Item #: SCP-9521
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
Due to the extreme physical strength and highly infectious nature of SCP-9521, a strict Zero-Contact Protocol is enforced. All five (5) contained instances are to be isolated in individual, subterranean reinforced steel containment vaults at Sector-9. Vault doors must be constructed of 30-centimeter-thick layered tungsten-carbide plates and inspected hourly for structural fracturing.
To prevent active containment breaches, a mandatory Livestock Provision Protocol must be executed daily. Exactly one (1) live animal (typically adult bovine) or designated Class-D personnel are to be remotely introduced into the containment vaults via automated drop-chutes every twenty-four (24) hours (one subject per instance).
Personnel are permitted to enter the vaults for structural repairs *only* during an active Docile State. Any personnel entering the cell must remain entirely non-hostile. If an instance is touched or attacked during this window, the Docile State terminates instantly. Any personnel who make direct physical contact with an active instance outside of authorized parameters are to be considered immediate vectors of infection; automated security turrets are authorized to deploy immediate lethal kinetic force against compromised individuals.
Description:
SCP-9521 is an anomalous, microscopic parasitic organism (designated SCP-9521-A) capable of gestating inside any form of organic, perishable food supply. The primary anomaly manifests when a human or animal ingests contaminated food, triggering a rapid, catastrophic physiological transformation over a 12-hour period.
Upon ingestion, SCP-9521-A overrides the host's central nervous system, erasing cognitive thought and motor control. The host's body rapidly sheds all hair, and the muscular and skeletal structures violently elongate, transforming the subject into an emaciated, hairless humanoid standing between 2.4 and 2.8 meters tall. The limbs break and reform into irregular, multi-jointed angles, granting the creature anomalous physical leverage.
SCP-9521 possesses a secondary transmission vector via direct epidermal contact. The moment a mature instance makes physical contact with the skin of a non-infected human, a rapid biological cascade is triggered. The new victim will immediately lose cognitive control and begin the physical mutation cycle, with the skeletal restructuring concluding within a drastically reduced window of approximately fifteen (15) minutes.
Figure 2: Surveillance picture of SCP-9521-1 in an active Docile State.
Behavior and Docility:
When not fed, SCP-9521 instances are hyper-aggressive, spending the majority of the day continuously striking the containment doors in an attempt to breach the facility.
Upon the introduction of a live subject, the instance will immediately incapacitate and completely consume it. Under normal circumstances, a successful feeding event induces a temporary "Docile State" lasting between three (3) to five (5) hours, during which the entity remains stationary and passive.
CRITICAL UPDATE — KETER-VECTOR: Recent behavioral analysis has confirmed that the Docile State is entirely unstable and highly unpredictable. In approximately 15% of recorded feeding events, the parasite's neural signals fail to stabilize. In these instances, the entity will violently reject the docile phase without warning, remaining hyper-aggressive or entering a spontaneous state of frenzy immediately after consumption. Because there are no visual or acoustic indicators to determine whether an instance has successfully entered a docile phase, all personnel entries into the vaults for maintenance have been permanently suspended. The entities are to be treated as actively hostile at all times, regardless of feeding status.
Addendum 9521.1: Discovery Log
Initial Manifestation:
On March 14, 2001, local emergency dispatch in [REDACTED] received a distress call from a civilian identified as Arthur Pendelton. Pendelton reported acute, sudden abdominal agony followed by severe, involuntary muscle contractions. During the recorded call, Pendelton explicitly stated that he felt "as though his limbs were being violently twisted and snapped backward" by an internal force.
Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene fourteen (14) minutes into the call. Upon breaching the residence, responders witnessed Pendelton in the advanced stages of physical mutation; his body had shed all epidermal hair, and his limbs were actively fracturing and re-knitting into elongated, multi-jointed angles. Pendelton instantly demonstrated hyper-predatory aggression, inflicting touch-based vectors onto two responding paramedics, who began mutating within fifteen (15) minutes.
Foundation Intervention:
The SCP Foundation immediately intercepted the local emergency reports after automated sensors flagged a localized spike in anomalous kinetic activity and biochemical signatures in the sector. Mobile Task Force (MTF) Beta-7 was deployed to secure the neighborhood.
Upon arrival, the mutated subjects had breached the residence and were attempting to bypass local civilian blockades. MTF Beta-7 utilized heavy-duty tranquilizing agents and automated non-lethal containment netting to suppress the entities. Arthur Pendelton (designated SCP-9521-1) and the two compromised paramedics (designated SCP-9521-2 and -3) were successfully secured and transported to Sector-9. The entire residential zone was placed under quarantine, Class-A amnestics were deployed to the local hospital staff and dispatchers, and a cover story detailing a localized outbreak of an aggressive, toxic chemical spill was disseminated to the media.
