rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-6517

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-6517 is to be kept in a standard Safe-class containment locker when not in use. Testing is only to be conducted with prior approval from Level 3 personnel. Any instance of SCP-6517-1 is to be terminated immediately upon detection.

SCP-6517 is not to be operated in the presence of any personnel for longer than 10 seconds without specialized anti-cognitive filters in place.

If SCP-6517 activates outside of testing conditions or containment, all instances of SCP-6517-1 should be neutralized and the area secured immediately. Mobile Task Force Epsilon-6 ("Village Idiots") is to be dispatched to locate and contain any SCP-2 instances.

Description: SCP-6517 is a television set resembling models produced in the 1950s to 1960s, characterized by a black-and-white display and a bulky, wooden exterior. When turned on, SCP-6517 initially displays static for approximately 10 seconds before showing a random series of unsettling images. These images vary but commonly include the following:

- A handprint with an eye symbol in the palm.
- Triangles with eyes in the centre.
- Unsettling imagery of uncanny faces with distorted features.

These images are accompanied by background audio resembling broadcasts typical of the 1950s and 60s, including game shows, cartoons, advertisements, and news reports. The language used in these broadcasts is unidentifiable but bears similarities to Russian.

Individuals who come within the vicinity of SCP-6517 report an irresistible urge to look at the screen. If their gaze is not interrupted within 10 seconds, they become entranced and unable to look away. This effect progresses as follows:

- 0-3 minutes: The individual will inch closer to SCP-6517, staring intently at the screen.

- 3-7 minutes: The individual begins to drool, and their head movements become jerky and erratic, similar to stop-motion animation.

- 7-10 minutes: The individual's facial features begin to distort, as if being "scrubbed" clean by the rays emitted from SCP-6517. Their skin turns a greyish colour, and their face appears to implode or sink into their skull, creating twisted folds of flesh, with some subjects exhibiting concave facial structures.

At this stage, the individual is classified as SCP-6517-1. SCP-6517-1 instances are passive unless their view of SCP-6517 is obstructed or interrupted. In such cases, they become highly aggressive, attacking anyone who attempts to interfere with their connection to SCP-6517. When provoked, SCP-6517-1 will attempt to chase the provoker down and emit a Resonance Frequency from their head so powerful, it is capable of causing immediate brain failure in the targeted individual as long as they are in arms lengths distance.

SCP-6517-1 instances exhibit an innate ability to locate other instances of SCP-6517 or SCP-6517-2 within a 5-minute window. If an SCP-6517-1 instance fails to locate another instance of SCP-6517 or SCP-6517-2 within this timeframe, they will disintegrate, leaving behind only their clothing.

After 30 minutes to an hour of continuous exposure, SCP-6517 or any instances will emit a high-pitched ringing, and the screen will flicker before the monitor explodes, sending shards of glass outward. When this occurs, any SCP-6517-1 instances within visual range of SCP-6517 will disintegrate, again leaving only their clothing. Following this event, SCP-6517's anomalous properties will transfer to the nearest television monitor, which then becomes SCP-6517-2. There can be multiple SCP-6517-2 instances, all exhibiting the same properties as SCP-6517.

Discovery Log XXXX-1: Initial Containment of SCP-6517

Date: █4/0█/████
Location: [REDACTED], an abandoned antique shop in rural [REDACTED]

Background:

SCP-6517 was discovered on █4/0█/████ in a dilapidated antique shop located in a small town in [REDACTED]. The shop had been abandoned for decades, with local records indicating its last owner, one Mr. Harold Finch, mysteriously disappeared in the early 1960s. The building had fallen into severe disrepair, with boarded-up windows, a collapsed roof, and overgrown vegetation reclaiming much of the structure.

The shop's existence was largely forgotten, except for occasional mentions in local folklore, where it was rumored to be haunted. Several stories from the town’s older residents spoke of weird noises, and flickering lights despite the building being unoccupied.

Discovery:

The Foundation became aware of SCP-6517 after a series of unusual incidents reported by local youths who had dared each other to explore the old shop. Several of the teenagers involved went missing, prompting a police investigation. A Foundation agent embedded within the local police force flagged the case due to the strange nature of the disappearances, particularly after witnesses reported seeing flickering lights from within the shop and hearing distorted voices in an unknown language.

