SCP-8522
Item #: SCP-8522
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8522 is to remain publicly accessible in its current location within [REDACTED] Park, [REDACTED], Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A perimeter of approximately 5 meters around SCP-8522 is to be monitored by two (2) Foundation personnel disguised as park maintenance workers or tourists during park operating hours (06:00 to 22:00 PST).
Should any individual sit on SCP-8522 and begin to exhibit signs of an anomalous event (e.g., prolonged stillness, unfocused gaze, muttering), monitoring personnel are to observe discreetly. Upon the conclusion of the anomalous event, affected individuals are to be approached under the guise of a casual park survey or public opinion poll. During this interaction, a Class-B amnestics agent is to be administered orally, disguised as a breath mint or pain reliever, specifically targeting memories related to the anomalous experience.
The bronze statue component of SCP-8522 is to be cleaned weekly by D-Class personnel equipped with standard non-abrasive cleaning agents. No attempts are to be made to move, dismantle, or otherwise alter SCP-8522 without proper approval.
Description:
SCP-8522 is a standard public park bench crafted from painted metal slats with wooden armrests, situated in [REDACTED] Park, on which sists a life-sized bronze statue of a seated, elderly man, dressed in period-appropriate civilian clothing from the early 20th century. The statue is bolted to the concrete pad beneath the bench.
When a sapient individual sits on SCP-8522 for a continuous period exceeding three (3) minutes, they will initiate an anomalous event. During this event, the subject's consciousness is temporarily detached from their physical senses and projected into a series of highly detailed, non-interactive visual and auditory experiences. These experiences manifest as a chronological "playback" of significant moments from the life of the individual depicted by the bronze statue.
Subjects report that these "visions" unfold as if they are present within the scene, able to move around as they wish.
Note: It is unknown at this time wether there is some sort of field keeping the viewer in the statue's memories, or if they are able to move about as they please until the scene shifts. Dr. Cane will administer further testing upon approval.
The bench itself consistently remains within the subject's field of perception throughout the experience, often acting as a subtle anchor or reference point within the unfolding narrative. Individuals within the visions are unaware of the subject's presence and do not interact with them.
The duration of the anomalous event varies, typically lasting between 15 and 45 minutes of real-world time, regardless of the perceived length of the "life review." Subjects often describe the experience as emotionally profound, evoking strong feelings of nostalgia, empathy, and reflection, akin to a comprehensive, immersive biographical film. Upon conclusion, subjects typically report feeling a sense of clarity or understanding regarding human life and experience, though the specific details of the life reviewed quickly fade without proper mnemonic reinforcement. This natural memory degradation is further expedited by the standard Class-B amnestics administered during containment.
Initial investigations into the identity of the man depicted by the statue have been inconclusive. Local historical records indicate the statue was installed in 1957 as a general public art piece, with no specific individual named as its subject. Attempts to identify the individual through facial recognition databases have yielded no matches.

Subject: D-7033-01
Procedure: A barrier was set up around the park, with signs reading: "Hazardous Maintenance Underway", and several false worker were put in place to stop civilians from entering.
D-7033-01 was instructed to sit on SCP-7033 and report on any anomalous phenomena. D-7033-01 was a 54-year-old male with no significant medical history.
Observation: After 4 minutes, D-7033-01 became unresponsive, staring blankly ahead. His respiration and heart rate remained stable. After 32 minutes, D-7033-01 gasped and blinked rapidly, appearing disoriented.
Interview Log:
Interviewed: [D-7033-01]
Interviewer: [Dr. Fields]
Foreword: [Following an anomalous event initiated by D-7033-01's interaction with SCP-7033, D-7033-01 was debriefed by Dr. Sharma to gather information on the experience before the administration of amnestics.]
<Begin Log>
Dr. Fields: [Can you describe what you just experienced?]
D-7033-01: [ Pauses, rubs temples~ It was… wow. Like, I saw everything. This guy's life. From when he was a little kid, playing with a wooden train, all the way up to… to when he got this statue.]
Dr. Fields: [What kind of details did you perceive?]
D-7033-01: [Everything. The smells, the sounds, even the feeling of the air. It was like I was right there, in the room, but they couldn't see me. I could walk around, look at everything from different angles. And the bench… the bench was always there, somehow. In his house, in the park he played in, even on a battlefield, it was just… there.]
Dr. Fields: [A battlefield?]
D-7033-01: [Yeah. He was a soldier for a bit. Saw some tough stuff. But then… then he came home and helped build this town up. He was just a regular guy, really. But his life… it was so full. I saw him get married, have kids, lose people he loved. It was beautiful, doc. Made me think about my own life.]
Dr. Fields: [Do you remember any specific names or dates?]D-7033-01: [ Frowns, concentrating~ Uh… no. It's like… it's fading. Like a really vivid dream that slips away. But the feeling of it… that's sticking.]
Dr. Fields: [Thank you for your cooperation, D-7033, that will be all.]
<End Log>Closing Statement: Amnestics were administered following the interview. D-7033-01 exhibited no lingering anomalous effects or memories of the experience on subsequent evaluations. The consistent presence of the bench within the visions remains an interesting aspect of the anomaly.