Incident Report 9521-A-3
Date of Occurrence: June 18, 2004
Location: Subterranean Containment Sector-9, Vault 1
Involved Personnel: D-4402, On-Duty Security Detail
Foreword: The following incident log documents the first recorded containment failure of SCP-9521-1 due to an intentional delay in the mandatory daily Livestock Provision Protocol.
Incident Timeline:
- 08:00: The scheduled daily delivery of biological sustenance to Vault 1 is delayed due to an automated mechanical jam in the Sector-9 drop-chute matrix. SCP-9521-1 enters an immediate starvation phase.
- 08:15: SCP-9521-1 ceases its stationary crouch and begins striking the primary tungsten-carbide vault door. Audio sensors register localized structural impacts exceeding 55,000 Newtons. Heavy fracturing is noted along the secondary pressure seals of the door.
- 08:24 [CONTAINMENT BREACH]: The primary tungsten-carbide door suffers total structural failure, being completely torn off its tracks by a kinetic assault from the entity. SCP-9521-1 breaches into the immediate security corridor.
- 08:26: Automated security gates fail to close quickly enough. SCP-9521-1 breaches the checkpoint and corners a cleaning detail. Class-D Personnel D-4402 is seized by the entity.
- 08:27: Security cameras capture SCP-9521-1 violently crushing D-4402's torso before completely and rapidly consuming the subject's entire biological mass.
- 08:29: Following the consumption of D-4402, SCP-9521-1 instantly transitions into its Docile State, dropping its aggressive posture and crouching stationary over the remains of the checkpoint.
Post-Incident Analysis:
Because the entity entered its Docile State immediately after eating D-4402, an MTF recovery unit was able to enter the corridor without triggering an attack. Heavy-duty automated mechanical pincers were used to safely guide SCP-9521-1 back into a temporary holding cell while Vault 1's doors were completely replaced with reinforced 40-centimeter tungsten-carbide plating. The remaining 4 instances in adjacent vaults were fed immediately via manual overrides to prevent a domino breach. Following this event, the drop-chute delivery matrix has been upgraded with a secondary backup power line to ensure a breach via starvation never occurs again.
Incident Report 9521-A-4: Contamination Breach
Date of Occurrence: August 22, 2002
Location: Sector-9 Security Hub and Decontamination Wing
Involved Personnel: SCP-9521-1, D-3819, D-5112, Guard Vance
Foreword: At this point in history, only three instances of the anomaly were in containment (SCP-9521-1, -2, and -3). This report logs the breach that resulted in the immediate infection of two additional human subjects, bringing the total number of contained instances to five (5).
Incident Timeline:
- 14:22: During a routine cell vault structural scan, an electrical short locks the automated feeding chute of Vault 1 in an open position. SCP-9521-1 utilizes its multi-jointed limbs to scale the vertical shaft, entirely bypassing the primary tungsten-carbide door, and enters the upper maintenance rafters.
- 14:35 [CONTAINMENT BREACH]: SCP-9521-1 drops from the ceiling into the Sector-9 residential corridor, immediately intercepting a passing Class-D transit detail.
- 14:36: Guard Vance deploys standard kinetic suppression fire, but the rounds pass through the entity's non-vital elongated torso without slowing its advance. SCP-9521-1 makes direct epidermal contact with Class-D Personnel D-3819, grabbing him by the shoulder.
- 14:37: In accordance with the Zero-Contact Protocol, Guard Vance immediately attempts to seal the corridor blast doors to isolate the vector. However, the newly compromised D-3819 enters an immediate accelerated mutation cycle. Within 45 seconds, D-3819 loses cognitive function and violently lunges forward, breaking through the closing door gap.
- 14:42: The fully mutated D-3819 (now designated SCP-9521-4) pursues fleeing personnel into the adjacent decontamination block. SCP-9521-4 corners Class-D Personnel D-5112, making physical contact with her forearm.
- 14:57: Surveillance feeds monitor D-5112 undergoing total skeletal and epidermal restructuring over a 15-minute window, successfully mutating into the fifth instance (designated SCP-9521-5).
Breach Resolution:
With five active, highly aggressive instances operating inside the decontamination wing, Sector-9 Command ordered the immediate flooding of the wing with automated neuro-paralytic gas agents. While the gas failed to harm the entities, it severely lowered their core temperatures, forcing all 5 instances into a temporary state of suspended animation.
Heavy-duty tactical recovery units utilizing mechanized, automated capture rigs successfully isolated all five humanoids and transferred them into the current, deeply buried individual subterranean vaults. Following this massive failure, the vertical feeding chutes were completely retrofitted with automated internal laser-grid blockades to ensure an entity can never climb upward again.
