Item #: SCP-3994-A-2
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3994-A-2 is contained in a standard Category-A chamber at Site-42’s anomalous subject wing (reallocated from Site-92 in 9/18/████). The chamber door and ventilation systems are reinforced identically to other SCP-3994 cells: a maintained positive pressure seal and double-lock mechanism prevent any unauthorized egress. Under current protocols, A-2 is allowed up to 30 minutes outside its primary chamber per day under armed supervision, limited to the southern wing of Site-42 and always accompanied by two security personnel. During these supervised sessions, A-2 is permitted to move freely but may not access personnel-only areas.
Media and educational materials provided to A-2 are strictly curated: only Foundation-approved datasets and innocuous human media (e.g. nature documentaries, textbooks) are allowed, in compliance with Addendum 3994-A-02 . Under no circumstances may A-2 be exposed to news, personnel records, or unfiltered information about SCP-3994 or its own nature. All staff interacting with A-2 must address it by the alias “Dr. Micheal Skinner” and behave as if it is a bona fide Site-42 staff psychiatrist. Written logs and communication records treat SCP-3994-A-2 as if it were Dr. Skinner, including providing it limited access to medical databases for research.
If A-2’s behavior deviates from these protocols, immediate lockdown of its containment sector is authorized. Despite A-2’s cooperative demeanor, daily health checks monitor its shell integrity and mental state. Any signs of increased agitation or escape attempts will result in the reclassification of A-2 as Euclid and revocation of privileges.
Description: SCP-3994-A-2 is a mobile sapient entity belonging to the SCP-3994 cluster. Like other 3994-A (Category-A) instances, A-2 inhabits an anatomically normal human “shell.” Its current shell is a near-exact replica of Dr. Theron Sherman, Director of Site-42, and it has adopted the identity “Dr. Micheal Skinner.” Foundation records show A-2 assumed this particular form on or about 7/8/████, shortly after which Dr. Sherman himself transferred from Site-92 to Site-42.
Over seven years of observation (intensive monitoring began on 3/7/████ under Senior Researcher Dr. Koffman and Dr. ███████), A-2 has exhibited an unusually passive and solitary profile compared to other instances. Notable behavioral observations include:
Inactivity with Other Instances: A-2 shows negligible social or sexual interest in fellow SCP-3994 subjects. It does not join in group activities, combat drills, or mating behaviors that have been observed in other category-A instances. In seven years, there are no recorded attempts by A-2 to engage any other instance beyond occasional cooperative gestures (e.g splitting tasks). It has produced no offspring (no visible intent to create new shells), nor has it displayed aggression toward others.
Containment Breaches: In the 19 documented breaches of SCP-3994 containment (three of which were deliberately staged for research), A-2 remained secure and inactive. It never attempted to escape or sabotage containment, even when neighboring cells were compromised. During one breach simulation on 4/29/████, all staff noted A-2 simply retreated to a corner of its chamber and did not interfere.
Imitation of Personnel: A-2 periodically exits its cell unescorted for short periods, typically at night. On these rare occasions it is observed copying the appearance and mannerisms of on-duty personnel (e.g. wearing a doctor’s coat and clipboard). Such excursions have lasted 1–2 hours before A-2 returns on its own. It seems to adopt routines (e.g. eating at the cafeteria, standing quietly in hallways) then abandons them. Crucially, it has not committed any theft or accessed restricted files during these visits. Each time it performs these mimicry excursions, A-2’s shell reverts to Dr. Sherman’s likeness immediately afterward.
Academic Interests: Uniquely among SCP-3994, A-2 has independently researched other anomalies. Security logs show that on 7/23/████ and several subsequent dates, A-2 accessed SCP database terminals to read files on SCP-030 and SCP-682. These are the only files A-2 has ever requested or viewed without direct prompting. Foundation psychologists speculate A-2 finds these specific cases intellectually significant, though its motives are unclear. (No protocol breach occurred as it only viewed open-access documentation; no attempt was made to copy or transmit data.)
Language and Cognition: Early records indicate A-2’s speech began as pure mimicry. Initial interviews had it repeating lines word-for-word from staff responses or security training videos. Over time, however, A-2 began constructing original sentences in some what comprehensible English without prompting. It now speaks with clear grammar and demonstrates understanding of abstract concepts. In the most recent interviews, A-2 asks thoughtful questions about the Foundation’s goals and expresses opinions (e.g. on the ethics of containment). This language development matches known SCP-3994 behavior, but A-2’s transition to nuanced communication is unusually rapid.
Adopted Persona: SCP-3994-A-2 calls itself “Dr. Micheal Skinner” at all times. Although physically identical to Director Sherman, A-2 insists it is not Sherman but a separate entity. It recounts a fabricated backstory in which “Dr. Michael Skinner” was hired to advise Site-42 on psychological affairs. A-2 consistently answers to this name and treats other staff as coworkers rather than captors. This persona appears genuine: it has decorated its area with official-looking credentials and engages in scholarly discussion in character. The reason for choosing Dr. Sherman’s appearance while claiming a different identity is unknown.
Shell Integrity: An outstanding anomaly is that A-2’s shell has not decayed despite the typical Category-A timeline. Foundation data indicate shell decay normally begins 1–4 months after formation and completes within a year. SCP-3994-A-2’s shell was created ████/████ and remains intact with no signs of degeneration after seven years. Regular scans show no mass loss or ruptures. Attempts to artificially initiate decay (acid baths, electrical disruption) have no effect. A-2’s refusal to exit containment fully (thus avoiding environmental hazards) might contribute, but this persistence far exceeds all other known instances.
Based on these factors, SCP-3994-A-2 is contained as per standard Category-A protocols with additional accommodations for research purposes. Its cooperation is carefully monitored. Current hypotheses for A-2’s behavior range from an anomalous “self-hypnosis” to an undeveloped telepathic strategy, but no theory is confirmed.
