Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: The web server hosting SCP-XXXX can be temporarily disabled by MTF Mu-4 (“Debuggers”) whenever physical location is known. Foundation web crawlers are capable of locating the renewed and modified SCP-XXXX before a transaction can take place in approximately 90% of cases. Despite this, sales of new SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be expected as frequently as twice per month.

Global law enforcement communications are to be automatically monitored for mentions of unusual wild animal noises and reports of individuals exhibiting aggressive and animalistic behaviour as related to the effects of SCP-XXXX-1.
If an involvement of SCP-XXXX-1 seems probable, a containment team needs to be dispatched immediately to search the area.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be immediately destroyed upon retrieval by means of incineration unless requested otherwise by the Head of the research team and approved by the sites Assistant Director of Containment.
Affected individuals, witnesses to the animal mimicking behaviour and any non-Foundation members who have taken notice of the SCP-XXXX-1 instance should be administered Class-A amnestics as necessary1.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 stored for testing purposes are to be kept in a locked container in the middle of a zoned off video-surveilled 40x40 square-metre area in the E-wing of Site-64 with no rooms or maintenance tunnels 20 metres above or below the area.
Access to the area requires permission from a Level 2 researcher currently working with SCP-XXXX-1. No personnel are allowed inside this area continuously for longer than 90 minutes except for testing purposes.

Until further notice, testing of the effects of SPC-XXXX-1 is restricted to D-Class personnel. After completion, subjects are to be debriefed, administered an Class-A or Class-B amnestic and monitored for 24 hours before returning to duty.

Furthermore, on site security is required to store gas powered rifles with darts containing sedatives and a mobile gas furnace needs to be kept close to all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 at all times in case quick disposal becomes necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous website with a changing domain and layout selling instances of SCP-XXXX-1 for a price of $16.992 or the equivalent is in a local currency. It is hosted on web servers for up to ~36 hours at a time where it is inserted by abusing one or more unknown exploits.
The website generally consists of a single page with text and pictures of various SCP-XXXX-1 instances and an option to pay with credit card but does not provide any information on the operating parties. After a period of approximately ~36 hours or whenever an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is bought and the transaction is successful, SCP-XXXX disappears without leaving any trace on the used server and takes on a new name, appearance and address.

Attempts to locate the seller through various means have so far remained unsuccessful. Individuals who have bought an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 stated to have been presented with online advertisements for SCP-XXXX on social media and news websites. However, no references to SCP-XXXX have been stored by any company providing such advertisement slots.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are small wooden figures of animals with no apparent use other than as decoration. They vary in size from about 5 to 15 cm and appear to be handmade and unique as all collected instances have shown different features and proportions. Previously recovered designs include lions, bears, ducks and elephants among others.

When purchased, SCP-XXXX-1 is delivered within two to four business days via the local postal service. It arrives in a brown cardboard box with a machine printed label but without a return address. Contained within is only the wooden figure secured in bubble wrap.

As SCP-XXXX-1 initially has no effect, it is usually put on display by the buyer or wrapped up if it is intended as a gift. However, after some hours, usually during the following night, individuals nearby SCP-XXXX-1 begin to experience the auditory phenomena described below often resulting in phone calls to local law enforcement.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 exhibit hallucinogenic effects on people in a radius of about 15 metres through unknown means. Affected individuals hear noises characteristic to the animal SCP-XXXX-1 is shaped after. However, this effect only starts to set in after being in proximity to SCP-XXXX-1 for multiple hours.

The experienced sounds reportedly grow louder as the individual gets closer to the SCP-XXXX-1 instance, though it is not perceived as the source of the noises. While first appearing very distant, over a period of about 30 minutes, the source of the animal sounds appears to slowly get closer until the individuals believes the creature to be right next to them. After this point, an affected person falls silent for a few seconds and becomes unresponsive when spoken to.
Shortly afterwards, the individual involuntarily starts to imitate the sounds they perceived earlier and begins mimicking the behaviour of the animal. In the case of a duck for example, this may include making a quacking sound and squatting in a nearby body of shallow water.

In this state, individuals stay within roughly 30 metres of SCP-XXXX-1 and become hostile when it is attempted to move them or the object. If successfully physically separated from SCP-XXXX-1, they quickly fall unconscious. Then, a few hours later, they wake up in a disoriented state, but otherwise restored to their old selves. The same happens if the instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is damaged or destroyed.

Individuals that were affected by SCP-XXXX-1 remember the experience only up to the point they first start perceiving faint animal noises even though they remain fully conscious and capable of communication until they start to mimic the animal. Long term effects of the exposure have not been observed so far.

Addendum XXXX-A: The elephant figurine shown in figure 1 is an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 retrieved from █████████, Canada on ██/██/2015. It was purchased by █████ ███████, a middle aged caucasian male as a present for his wife. The package arrived in the morning and the item was presumably immediately unwrapped and put on a shelf by the individual after which he carried on with his day from inside the house.
When his wife returned home in the evening, she discovered her husband walking on all fours and making trumpeting sounds. After unsuccessfully attempting to interrogate about the bizarre behaviour, she noticed the SCP-XXXX-1 instance and picked it up. At this point, the husband attacked by ramming her from the side like an elephant causing the woman to drop the item and run outside, from where she made a distressed call to local law enforcement.
Upon their arrival, the affected individual was taken into custody and later admitted to a mental health institution. The figurine was retrieved from the house by a Containment team that same evening.