Incident Report 9521-A-5: Post-Feeding Attack
Date of Occurrence: November 14, 2005
Location: Subterranean Containment Sector-9, Vault 4
Involved Personnel: SCP-9521-4, Maintenance Tech Johnson, Security Control
Foreword: This incident directly resulted in the permanent suspension of all human entry into SCP-9521 vaults. Prior to this event, personnel were permitted to enter cells during the 3-hour post-feeding window to clear away chemical residue and inspect wall seals.
Incident Timeline:
- 10:00: SCP-9521-4 is successfully fed one (1) live adult bovine. Security monitors confirm the entity has finished consumption and entered its standard crouched, stationary posture. The automated system flags the cell as a verified "Docile State."
- 10:15: Maintenance Tech Johnson enters Vault 4 equipped with automated pressure-washing gear to clean the cell floor. In accordance with safety protocol, Johnson remains entirely non-hostile, keeping a 4-meter distance from the crouched entity.
- 10:22: For seven minutes, SCP-9521-4 remains completely still.
- 10:23 [SUIT ATTACK]: Without any biometric warning, acoustic vocalization, or twitching, SCP-9521-4 instantly lunges across the cell. The entity utilizes its elongated multi-jointed limbs to pin Johnson against the concrete wall.
- 10:24: Security control attempts to activate the automated high-voltage turrets, but the entity utilizes Johnson's body as a physical shield, blocking the line of sight.
- 10:25: SCP-9521-4 inflicts a touch-based vector directly onto Johnson's neck.
- 10:26: Automated heavy iron gates are remotely slammed shut to lock down Vault 4. Through the reinforced observation glass, security personnel witness Tech Johnson enter an accelerated 15-minute mutation cycle, while SCP-9521-4 returns to a calm, crouched position right next to him. A few minutes later, SCP-9521-6 is terminated via the high voltage turrets. Only recently mutated SCP-9521's can be killed.
Post-Incident Analysis:
This tragic event proved that the "Docile State" is a biological illusion; the parasite's predatory neural override can spontaneously reactivate at any fraction of a second, regardless of how recently it has eaten. Following this incident, Directive 9521-Sigma was signed into law by the Site Director: All manual cell maintenance is permanently terminated. Vaults are now completely sealed, and any structural upkeep must be performed via remote-controlled automated drones.
Incident Report 9521-A-6: Drone Intelligence Adaptation
Date of Occurrence: May 14, 2012
Location: Subterranean Containment Sector-9, Vaults 1 through 5
Involved Personnel: Remote Drone Operators, Site-19 Surveillance Command
Foreword: This incident log documents the total loss of visual surveillance inside all SCP-9521 containment vaults due to unexpected cognitive adaptation by the entities.
Incident Timeline:
- 11:00: Automated maintenance drone unit M-01 is deployed via secondary ceiling hatches into Vault 1 to clear skeletal debris left behind from a previous feeding cycle.
- 11:12: Instead of ignoring the drone as it had during previous years, SCP-9521-1 is seen on surveillance tracks staring directly at the unit. The entity demonstrates tracking behavior, following the mechanical arm's movements.
- 11:15 [COGNITIVE BREAKTHROUGH]: The entity emits a sharp, localized clicking sound. It lunges forward, seizing drone M-01 with its elongated limbs and ripping the titanium chassis in half. Audio sensors pick up the entity bringing the broken optical lens to its face, staring into the camera.
- 11:19: Simultaneous feed failures register across Vaults 2, 3, 4, and 5. Coordination tracking suggests the parasite's neural network shared this breakthrough across all five separate cells.
- 11:22: All 5 instances begin systematically climbing the structural walls, utilizing their multi-jointed leverage to reach the reinforced surveillance camera housings mounted 6 meters up on the ceilings. Every primary and backup camera lens is ripped down and crushed.
- 11:45: Remote sensors record the entities utilizing the heavy metal scraps from the broken drones to smash against the concrete wall panels, fracturing the structural seals of the chambers.
Post-Incident Analysis:
As of this event, the internal chambers of all five vaults are entirely unmonitored. Because human entries are permanently suspended under Directive 9521-Sigma, the Foundation has no way to replace the shattered cameras or fix the interior structural damage.
Vaults 1 through 5 are confirmed to be completely worn down, cracked, and structurally compromised from the inside, held together solely by the exterior 40-centimeter thick tungsten-carbide reinforcement brackets. The Foundation is now completely blind; security staff must rely exclusively on exterior door vibration sensors and acoustic microphones to confirm the entities are still inside. The budget for Sector-9 has been increased by 40% to account for continuous drone replacements, though any unit sent inside is now destroyed within 90 seconds of deployment.