A containment team was dispatched to investigate, posed as officers. Upon entering the shop, they found it in a state of significant disrepair, with dust-covered furniture and antiques scattered throughout. In the center of the main showroom, surrounded by a circle of toppled chairs, was SCP-6517. Despite the power being disconnected, SCP-6517 was found turned on, displaying static on its screen.

The team discovered several sets of clothes arranged around SCP-6517, as if their owners had simply vanished, leaving their garments behind. Initial attempts to turn off SCP-6517 were unsuccessful, and one agent became mesmerized by the screen before the team could intervene, resulting in the first documented instance of SCP-6517-1.

Post-Recovery Analysis:

Further examination of the shop's records revealed that Harold Finch, the shop’s owner, had been an eccentric collector of oddities and rare artefacts. He was known to have an interest in the occult and was reportedly obsessed with a particular television set he claimed to have acquired from a Soviet defector in the late 1950s. Mr. Finch was last seen in the shop shortly before his disappearance, leading to speculation that SCP-6517 might have played a role in his fate.

Local accounts describe Finch as a reclusive figure who, in his final days, spoke of "visions" and "messages" coming through the television, insisting that it showed him images and broadcasts from "another world." His obsession with the television grew to the point where he allegedly barricaded himself in the shop, refusing to let anyone near the device.

The connection between Finch and SCP-6517 remains speculative, as no conclusive evidence of his fate has been found. The shop itself was secured by the Foundation, and all items within were catalogued and removed for further study. SCP-6517 was transported to Site-1█ for containment and analysis.

Addendum XXXX-2: Behavioural Analysis of SCP-6517-1 Instances

Date: 0█/19/20██
Lead Researcher: Dr. █████ Hyde

A series of experiments were conducted to better understand the behaviour and physical capabilities of SCP-6517-1 instances when in pursuit of SCP-6517 or its active instances (designated SCP-6517-2).

Experiment Log XXXX-1-A:
D-83██ was exposed to SCP-6517 and allowed to enter the mesmerized state. SCP-6517 was then moved to various locations to observe the pursuit behaviour of the now designated SCP-6517-1.

Findings:
- SCP-6517-1 instances exhibit relentless pursuit of SCP-6517 at a jittery walking pace like a robot, characterized by a forward-slumped posture. They continue to move towards SCP-6517 with unwavering determination, regardless of obstacles in their path.
- SCP-6517-1 shows a complete lack of pain response. When SCP-6517 was placed behind a glass barrier, the SCP-6517-1 instance walked into the glass without hesitation, eventually collapsing through the barrier after repeated impacts, sustaining multiple lacerations without any apparent distress.
- Despite the physical damage sustained, SCP-6517-1 continued its pursuit until its body was rendered physically incapable of movement. This suggests a disconnection between the mind and body, where the cognitive drive to reach SCP-6517 overrides all other bodily functions and pain signals.

Experiment Log XXXX-1-B:
Further tests were conducted to assess the physical capabilities and environmental awareness of SCP-6517-1 instances.

Findings:
- SCP-6517-1 instances demonstrate enhanced physical strength. In several cases, SCP-6517-1 was observed bashing through locked doors after repeated strikes and even breaking through fragile walls and floors when SCP-6517 was placed behind them.
- SCP-6517-1 is entirely oblivious to its surroundings while in pursuit. Instances will ignore all other people unless someone directly obstructs their path to SCP-6517. In one test, an SCP-6517-1 instance walked off the edge of a raised platform, plummeting into a pit without hesitation or reaction to the fall, resulting in significant bodily harm. Despite the injuries, the SCP-6517-1 instance attempted to crawl towards SCP-6517 until it could no longer move.

- SCP-6517-1 instances exhibit reckless disregard for their bodies, frequently causing self-harm through collisions with obstacles or falls. However, they seem to retain a basic level of self-preservation in situations where immediate death is likely, such as avoiding contact with fire or lethal drops, unless SCP-6517 or an SCP-6517-2 instance is in direct proximity. In these cases, they will sacrifice their bodies in the attempt to reach them.

Note: Due to the potential for SCP-6517 to transfer its anomalous properties to any television monitor, all Foundation facilities are advised to limit the use of non-essential television equipment to prevent accidental containment breaches.
