Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-9942 is contained within a standard Humanoid Containment Anomalous Unit (HCAU-348) at Site-17. The unit is furnished with a soft bed, sofa, television, private bathroom, and a dedicated weapon rack. SCP-9942-A is stored on the rack and undergoes weekly maintenance inspection.

A soaking protocol must be performed daily: bathroom water temperature is maintained at 38°C, with a single session duration of no less than 60 minutes and no more than 90 minutes. Exceeding this time limit will automatically trigger the drainage and ventilation systems. Interruption of this protocol will trigger a containment breach procedure escalation.

All direct contact with SCP-9942 must be accompanied by at least two armed security personnel equipped with non-lethal restraint devices (electroshock batons, capture nets). In the event of a containment breach where non-lethal measures prove ineffective, the use of blunt instruments for targeted strikes to limb joints is authorized, provided that personnel are made aware of the SCP-9942-D synesthetic effect risk beforehand.

All furniture and facility edges within the containment unit must be blunted. SCP-9942 receives a daily psychiatric evaluation, conducted by a Foundation psychologist with experience in treating violent personality disorders.

Description:

SCP-9942 is a humanoid entity of indeterminate age, presenting with phenotypic traits consistent with East Asian populations. Anthropometric analysis records height at 170.2cm ± 0.3cm and muscle density significantly above baseline human norms, though no clear etiology for this hypertonicity has been identified. The entity's facial features and vocal patterns trigger consistent, subjectively reported "familiarity" in observers of East Asian descent, an effect currently under investigation as a possible low-level memetic component. Attempts to determine the entity's identity through dental or skeletal records have yielded no matches.

SCP-9942 wears a non-removable standard white patient gown, the material analysis of which reveals anomalous fiber structure inconsistent with any known medical institution's standard uniform. Attempts to cut or peel the garment cause SCP-9942 to experience severe pain responses (see Appendix 9942-03).

SCP-9942 possesses an anomalous weapon, SCP-9942-A: a large board-style blade with an extremely dulled edge, massing approximately 18kg. Despite its physical structure not conforming to any known weapon design, SCP-9942 is capable of using this weapon for blunt-force strikes with anomalous efficiency. SCP-9942-A cannot be effectively wielded by any entity other than SCP-9942; those attempting to do so report feeling "an indescribable heaviness and repulsion."

Anomalous Physiological Profile:

SCP-9942's tissue structure exhibits a singular anomalous property: an inverse relationship between tissue depth and nociceptive response.

· Surface tissues (epidermis, dermis): Demonstrate markedly attenuated pain conduction and significantly elevated tensile strength (tested to withstand up to 9mm Parabellum rounds at 15m). This is believed to be a secondary adaptation to the entity's primary anomaly.
· Deep tissues (bone, nerve trunks, viscera): Pain conduction remains within baseline human parameters. However, these tissues exhibit a regenerative capacity approximately 2-3 times standard human healing rates for non-lethal damage. This regeneration appears to be metabolically costly, requiring sustained caloric intake and extended periods of physiological rest (see Soaking Protocol).
· Musculoskeletal system: Exhibits output efficiency exceeding baseline human norms by a factor of approximately 4.2x, sufficient to fracture reinforced concrete with unassisted strikes. The mechanism is hypothesized to be anomalous neuromuscular potentiation, though no neurological or biochemical basis has been identified. This output appears directly correlated with the entity's psychological state: elevated aggression correlates with measured increases in exerted force.

Anomalous Abilities:

SCP-9942's anomalous capabilities are best understood as a hunting cycle, consisting of three distinct but interlinked phases:

· Phase 1 — Acquisition (SCP-9942-B): The entity designates a target via a visual locking mechanism, characterized by vertical pupilary contraction. Once locked, the target experiences a progressive, escalating sense of surveillance. This effect is unidirectional; no successful interruption has been achieved, though its maximum effective range remains under investigation.
· Phase 2 — Engagement (SCP-9942-C): Combat with SCP-9942 is characterized by extended engagement times (median 94 minutes). The entity does not employ rapid termination tactics; instead, it systematically degrades the target's combat capability through repeated blunt-force trauma, typically targeting extremities before advancing to core regions. This tactic is consistent with the entity's observed physiological limitation: deep-tissue pain triggers a debilitating collapse state (see SCP-9942-D), and SCP-9942 appears to avoid inflicting such damage on itself by avoiding targets capable of mounting effective resistance.
· Phase 3 — Resolution: Following a successful engagement, SCP-9942 returns to its containment unit and initiates the Soaking Protocol. This behavior is classified as a psychologically necessary reset mechanism; deprivation of this protocol results in increased aggression and decreased tactical discrimination over a 48-hour period.