Addendum 9521.3: Sentinel Trapping Protocol (2017 Log)
The Hand-Feeding Emergency (2012-2014):
Following the total destruction of all internal surveillance and automated delivery chutes during the 2012 drone crisis, Sector-9 was forced to transition to a high-risk "Hand-Feeding" protocol. Livestock was introduced manually through heavily reinforced, specialized slide-gates built directly into the outer vault doors.
Between 2012 and 2014, three (3) terminal casualties occurred among feeding staff when SCP-9521 instances managed to wedge their multi-jointed limbs through the feeding slots before they could be sealed. Because the interior cells are completely structurally ruined and unmonitored, the entities effectively possess the capability to breach the main vault doors at any chosen moment.
The Shock Receptor & Sentinel Grid (2015-2017 Implementation):
To establish a reliable secondary line of defense without entering the cells, Project Engineering developed the Sentinel Shock Trap Network, fully operational as of 2017.
Foundation biologists discovered that despite their physical invulnerability, the parasite's hijacked nervous system responds violently to specific ultra-high-frequency electrical currents. The security corridor immediately outside Vaults 1 through 5 has been completely lined with recessed, high-voltage floor grids and localized biometric pressure sensors.
- The Trigger: The exact millisecond an SCP-9521 instance completely breaks through its vault door and steps into the security corridor, the floor sensors detect the weight displacement.
- The Neuro-Shock: The floor grid instantly discharges a localized 100,000-volt current directly into the instance's foot pads. This current targets the parasite's internal "shock receptors," overloading its neural network and causing immediate, temporary motor-function paralysis.
- The Automated Trap: Simultaneously, the facility's localized defense matrix triggers an absolute lockup. Massive, 50-centimeter-thick tungsten drop-gates slam down from the corridor ceiling directly in front of and behind the shocked entity, sealing it inside a localized, armored isolation pod.
- The Retrieval Phase: While the entity is pinned and paralyzed by the continuous shock cycle inside the pod, heavily armed recovery units utilizing automated magnetic crane rigs are deployed to mechanically haul the creature back into its vault. The damaged outer door is then completely replaced via automated welding systems.
Current Status: Since the deployment of the Sentinel Grid in 2017, four (4) spontaneous breakout attempts have been successfully intercepted and suppressed without a single facility casualty. While the entities remain completely un-killable and unpredictable inside their dark, ruined vaults, the Foundation has successfully turned the security corridor into a flawless, automated defensive chokepoint.
Cross-Testing Log 9521/999-Alpha
Objective: To observe the behavioral reaction of a mature SCP-9521 instance when exposed to the euphoric and pacifying properties of SCP-999.
Test Parameters: SCP-999 was permitted to enter the security corridor outside Vault 1. A localized automated barrier was lowered to prevent the entity from escaping, and the vault door was opened by remote control. SCP-9521-1 was in an active, starved hyper-aggressive state prior to the test.
Incident Timeline:
- 13:00: Vault 1 door is opened. SCP-9521-1 instantly rushes into the corridor, emitting loud, chitinous clicking sounds. Upon seeing SCP-999, it prepares to lunge and inflict a touch-based vector.
- 13:02: SCP-999 demonstrates no fear, slithering directly toward the instance while emitting a high-pitched gurgling sound. SCP-9521-1 hesitates, its irregular multi-jointed limbs freezing mid-motion as SCP-999 bumps against its leg.
- 13:05: SCP-999 begins secreting its standard orange euphoric substance, crawling onto SCP-9521-1’s emaciated, hairless torso.
- 13:08 [NEURAL BREAKTHROUGH]: As the slime absorbs into the instance's skin, SCP-9521-1's aggressive clicking sounds cease completely. The entity drops its predatory posture and slumps against the corridor wall. For the first time in recorded history, the instance's distorted vocalizations change from screams to a low, quiet humming sound.
- 13:15: SCP-9521-1 utilizes its elongated fingers to gently nudge SCP-999, mimicking a stroking or petting motion. Biometric sensors placed near the floor indicate the parasite's aggressive neural override has been temporarily suppressed by SCP-999's biochemistry, allowing a small remnant of Arthur Pendelton’s original human consciousness to briefly surface.
- 13:40: SCP-999 remains attached to the entity for 40 minutes. When SCP-999 is gently recalled from the room via remote audio cue, SCP-9521-1 does not pursue it. It walks calmly back into Vault 1 and returns to its crouched posture.
Researcher Note: *This is the most astonishing behavioral data we have ever gathered on the Tumble Parasite. SCP-999's euphoric slime didn't just calm the beast—it temporarily severed the parasite's mental hijacking entirely. For a brief moment, Arthur Pendelton was back. While the effects faded after an hour, this proves the host's original human mind isn't completely destroyed; it's just buried under an avalanche of parasitic neural white noise. Further testing is strictly authorized to see if repeated exposure can permanently weaken the parasite's hold.*
