Item #: SCP-9998

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-9998’s mobile nature, a large containment area (30km by 30km) has been built around it. To the public, it is a private reservation within the state of ██████. No on-site personnel (with the exception of D Class) are to approach SCP-9998 at any time for their own safety. Direct interaction with SCP-9998 is permitted only for the purpose of research approved by on duty administration. The area is to be monitored by site security (At the Request of Dr. G██████. See Incident 8928-A) and any authorized individual entering or exiting the area must be injected with a transmitting device that can be activated from Overwatch Control. A lock-box in Dr. G██████'s office is to house the key to the car's ignition as well as the ████ that was retrieved on that July ██, ████. Currently, it is impossible to track SCP-9998 during the trip visually be it by land, air, or satellite (See Experiment 1) and instead be tracked by either motion detectors along Route ██, tracking device planted in test subjects, or other forms of non-visual tracking equipment. Any testing done with SCP-9998 must be conducted with D-Class personnel, or if requested, expendable research personnel that request direct contact. SCP-9998-1 is not to be interfered with in any sort of manner, which includes but is not limited to, communicating, keeping eye contact, and approaching the instance. No further research or communication should be conducted until further notice by the Ethics Committee (Incident 78-C).

Description: SCP-9998 is a two door McLaren 720S that has been totaled by a roll over accident, presumably pushing the limits of the vehicle. In its dormant state, a majority of the vehicle is rusted out along with the lack of an engine and other major components that were lost in the accident. Despite this, SCP-9998 manages to run just like a normal car as if it was fully functional in its activation. Apart from its current state, the car itself never seems to experience damage ([DATA CORRUPTED]) or wear and tear such as its tires.

All subjects must not be informed of the firearm that is present in the dashboard of SCP-9998. Any attempts to remove or disable said firearm proves ineffective. If the subject knows the location of the firearm prior to the test, the test is required to be automatically terminated. When a subject sits in the driver's seat and presses the ignition, with its key in the body of the car, the car immediately disappears to all nearby eye witnesses and aerial surveillance, confirming SCP-9998 is activated. Around 5 - ██ minutes, SCP-9998 is located on Route ██ driving at abnormally high speeds (around 400 km/h - 520 km/h). There are three stages to SCP-9998’s activation which last no more than 12 hours. If any stage lasts longer than previously stated, please contact Dr.G██████.

Stage 1 — Can last 1 hour to █ hours. Subject inside SCP-9998 continues to drive at abnormally high speeds on the road and few times has driven on unmarked dirt roads but with slower speeds (around 300km/h). There is a 68% chance that SCP-9998 crashes during this time which all result in a rollover, totaling the car to its identical dormant state. All drivers that crash the car do not survive. SCP-9998 is immediately placed in its original crash site position. All subjects that survive this stage seem to have either 1) Previous driving experience 2) No major misdemeanors (ie. DUI) 3) Sane.
Stage 2 — If the subject survives Stage 1, they will go into Stage 2 of SCP-9998 which can last 3 hours to █ hours. It is reported they are immediately transferred to the city of ███ █████ but is inhabited by any life form besides the subject and SCP-9998-1. Witnesses report seeing SCP-9998-1 during this stage either in the front seat or watching from a distance. The subject continues to drive erratically and reports suffering hallucinations throughout the drive (Interview Log X98-1) including suffering physical harm (*autopsy's show it is still prevalent after subject has left SCP-9998*). Most subjects in Stage 2 die of intense psychosis shortly after a stroke, but few subjects have died due to the same reasons in Stage 1.
Stage 3 — Does not last more than one hour and only 2 out of ██ subjects have survived this stage. The subject arrives back at the crash site from ███ █████ where SCP-9998 would lay in its dormant state. Immediately after SCP-9998 stops at its current position, it is prudent that all subjects immediately leave the area and do not interfere with SCP-9998-1, even for research purposes under the request of Dr. G██████.

SCP-9998-1 is a female human of American descent. Records indicate that SCP-9998-1 was born in ████, making her ██ years old, before shortly expiring the night of July ██, ████. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and at the time of this article, is reportedly .75 meters in height and of average build. She does not appear to have any out-of-the-ordinary physical characteristics and appears to be a normal girl wearing a white dress. During Stage 2 or 3, Individuals that have interfered with SCP-9998-1 experience extreme guilt and anxiety, shown by the activity in the prefrontal cortex, and proceed to attempt suicide with the firearm located in the dashboard of SCP-9998. If the firearm hasn’t been located by the subject previously, the subject will now be referred to as SCP-9998-2 and will undergo special screening and treatment over the next two months for psycho evaluation. If left unchecked, SCP-9998-2 will proceed to attempt suicide in other grusome manners including harming other individuals in the process they may see to alleviate pain.

