SCP-2021 pre-containment.

Item #: SCP-2021

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2021 is to be kept in a standard Safe-class containment locker at Site-22. Access to SCP-2021 is restricted to Level 2 personnel and above. Testing involving SCP-2021 requires prior approval from at least one Level 3 personnel.

Description: SCP-2021 is an anomalous vending machine, measuring 2 meters in height, 1 meter in width, and 1 meter in depth. The machine is constructed of a combination of stainless steel and glass, and it bears no manufacturer marks or branding.

SCP-2021’s front panel features a standard vending machine interface, including a digital display, a keypad, and a dispensing slot. Despite not being connected to any power source, SCP-2021 is fully operational. When a person enters a selection on the keypad and inserts any form of currency into the machine, the display will show a random product code, and the machine will dispense a corresponding item.

Items dispensed by SCP-2021 are non-anomalous and range from everyday snacks and beverages to more unusual items such as obsolete electronics, rare books, or seemingly random objects like a single shoe or an antique key. The selection appears to be completely random, and there is no discernible pattern in the types of items dispensed.

Repeated use of SCP-2021 has not shown any adverse effects on users. However, testing is ongoing to determine the potential limits and nature of its inventory. Notably, SCP-2021 has never dispensed any items that are harmful or dangerous.

Addendum 2021-A:

On ██/██/2021, Dr. █████ conducted an experiment where SCP-2021 was used 100 times consecutively. The items dispensed included:

- 23 snack items (chips, chocolate bars, etc.)
- 17 beverages (soda cans, bottled water, etc.)
- 10 pieces of obsolete technology (e.g., a rotary phone, a VHS tape)
- 15 random household items (e.g., a toothbrush, a candle)
- 5 pieces of clothing (e.g., a single glove, a hat)
- 20 miscellaneous items (e.g., a small potted plant, a novel in French)

None of the items appeared to have any anomalous properties, and all were consistent with standard, non-anomalous objects.

Addendum 2021-B:

During a subsequent test, SCP-2021 dispensed an object of interest: a postcard depicting Site-22, dated 1953. The postcard contained a handwritten message reading: “Greetings from the past! Keep up the good work.” The origin of the postcard is under investigation, and further testing is required to determine any potential time-related anomalies associated with SCP-2021.

Conclusion:

SCP-2021 remains a subject of interest due to its unpredictable nature and the potential implications of the items it dispenses. Research into the mechanism and origin of SCP-2021 is ongoing. For now, it is considered Safe, with no immediate threat posed by its operation.
