXXX is still categorized as "Decommissioned", as it is more of a facility pet than an SCP, according to the Higher-Ups of Facility ██. 5
Addendum 4 - Dr. John Dodger has accepted the role as the "caretaker" of SCP-XXXX, and treats it like a pet.
Addendum 5 - SCP-XXXX has since been reconsidered a "Safe-Class" SCP within personnel computers, and official documents.
