Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8841 is to be secured within a double-layered steel case fitted with three ultraviolet light sources. The container is housed inside a reinforced, double-layered bulletproof glass enclosure and must remain under continuous 24-hour surveillance.
Access to SCP-8841 is restricted to personnel with Level-4 clearance or higher.
For transport or direct handling, SCP-8841 is to be placed in a triple-layered steel case equipped with internal ultraviolet lighting. Movement of the object must be escorted by no fewer than four armed security personnel assigned to MTF Epsilon-11 (“Nine-Tailed Fox”). Handling may only be performed remotely or with approved containment tools.
In the event of a containment breach, all personnel are to maintain a distance of 1–2 meters from SCP-8841 until recovery teams re-establish control. Ultraviolet light is to be deployed during recovery operations, and direct contact is strictly forbidden. Only mechanical tongs are authorized for physical interaction, and handling must be carried out as quickly as possible to reduce exposure risk.
Any black viscous substance secreted by SCP-8841 must be absorbed with oil-treated cloths or towels, then sterilized with ultraviolet light until the contaminated area is fully neutralized.
Description:
SCP-8841 is a large metallic ring with a dark-purple gemstone inset into its surface. When inactive, SCP-8841 displays no measurable anomalous properties beyond minor electromagnetic interference. Anomalous activity occurs immediately upon direct contact with organic tissue.
Within five to ten minutes of exposure, subjects exhibit extreme nausea, migraine headaches, scleral blackening, secretion of a viscous black substance (chemically similar to SCP-106 secretions), and rapid epidermal necrosis. Most subjects expire within 10–15 minutes.
In rare instances (approx. 3% of cases), SCP-8841 will not kill the subject but instead designate them as a host (hereafter SCP-8841-1). These hosts retain mobility and exhibit several anomalous abilities, including:
- Inducing necrosis in living organisms through direct touch.
- Phasing of limbs, or in rare cases the entire body, through solid matter.
- Generation of elongated, root-like appendages composed of black organic matter capable of piercing or constricting targets.
Psychological evaluations of SCP-8841-1 indicate that the entity exerts significant mental influence over its hosts, often suppressing voluntary motor control. Hosts describe intermittent awareness, though most report being “pushed aside” by SCP-8841’s will. Prolonged possession invariably results in total loss of autonomy, followed by catastrophic structural collapse of the host’s body.
In extremely rare cases (estimated <0.5%), SCP-8841 has demonstrated the ability to alter local reality and temporal progression. Recorded incidents include spontaneous displacement of objects, localized reversals of time flow lasting several seconds, and unexplained removal of data from both written and electronic records. Whether these effects are intentional actions by SCP-8841 or uncontrolled byproducts of its influence is unknown.
Addendum 8841-1: Recovery Log
SCP-8841 was recovered in ███████, Romania, after reports of multiple unexplained civilian deaths. Witnesses described an individual “with black eyes, bleeding tar” responsible for at least ██ casualties. The entity expired under unknown circumstances, coinciding with a brief temporal distortion recorded in the area. SCP-8841 was discovered on the altar of a ruined church and transferred to Foundation custody.