SCP-9942-D (Pain Sympathy):

When SCP-9942 enters its collapse state due to deep-tissue trauma, the entity responsible for inflicting that trauma immediately experiences a synchronized pain response, matching both the intensity and the psychological terror profile of SCP-9942's own experience. This effect persists for the duration of SCP-9942's collapse state (typically 15-45 minutes) and cannot be mitigated by analgesics, anesthetics, or amnestic intervention. Multiple stacks have been observed when SCP-9942 receives sequential damage during a single collapse event.

This effect is theorized to be the primary defensive adaptation of SCP-9942's anomaly. The entity's surface durability and hunting tactics are understood to be evolutionary responses to this limitation: it cannot afford to be genuinely hurt, so it ensures that no opponent can survive long enough to inflict that hurt, or is psychologically broken before they attempt to.

Appendix 9942-1: Behavioral Observation

SCP-9942's post-engagement behavior demonstrates a consistent pattern:

1. Return to containment unit or temporary safe area
2. Place SCP-9942-A on the weapon rack
3. Enter the bathroom and submerge in warm water
4. Duration: 60-90 minutes
5. During this period, responses to external stimuli are blunted, presenting as a dissociative state

Psychologist Dr. ████ hypothesizes this behavior serves as SCP-9942's self-regulatory mechanism, used to process psychological stress accumulated during hunting. Interruption of this process results in a marked increase in aggression frequency over the subsequent 48 hours.

SCP-9942 exhibits anomalous writing capability: its writing speed is extremely slow when producing any text. When requested to write its own name, it ceases after completing only the first letter "A," requiring 6 seconds to do so. Analysis of this behavior is ongoing; SCP-9942 has refused to elaborate, and no psychological model has yet accounted for the observed consistency of the response across repeated trials.

Appendix 9942-2: Incident Logs

Incident 9942-03
Date: 20██/██/██
Description: During a routine inspection, D-4451 attempted to cut SCP-9942's patient gown with a concealed blade. The blade fractured; SCP-9942 exhibited no pain response. D-4451 was subsequently struck on the lower extremities by SCP-9942 using SCP-9942-A, resulting in bilateral comminuted tibial fractures. SCP-9942 continued striking the incapacitated D-4451 until security intervention. Cause of death was determined to be multiple traumatic injuries.
Follow-up: SCP-9942 soaked in the bathroom for 2 hours and 15 minutes post-incident, exceeding standard duration.

Incident 9942-07
Date: 20██/██/██
Description: During a containment breach event, Security Agent ████ struck SCP-9942's right knee joint with a baton, resulting in patellar fracture. SCP-9942 immediately collapsed. Agent ████ simultaneously collapsed and screamed, exhibiting trauma responses consistent with SCP-9942's. Both subjects convulsed synchronously on the floor for 17 minutes.
Follow-up: Agent ████ underwent psychiatric treatment for 6 months before returning to duty, but reported "still feeling that fear, on rainy days." SCP-9942's knee joint healed within 4 days.

Appendix 9942-3: Interview Excerpt

Subject: SCP-9942
Interviewer: Dr. ████

Dr. ████: Why do you… sometimes not kill them? Just break their legs?
SCP-9942: [Long silence, pupils contract into slits] …Not enough soaking yet.
Dr. ████: What do you mean?
SCP-9942: [Looks toward bathroom] Baths… one at a time. People… one at a time.
Dr. ████: And the mutilation of corpses? Those who were already dead—
SCP-9942: [Interrupts] Water gets cold. Then you change it. Once it's changed… [Pause] …then you can soak the next one.

[Interview terminated. SCP-9942 refused to continue, entered the bathroom.]

[Post-Interview Note]:
Following the interview, SCP-9942 was provided with a notepad and asked to write its preferred designation. It produced the character "愛" (approximately 4 minutes to complete), followed by the katakana "ノドン" (approximately 6 minutes). When asked to clarify, SCP-9942 stated only: "That's what I am."
This designation has been provisionally recorded in internal documentation as "Ai no Don" for reference purposes.

Appendix 9942-4: Researcher's Notes

SCP-9942's danger does not lie in its strength or that blunt blade.
It lies in the rhythm.

It will not grant you a swift death. It will give you a war you cannot win and cannot flee from. Its eyes lock onto you, its blade follows, and time grows viscous around it. You will tire, you will fear, you will break—and it will still be swinging.

The most horrifying part is its "fairness": if you genuinely make it hurt, it will drag you into its fear. That is not revenge. That is forced empathy. It does not collapse alone.

We gave it a weapon rack, a soft bed, a television, and a bathroom. Not out of mercy. Because a soaking SCP-9942 is a hundred times more containable than one roaming the corridors.