Interview Log X98-1

Date: November █, 20██
Interviewee: SCP-9998-2-██
Interviewer: Dr. ██████
Notes: SCP-9998-2-██, formerly #D█████, was recovered in September █, 20██ and has almost completed his psych evaluation test, but has been cleared for questioning. Some memories have been reported as missing, or how the subject puts it, altered. A majority of these answers are to be taken with further investigation.
[BEGIN LOG]

Dr. ██████: Please identify yourself.
SCP-9998-2-██: My…my name is John █████████. Bor-rn in ███ ██, of 19-19██
Dr. ██████: That's good. Just to inform you if at any point you feel uncomfortable, sick, anxious, or any other negative emotions, please let me know and we’ll escort you back to your room. ~sigh~ We’ll begin light. How are you feeling?
SCP-9998-2-██: I… I don't even know how to describe this. It's…it’s painful. This feeling of dread no matter what I go through..it just doesn’t go away. I just keep remembering that night… I was driving my car… coming home from…never mind.
Dr. ██████: Please, any information you can give us about what happened that night will be extremely useful to the both of us.
SCP-9998-2-██: My mind keeps playing tricks on me, almost if I’m looking at two different tv screens and I can’t tell which one apart! Please…this has to be [unintelligible].
Dr. ██████: So you remember being in a car. Do you have any idea how you got there?
SCP-9998-2-██: I-…I remember, but it’s hazy. I remember a man, dressed in…white..a Doctor! He gave me a key and told me to not look in..umm…in the dashboard. I couldn’t…I wasn’t in control of my own head when that car started…However the fuck that junk started.
Dr. ██████: As if you weren’t in full control of your own body?
SCP-9998-2-██: I remember having full control of my body…but it was like somebody else was moving the wheel. Those thoughts weren’t my thoughts and that [unintelligible]…that wasn’t mine. There was someone or something else there with me, like a forcing backseat driver…those lights. I was in the city of ███ █████ and…it was like the car was in full working condition. The roar of the engine, the sound of the air whistling through the cracked window, the….the kid.
Dr. ██████: Do you know who that girl is?
SCP-9998-2-██: I don’t ever…want to see that fucking kid again. You hear me? I don’t EVER want to see her again!
Dr. ██████: Calm down Mr.█████████, you’re safe here. Please, continue.
SCP-9998-2-██: In the city I saw glimpses, like reliving memories that weren’t my own. A man…he had the face of a killer, he kept on beating me over and over and over…I couldn’t stop it. Next I knew…I was fucking driving again..but…that person…that person in the mirror wasn’t me….wait…this…this isn’t…me.
Dr. ██████: What do you mean, "you aren't you"?
SCP-9998-2-██: Don't you get it? This isn't me! I'm not me!

At this point SCP-9998-2-██ became severely agitated and started to bleed through his restraints

Dr. ██████: Would you please explain what you mean?
SCP-9998-2-██: This. Is. Not. Me. I saw my reflection in the window! This isn't me! Please, let me go! Let me go! Let me go! I’m sorry, I’m so fucking sor-

[END LOG]
Following the last statement, SCP-9998-2-██ should not be questioned further until complete psychological restoration. Interviews, in the future, should not be conducted with any SCP-9998-2 instances until they have complete sanity. Note: Who's the dumbass that wanted to interview a person suffering with severe psychosis?

Experiment Logs:

Purpose: Determine connection between driver and SCP-9998. All experiments were conducted with subjects of mixed criminal backgrounds. Ethnicity and religion were not taken into consideration. Note: The EC has decided these experiments are of little value and have caused more harm than good. It can be correlated that previous driving experience and history of said driver results in how long the subject lives. These are the unclassified results:

Experiment 1 — Subject arrested for larceny, and has minor driving experience dies in Stage 2
Experiment 4 — Subject arrested for grand theft after fleeing from crime scene dies in Stage 1
Experiment 5 — Subject with history of minor driving misdemeanors dies in Stage 2
Experiment 8 — Subject with no driving experience dies in Stage 2
Experiment 13 — Subject that was once a taxi driver, notably never in any crash accident or involvement with police officials, survives SCP-9998.
Experiment 17 / Incident 8928-A — [Unauthorized Test] Subject, formerly known as Researcher M██████ ████ accessed SCP-9998’s containment area on August █, 20██, at 20:32 with driver key with the intent to use SCP-9998. M██████ ████ entered SCP-9998 and left before security personnel could reach the location in time. Subject survived until Stage 3 where security personnel were instructed to remain clear of the area while SCP-9998-1 was present. M██████ ████ approached SCP-9998-1, communicating with said subject for a total of 38 seconds. SCP-9998-1 then disappeared where M██████ ████ returned to the vehicle, retrieved the known firearm from the dashboard, and shot himself in the frontal skull once before expiring. Investigation has been conducted resolving this incident.
Experiment 18 / Incident 8928-B – Subject #D█████ was instructed to enter SCP-9998 and activate the vehicle. Subject #D█████, before entering SCP-9998, stopped abruptly and reported voices in his head telling him to stop. On-site security personnel instructed #D█████ to continue the test or be terminated. Subject #D█████ complied. SCP-9998, instead of disappearing from the visual spectrum, immediately took off towards security outpost Alpha. Security teams on standby were instructed to keep SCP-9998 in visual range at all times. SCP-9998 began to gain speed, faster than usually noted. SCP-9998 approached the outpost at a speed of ████kph. Satellite imaging showed SCP-9998 rammed into the side of security outpost Alpha causing a major explosion, destroying the entire outpost and all security personnel within a ████ radius. Subject #D█████ is to be considered lost. SCP-9998 returned to its dormant state with a note that read: Never again.
